Ace Combat

With the fair success of Ace Combat 7, what are your thoughts about the whole series?
I haven't played it myself
'cuz i'm poor
but i have played every single other Ace Combat, even the Nokia ports and that shitty Ace Combat for Iphone that somehow made it into the canon.
I also wonder, have you guys tried the patch for the japanese release of Electrosphere?

the american version of 3 is the worst mainline AC game imo
the japanese version is probably the second worst (although it manages to make it into "decent game" territory)
the plot is a 2deep4u ghost in the shell and evangelion mashup

Gameplay:
0 > 7 > 5 > 4 > 2 > 3 > 1

Story:
3 > 4 > 0 > 5 > 7

Although, I still did enjoy 7's story even if it was messy. I haven't played 6 yet and am currently playing X. The fan translation of 3 is a must play. It's very unique.

So, was 7 good or not?
I've heard nothing but mixed things about it.

What was the AC7 Steam update about?

being an Ace Combat game it did very very good, it's one of the best selling too
Ace Combat 7 it's going to pave a whole new road to Project Aces (hopefully)

glitches in some missions and minor bugs fixed

literally everyone loves it besides a few pctards and ign

easily goty so far.

It was pretty mediocre; one of the worst games in the series.
People pretend it's a good game out of fear of losing the series again.

Most negative reviews basically boil down to this.

I switched the Mig Guns only and now I'm actually having fun in multiplayer

Pretty good desu, story is a even worse than usual but gameplay wise it's the best AC game

it's terrific

I wish the TLS was actually that good.

Fuck off the stories are great in Ace Combat

>spent the entire match chasing down one guy with the machine gun
>he ends up crashing into a mountain
Fun night, gonna hop off now.

It's great. One of the strongest games in the series and a great return to form. Only people who hate it are hotasfags and people trying to stir shit up. Belkans, probably.

Do you think that the HOTAS debacle will keep future AC installments from being released on PC?
I own a PS4 but I'll rather have all of my games on PC, but the consensus on the Steam forums (and a good chunk of Yea Forums) is pretty much: "don't bother porting those games anymore".

Attached: 1512503309392.png (281x286, 136K)

Not if it sold well. Those faggot spergs bitching about trivial shit doesn't matter if the money's good.

What's online like? How much harder is it to dodge a missile than in SP?

Mechanically, not much harder. In practice, more difficult since they're real people who know when to shoot their missiles at the most effective time and angle.

Porting with UE4 is cheap and easy to do though, they'll only stop porting it if they didn't make a profit on it, which I'm sure they did

>the consensus on the Steam forums (and a good chunk of Yea Forums)
Not a consensus, just a vocal minority. Steam reviews after the reddit review bomb (and it was reddit that organized the bomb) have all been positive, and it's literally just a couple of autists on Yea Forums that keep whining about not being about to use their $300 flight sim peripherals for an arcade game

QAAMs and EMLs might make you ragequit but you can just avoid special weapon lobbies for that.

>it was reddit that organized the bomb
Really? Figures.

Except you're wrong

yep

>what they aren't happy with the two (2) HOTAS controllers we allowed on the PC?
>may as well drop the platform altogether ungrateful bastards
I'm pretty sure they don't care as long as sales are good but might continue the same bullshit.

Online is a lot of fun, as long as you stay out of Unlimited, SP: On rooms

Reddit is willing to eat all kinds of shit in games, but no flight stick in AC is too much for them?

why

I was mad. Mostly because they had to deliberately restrict HOTAS sticks in order to do that.

Attached: pc-hotas-compatibility.jpg (908x485, 106K)

it's great, it's everything i expected
strangereal + cheesy as fuck storyline + great ost
my only complaints are could have had more planes and some levels aren't very fun

pretty meh compared to the trinity

When was the last time you played the Trinity? AC4 has not aged well at all, that game is 90% ground pound score attack missions. Not necessarily bad since it's an arcade game, but keep in mind Electrosphere came before it. Half of 5 are garbage missions too but the story makes up for it. Personally I think Cross Rumble (AC2 remake) should replace 4.

They appear to be the same exact thing?

Where the FUCK are my Shintani skins Bamco, come on it's not like they would reject you. These better at least be DLC later (but for non-Jewish prices).

right before I played 7
0 is still the best game by leaps and bounds

Are you ready for chink planes to finally make their debut?

Attached: D1bnkyAV4AEMMHs.jpg:large.jpg (2048x2048, 229K)

It's better than 5

Yeah 0 is my favorite. Different routes (watered down but still), different squads of aces you could fight (squads, not just one guy), the Round Table, the music, the story. It's great. Why did TA get rid of squad commands? Rushed development? It can't be that hard to tell your wingman AI to attack a target.

>Rushed development?
You haven't been reading Kono's tweets have you

No, but it's better than 0 and 4.

