Selling out to esports killed the FGC. In complete seriousness, not being able to say 'nigger' and other profanity took all the hype out of the scene. When the whole esports thing was first starting you'd see 'after hours' streams where everything goes and it was pretty great; but even those faded out as any 'pro' player needed to maintain a family friendly appearance at all times.

Yipes did a MvC2 tournament recently that was just a bunch of the old guard at a house party and the commentary was completely uncensored and it was great.

2011 was peak Yea Forums and peak fighting games.

Not OP but I work 56-66 hours per week (36 hours at one job, three 12 hour shifts, and two or three 10-hour shifts at my other job) - I still have Sundays off and occasional Saturdays depending. I still manage to get in a couple hours a night during the week (I work 7a-7p)
That said, when I was living elsewhere and only working 37.5 hours per week, I felt like I had less time due to an hour long commute each way (now I'm a 12 minute walk from work), and wasting a lot of time with girls/girlfriends/coworkers-after-work. Also my last job requires bringing work home etc.

@OP stop wasting time on bitches, sell your house and get an apartment (no time wasted mowing lawns replacing water heaters sump pumps furnaces shoveling snow any maintenance at all), lose all hobbies except gayman, and then you'll have time. I don't prioritize games on the weekend because I have better shit to do.

Yo I'm 32 and desu farce 4 is one of the best games I played this year. I only tried it to see if this xbox 360 controller I was working on for my nephew was fixed, played like the first 2 hours instead of a 15 minute joystick test. Can't believe a game that looks this good is running on a console from 2005 with 512mb of ram lol. So half of it was the novelty of that. So then I got it on PC and played it at 1440p/144fps and damn shit is hot. Not as complex as other better shooters and the story and characters other than Min are gay as fuck, but the map itself is amazing. Wish they made a better game there but I'd go as far to say that the map is better than "97/100" breath of the wild. Shangri-la was dope too.

I never cared about story in vidya and nothing new comes out in a mechanical sense so I just stick to my old boomer games. Every few months my friends get together and we have a LAN party which is always comfy. WC3, DOTA2, Fightcade games, PPT, Monster Hunter, Rocket League etc keep me busy enough when I have free time and there is enough variety that I no longer care about what the industry is doing. I figure if something actually interesting comes out I'll hear of it via word of mouth/4c/whatever anyway.

At least USFIV was fun and worked, SFV has so many issues and glitches to this day.

I always loved tuning in on Sundays to watch an episode of USFIV. They always (99% of the time) had an entertaining guest on, and watching Gootecks and Mike Ross generate a mine's worth of salt was great. The gameplay was so much more complex and the high skill ceiling meant that a lot of really good guests came on and just styled on people and it was a good watch

Fast forward to SFV and the game was ass. It's pretty clear they both didn't enjoy the game and I pretty much stopped watching after that since they obviously didn't give a shit and the quality went downhill super fast

People will say that SFV killed everything but honestly shit had already gone bad towards the end of SF4's lifespan. I can't remember which SCR it was, but there was one around the time of AE2012 or USF4 where it was all horrible esports transition effects when switching camera and cringeworthy player interviews between matches conducted by some person I had never seen before who was very obviously not a fighting game player. Even earlier than that there was shit like getting that Slasher dude to commentate stuff. EVO pretty much lost all semblance of decency as soon as SF4 became the big game - remember Sessler commentating SF4 at EVO in like 2010? Shit was fucked. It's so depressing

Man Dota 2 has fallen so far down. Rven though I stopped playing, I could always count on the competitive scene to bring some good games. The casting scene is sterile, the games don't feel like they're worth anything now than just DPC, the pro players are all hype and dick sucking each other, the patches have been unfun to play, new patches are no longer the same with the bi monthly releases, new hero concepts are ripped straight from competition or something eerily close to it. It is just all so tiring.

Funny enough CSGO is mote entertaining to watch these days evem though I don't play it anymore than Dota.

