In my opinion DMC3 was lightning in a bottle with regards to the setting, everything kinda felt solemn and somber which accentuated Dante's wackiness even more. Nothing really feels like that in 5, and while this is the most fun Dante has ever been I don't like that I can only play as him for half the game. I feel like adding a 3rd non optional character was a mistake

Dante is just too deep of a character to play as and has too much personality. Dante and Vergil just hunting demons without the whole world at stake would still make for fun games. Kinda like the anime but done right.

Devil May Cry without Dante is not Devil May Cry, if Capcom ever makes a Devil May Cry without Dante they should make it as a spin off or something like that

At this point, Dante is done, as far as mechanics and character goes. You can add/detract him, but I think he is more or less complete now, and anything else is just prolonging the inevitable. I would like to see him as a bonus character you unlock in future games.

The reason you're desperate for more is that you want the final closure of them settling down, but it'll never happen. So why is it that some people dislike the story? Is it just that it ruined their headcanon for Vergil or is there a real reason? I felt that it was pretty disjointed and a bit overly convoluted with all the flashbacks, but I love how it expanded Vergil and Nero's characters and it had some really great moments. Overall I prefer 3's story, but I thought this one was great.

I'll always have DMCV to go back to if I want a mechanically complete experience to play with Dante. His existence, however, is probably a nightmare to balance, and I'd rather he be gone in future titles so that we can see more characters with different movesets get added and shown more love. V was a fun addition, and it'd be cool to see his moveset return on a new Summoner/Sorcerer character in 6 to get the same update and expansion love that Nero got for V.

It's so awful for me to go from playing Dante back to Nero or V. I'm like some sort of cocaine addicted fiend with how many times I'll switch weapons and styles to fight a single enemy.

I don't even know what that means, DMC has always been about the characters and that's exactly what this game was. We got to meet first hand the other side of Vergil that he keeps bottled up while seeing him partially accept it in the end and grow up a bit, but Nero also finally felt like a real character. Him getting pissed at Vergil for being a shitty dad despite stopping the two of them from potentially killing each other was great.

Agreed. In terms of gameplay DMC5 Dante is absolutely the apex of the character, any brand new mechanics would just feel like bloat (stuff like SDT is already pushing it). The only thing that could be done with Dante is swapping out the weapons, and at that point you might as well use those on a new character.

That's basically what I was arguing the other day when I first finished the story. It's a pretty succinct wrap to the story, each character getting enough development to progress to the next phase. Nero is finally respected enough for multiple reasons to not be just seen as some kid, Dante and Vergil get their moment of respite that seems as though it might be real for once, and they're all placed for another adventure to begin. Worrying about the minutia of DMC of all things won't get you anywhere, it's literally silly on purpose, and thinking that there's a narrative reason to cut out core mechanics of the series is just weird.

I removed Cavalier and switched back to Sparda and Dante is 10x more fun to play than with their "default" loadout by the endgame. Cavalier has very little use in how I play.

With Dante? You have so many moves to parry them with it's insane. Anything with an active hitbox, Prop, Ice Age, Balrog, Cavaliere in donut. With Nero, hope you have a whip arm. V, you need to do Griffon and Shadows charge moves, or you can bring out Nightmare and do his lariat.

Fair enough, DSD is just too different for me considering I've been using Rebellion for so many years now.

It's also easy S ranks. Drive more than one or two enemies (even just the baseline Drive), and your style just skyrockets.

Then again, everything Dante does gives him more style, while Nero struggles to get his up by comparison. Developer commentary? I think maybe.

You can actually fail S ranks without hitting SSS with Dante, but with Nero any S or SS ranks will get you an S rank for the level. Their meters don't work the same.

Is there a good method for dealing with Urizen's summoned swords in his second phase? I've tried hitting them with every type of gun using Gunslinger, but I can't hit all of them. I basically had to just cheese it with Sin Devil Trigger.

I'm actually fine with the way they handled the whole V = Vergil thing, it's a lot better than V literally just being Vergil pulling a Jester or Gloria. I thought it was interesting when you think about it. Really the only thing that would make 5's story almost perfect for me is to build up the final fight with Vergil more. I like the actual ending itself (which was most people's complaint with the story) but I feel like it happened too fast, with Dante getting to Vergil after like 1 mission and Nero getting there almost immediately. If there were like 2 more missions of them getting to Vergil maybe a Dante and Nero fight I think would be better.

The doppleganger gives him a second of immunity from basic buster grab, you'll grab the DG instead and shatter it, then you can try and grab him if you have the time. But DT buster can grab multiple enemies, so if you DT up and grab him in the final phase, this is what you get.

I actually did it by luck and thats how I beat him on my first playthrough, I gotta admit I cheered out loud and felt a massive rush.

speaking of vergil, when I fought against Vergil the first 2 times, I only had access to normal and easy, and on normal Dante vs Vergil was considerable harder than Nero vs Vergil. I would even say Nero vs Vergil was piss easy by comparison. His DT did so much damage and his buster grapple where you stab him with yamato does huge chunks of damage causes the fight to go by really fast. I was disappointed I couldn't start the game with a harder difficulty because of that.

The final battle's stakes are over your own ideals rather than over the fate of the world or anything actually big, and then when Vergil loses, they have a bit of a family moment and Vergil tells Dante to leave so he won't be trapped and Dante is sad that he couldn't save his brother.

Nero has one sword (easy to learn, difficult to master with extremely tight MAX-Act windows) and like a dozen different arms that you blow through as ammunition, Dante has several different melee weapons and guns that he carries at once which are augmented by four different fighting styles, V has summoned familiars. There's nothing really like DmC's alightments and color-coded enemies.

Do groups of enemies generally take like 2-3+ minutes to kill on DMD or am i just shit? this feels like a massive slog and im only on mission 7

Are you forgetting the scenes of civilians getting slaughtered and the fact that the military can't even contain what's going on? What do you think would happen if Dante and Nero either just fucked off or died/lost to Vergil? I kind of doubt Vergil would save the world himself. Also, basically what

Kind of makes me appreciate Matt being able to not only translate Itsuno's words appropriately but also communicate it in a way that the community eats it up. You either be a shrewd diplomat or a slick salesman in games promotion, Tameem was neither and the rest of Ninja Theory had to suffer for it.

It really forced me to get good at using my dodges to control my summons' positions on the field. Shit was cash.

Its a silly thing, but I kind of want a weapon randomizer option for Dante. Especially for when Bloody Palace arrives.

I don't like using more than two or three weapons at a time, it gets kind of clunky swapping around at times, but I have a really hard time picking, I honestly love them all.

This game has the best weapon loadout for dante ever. I do miss pandora at times, but double KA is just as good. I always thought Lucifer was cool, but its damage seemed like shit most of the time, so I don't mind seeing it go.

If Agni and Rudra had met Dante when he was a little older they would have gotten along really well. He just had to mellow out.

Dr Faust is great with the added bonus of just getting more orbs for you to finish everyone's set. I can't choose which melee weapon is really best because I'm using all of them all the time. Cavalier is great with crowd control and pushing, Balrog is great if you can wail on someone without getting hit, Cerberus is great even if you don't know the combos very well, and the swords are just a good middle. I have no idea how anyone can pick their favorite.