4 maybe, but 0 is still the best in the series

>tfw 04 was my favorite of the trinity and now 7's my favorite in the series because it's closer to 04 than 5 or 0.
I get it. Why you all don't like it. But that's why I love it.

Attached: 1542879670177.jpg (593x610, 91K)

I know, Bamco was about to kill the series until Infinity made enough money off of microtransactions, and they basically had a year. I hope Bambo gives them more of a leash next time. I don't like how they seem to have treated TA.

So, how come Grunder Industries wasn't dissolved after they worked with people that kidnapped the president, orchestrated the war that killed tens and hundreds of thousands, and then tried to nuke major cities and colony drop Oured when busted?

CHINESE PLANES BITCHES
mobile.twitter.com/kazutoki/status/1105325386722828288

Just got a 246 MB update for it on steam, anyone know what it is?

I'm vaguely planning on getting 7 when it goes on sale
is it true that all the locations in the game have ridiculously similar names that make the plot impossible to follow?

Not true. But regardless you aren't playing this for the plot anyway. You're in for great gameplay and pure kino moments

There's no point in using TLS when EML exists. (atleast in MP.) With TLS you have to stop and aim carefully for a couple seconds while predicting where your enemy will maneuver to, and in half that time you could have already gotten a kill and moved on with EML.

Fun weapon but its pointless.

Where else is Osea going to buy planes on the cheap?

Same reason why Blackwater or Monsanto wasn't dissolved, or why BAE is fueling the fire between the Saudis and Yemen, or why HSBC is still laundering money for Mexican cartels, or why BP is still in business after nearly ruining our coastal economies.
If the company can still make people money, who cares?
They could've just found some scapegoats and said they don't represent the interests of the company, wash the blood of their hands and keep making cheap weapons for everyone.

soon

Attached: 1538515029154.png (800x1131, 227K)

funny that you mention that since they seem to build weapons for everyone except for osea

The nice with about the TLS is that it lets you double up on damage by activating it and switching to missiles/gun if you need to continually hit something like a Carrier or the Arsenal Birds. There just aren't enough targets that warrant such a thing.

Namco refusing to fix "minor problems" a month and a half from launch?

I think the ammount of content these games have dies not justify full AAA release pricetag. AC7 is grest but feels like it was made by small indie studio with no resources for more game modes

>remember the story having some loose ends
>play through the story again to hunt the aces
>realize that most of the "loose ends" are actually perfectly understandable when you finish the story
The biggest "offenders" were mission 4 with the space elevator being shot at which makes no sense in the context of the mission, but makes sense when you consider the end of the game, and Fullband being killed, which is never brought back, but actually makes perfect sense.

I can't remember if there's anything else which gets kinda swept under the rug, yet actually makes perfect sense.

Leaving aside "how would missiles bring down space elevator" and "falling space elevator would cause a lot of damage", why did IUN try to keep it secret, if it was just to turn off factories/Arsenal Birds?

Looking forward to dropping Chinese jets with F-22s and Slavshit.

The absolute fucking madman.

I like the represantation of different irl fighter planes from different countries in AC7.Though I never really got why they use planes like MiGs and GD planes
I want a WW2 Ace Combat spinoff where your main chara uses a push configuration prop plane and they utilise their own designs instead of using irl aircrafts
they would also have their own beta jet fighters in the end

>push props
got you phamalam.

Nice

targetting was also changed
it prioritizes enemies closer to where you're aiming rather than however the fuck it was before

It's okay, runs middle of the pack for me for various reasons.
Definitely worth a play through, it's easily as good as 5, better than 6. Not QUITE as good as 4 though

Yuktobonia emblem when?

>Targeting unfucked
That's a literal gamechanger. Time to give it another run after I'm done with DMC5.

I just beat Ace Combat 5. Have to say I enjoyed 4 more. Hear 0 is many's favorite so moving on to that soon.
But what exactly was Belka thinking with their crazy plan?

Cripple Osea to reclaim lost land

Bait both sides into declaring war, and keeping the war going by nudging both sides when necessary.

Surely there must have been a simpler way.

no HOTAS no buy

To get vengeance and reclaim lost territory?

Belka was severely crippled after its war and Osea had become a superpower. The best way to damage them was go plunge them into a massive war with another superpower. The war would've been neverending if both parties didn't realize Belka was involved.

Hot ass?

get revenge for the five great lakes agreement

I GUATANTEE TO YOU THAT THE NEXT GAME WILL BE A REMAKE OF 3 1000%

I can understand people withholding their money for pretty much any reason, including this one. What I don't understand is why people feel the need to declare their reasoning to people who have no power to change anything. Unless, of course, that goal is to be annoying.

>no HOTAS no buy
Why would you play this with hotas? Sim game like DCS I can understand, but this is not it.