I simply don't play much during the week because I my work is kind of nda far from home so whenever I get out I either go to the gym or go to my Japanese classes. I only play a few mobile games and watch net flix or use spotfi during my commute.

I also lay their episodes on background while I work. Every single of their episodes prior to sf5 is fucking gold. Gootecks playing third strike with max is also alright.

If things were worsening with USFIV, SFV came in and finished it off. You're kind of right, though, as I noticed it as well. As soon as the money started getting big, anyone with a knowledge of human nature, knew how it would go. I remember all these fgc e-celebs getting hype because tourneys were getting big. It was just before SFV came out. People were dreaming about filling up sports stadiums and jerking off about being treated like NFL players with million dollar sponsorships. It became SOLELY about money and self-aggrandizement.

What the fuck did you think would happen? LOL. The top dog got greedy and the "pros" became lying scumbag shills. It seems everyone forgot that these people really are. The variety of FGC asshole varies between socially awkward or obnoxiously delusional. Always has. People complaining that it's going downwards should be celebrating. SFV ad MVCi's failures actually saved the FGC. 'Cause you can bet your ass that if the game was actually good, none of the shills would've been exposed.

I qui fighting games around the time SFV and MVCI launched, now i put all of my gaming energy into playing MTG (Arena and Paper). Easily the best gaming decision I've ever made.

Not so much because of work but because of my newfound social life and girlfriend. Not that I hate that part, but damn I miss sinking time into vidya.

The most vidya I've played in over a year was the few days I plowed through Kingdom Hearts 3 and when I finally got around to playing Undertale and Deltarune a few weeks ago. I've been unable to progress on chapter 3 of DMC5 for days.

Ironically, I think they did with SF4 what they'd wanted to do with SF5, and vice-versa.
SF4 was hailed as "back to basics" "everyone from SF2 is there" kind of like throwback SF game that everybody knew and could play easily. Yet the game was incredibly challenging, with strict execution and requiring a lot of match-up knowledge. Watching SF4 was fun, because you'd see stuff where you'd think "Oh god, this looks so hard to do, I'll try that in Training Mode".
SF5, on the other hand, was hailed as "e-sports all the way baby" but also wanted to be more accessible, which resulted in streamlined gameplay making characters way easier to play (with a few exceptions that came later).

I'd just want SF6 to be somewhere in between SF4 and 5 in terms of "difficulty". Let's not make the game rely on you plinking and double-tapping every single button (Abel's bnb relying on a 1f link was pretty ridiculous), but make it so you at least can learn something when you see a top player playing your character.

Not him, but it's the model for every trading card game, and for a good reason. It took a risk with lands, and this sometimes makes your life miserable, but the upside is that there are no other mainstream TCG with as much depth.
I'd say Arena has its faults but is a really good way to discover what's the game like, and is perfectly playable for a f2p, as long as you grind with the starters Merfolk, mostly deck for a bit and aim for a deck. Right now, the meta is really good, with every archetype having a playable deck.

The only think i never liked about mtg is land card rng. Otherwise it's fun to play irl. Hearthstone fixed land card rng but dumbed it down too much.

Personally i play with house rule where you have a land side deck that you draw from in addition. Since it's irl with friends there is no need to stay fixed to their rules.

It can be. I find more joy in making and modding sticks rather than using them. I play some 3s or vsav, but not as much as I used to. My interest is in cars and taking care of the ones i love really. I've been building a collection of games for my future children to enjoy. That is, if they choose to play games.

A decent mix of bread and butters and 1f links that can't be linked with decent footsie would basically solved the problem.

24 here, with the privilege of home office. If i wanted, i could stay the sholw week working at home (software engineer), finish my shit and play all day. However, even after finishing all my responsibilities, if i play for more that 4 hours straight, the guilt starts to appear. It's weird.

Every large patch makes the game significantly worse. To be honest I tried to pick it up multiple times after I stopped for a long time time after 7.00 but I was never able to keep it up longer than a month. The direction the game is going is just questionable.