There won't be a remake of 3. Never ever. There is no point and if anything there might be a game telling about what actually happened during the corp.war.

>someone stalls trying to out-turn me
>hit them in the face with three machine guns

Attached: smiling loli.png (602x614, 366K)

It's very good, almost everything an AC fan could have wanted. I do have some complaints.
>terrible plane unlock system
>story as bad as AC6
>nothing new and memorable about AC7, you'll do a valley run, underground tunnel run, destroy the bombers attacking your base in the first mission, escort some plane, destroy targets to rack up points, defeat a giant flying plane, everything you've done before in AC games

Anyone else think this guy looks like Ryan Renalds?

>i'm glad this game is doing well
>muh HOTAS tho
>he says this after Kono's sobstory about the development hell that is AC7
Fuck them, and fuck their glorified sex toy.

>kono was approached by the chinks in hopes of getting the J20 in

>no guns
>also trailed smoke during a demonstration once

I really like the last mission of 5 when all the various troops come in to help you out.

MiG-35 when?

Attached: MiG-35 712.jpg (1351x901, 80K)

Last mission of 5 is you going to shoot down the SOLG.

Oh right. Thought that was all one big mission for some reason.

In one of Mihaly's briefings it's mentioned he's back late due to a stubborn foe and you see a F-16 killed.

Could it be?

It could be either Golem 1 or Mage 1. Either way, they're dead and irrelevant once you're in the 444

SOLITARY!

One is Bamco approved and the other isn't. HOTAS faggots have a point while still missing the point.

It's an Ace Combat game so it's automatically good unless they fuck it up. They didn't fuck it up but they didn't make the best game in the series so by Yea Forums standards it's shit. Most people seem to agree that it landed somewhere in the middle of the holy trinity.

What's the fucking point?

>restricting certain controllers from being used to play
But that's the opposite of how these things go. It takes time and effort to make peripherals work, and every new peripheral's special snowflake drivers take them more time and more effort to get working. It's practically a miracle that anything other than KBM or xinput works.

Yuktobania pride, worldwide.

I'm trying to play 3 right now in Jap. Gameplay wise I'm surprisingly disappointed with how simple it is and wonder how much the rest of the series is like it.

I mean, you have no countermeasures, like flares, and the controls are super fiddly, with the analog feeling like a super awkward extension of the digital controls rather than operating smoothly as you'd expect a flight sim would. Things like landing and refiling are handled by what are basically cutscenes as well, and you can't even load out your plane with multiple missile types and select which ones to fire.

I've totally given up trying to follow the plot at this point and only really care about Rena, though I accidentally 'switched sides' in a way I didn't intend because of how you end of making choices mid mission without understanding what the hell I was supposed to be doing.

>poorfag
Dude I am a fan that played 4, 5, 0 and 7. Pirated all of them when current

The gameplay in the later games isn't much more complex (though you do have choice of special weapons and planes), but it is much smoother and more satisfying.

The game is great. I don't regret lying to my wife about buying it. Told her it was the demo.

Which planes got you through the campaign?

Attached: Ace Combat 7 aircraft.jpg (2240x2032, 3.81M)

Su-57 with PLSL. Damn thing melts through enemies ez.

Attached: pak-fa.jpg (1920x1080, 345K)

Just have a system to map axises to certain controls and literally every HOTAS would work. Do you really think game manufacturers program a driver for every peripheral on the market? There's generic HOTAS controls every one can follow.

Also the fact that two controllers with the exact same layout made by the exact same company and only one is compatible (HOTAS X and HOTAS 4) shows that instead of putting in "map axis 1 -> throttle" (generic) they're putting in something like "map 'Thrustmaster HOTAS 4 throttle axis' -> throttle". They're being overly proprietary to the point of creating more work for themselves while also restricting which controllers can be used down to two.

As someone who has played Ace combat since the fourth game I can say it was everything I could have hoped for after such a long hiatus

I thought it was the osean military who tried to destroy the tower?

AC3 with the upgraded graphics & gameplay when?

It shouldn' be that costly by now, right?
They can reuse the development environment of the latest game, the artwork and soundtrack are good enough to put in the game untouched.
The cutscenes need to be redrawn to adapt to 2K resolution though.

Attached: ace_combat_3_electrosphere_theatrical_wallpaper_by_dragonspikexiii-d8zku6i.png (1024x768, 770K)

AC7 could very easily have been the best in the series. The faults it does have generally are poor and baffling design decisions, like the plane unlock mechanic. It's really weird to see a game get so close to perfection yet make such obvious bad decisions.

Between these two, Brownie is best waif. Love at first sight.

Osean military is the biggest presence in the IUN.

It's literally made for drooling idiots.

>what are your thoughts about the whole series?

It's an arcade game for children
