Star Wars: Battlefront II. Why does it get so much hate even today?
I am genuinely curious about this. If you had played the game, you would discover that it has drastically improved since launch and whatever arguments people had at launch have been diminished.
There is no “pay to win”. That aspect has technically been gone since before the game even launched. It is no longer an argument.
“DICE hates the fans” no, they don’t. They are really trying to get as much content as they want out there, but good ol’ EA has a shitty approval system so they can’t say anything without having it go millions of approvals.
The game has a lot more added to it. It has new clone customization, planets, heroes, squad systems, etc. (The new heroes in particular are General Grievous, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Count Dooku and Anakin Skywalker.)
The game has its flaws, such as lack of weapons, server quality, and a few annoying bugs. Other than that, it’s a great game and I can’t wait to see what comes later this year.
This leads me back to the question. Even though it’s really good right now, why do people continue to pointlessly bash the game?
that shit with the microtransactions and lootboxes got the game bad fame so yeah people won't remember it fondly and lets not forget how much inferior the new battlefront games are to the original series
Cooper Bailey
Game is still riddled with bugs, many of which have been there from launch.
Jonathan Williams
Load up the old starwars battlefront 2, I dont care about graphics, id rather have 3 times the content from a 2005 game.
Levi Watson
Fuck off EA
Joshua Hill
Because it's simply not as good as the original Battlefront 2
Noah Garcia
reminder that we are getting clone commandos as the reinforcements.
ARC cucks need not apply
Lucas Reed
>defending an EA game
Fucken kill yourself. They made this game to drain you of money, that's it. There was no thought going into real game design. Just shoot and open those loot boxes
Brody Morales
>no galactic conquest mode >no single player content that isn't the mediocre story i pass as long as the games are a shitty battlefield clone they will never be good
Samuel Rodriguez
Look at that reddit spacing, oh boy. Game sucks, it's shallow, pacing sucks, unlocks mechanic and pacing sucks. The "story" sucks and is very cringe. Everything about it except the pretty graphics suck.
Dylan Morales
I got it for $15 and it's not nearly as bad as I expected. Seems like all the bad shit has been removed for the most part, but the gameplay still has the same problems as the first game. Point system is better I guess, but I hate the card system because I'm pretty fucked coming in as a new player. It's not RNG anymore which is good I guess, but it still sucks.
The shooting feels kinda fucked, like I still die once I get to cover.
Isaiah Ortiz
First impressions are important. Fuck up day 1 and your game will never recover.
Hunter Powell
Rainbow Six Siege recovered.
Adam Garcia
Got it for $10, and it's easily worth that. Haven't spent much time on the MP yet, though. Expected the campaign to be rubbish, but overall it's solid, just a bit rushed. Like, the Empire did nothing wrong, so they had to make Versio a tard to have Iden switch sides.
Nolan Long
all they had to do was give the original game a facelift, and maybe add a new mode or two, hell, they could have fucking copied Battlefield BUT THEY FAILED TO EVEN DO THAT It fucking baffles me how they completely ruined vehicles when they had the template in not only the original BF2, but in Battlefield and everything still turned out as a shitty turd.
As someone with like 500 hours played in it, the game is fucking awful. It is fundamentally broken in hundreds of ways that lead to nothing but a terrible, anti-fun experience full of dysfunctional mechanics, bugs that have been in since day one, cheaters, exploiters, and the worst community this side of Rainbow Six Siege and For Honor. All the old complaints and surface level reasons why people hate it like lootboxes aren't really valid, but spend enough time playing it and you'll see the core is completely rotten and never getting fixed no matter how many unbalanced new heroes or character skins they try to add. Frankly, the game is in a worse state now than at launch since every new hero and update has broken many facets of gameplay even worse and the game hasn't gotten any meaningful content like new maps or modes at all to make it worth anyone's while to stick with anymore. I fear the new mode coming in a few weeks is going to be far too little too late since all signs point to it having only 1 or 2 maps.
Jaxson Bell
They never fucked up their day one, everyone liked that game to begin with regardless of server issues.
Hudson Carter
Can you name specific bugs and broken mechanics? I've played around 10 hours and nothing really sticks out.
Jeremiah Edwards
Being nothing like the E3 demo i'd call fucking up their day one.
Levi Bell
Getting stuck in walls, the floor, and various objects in levels. Constant rubberbanding because their servers still suck and some maps, especially Kasshyyk, are not optimized well enough to even be playable so they cause this to happen constantly. Lightsaber blocking was broken a long time ago and not only has not been fixed, but keeps getting worse with each update. There's a bug, that while humorous and not game breaking at all, has nonetheless been in for a very long time unaddressed where sometimes hero characters will speak their emotes and lines in German (especially happens with Luke). There are a number of exploits in maps that allow players to become invulnerable and this is something that has existed since the first Battlefront and Battlefield 4 which maps it a bug in the fucking engine they've been using for like a decade that they still haven't bothered to fix. There's a bug right now where Kylo Ren's freeze ability consistently disables light side Jedi characters from even being able to block until they respawn. General Grievous' ability Thrust Surge still more often than not misses the target and gets him caught spinning in a circle which has been the case since November. I could keep going, but honestly, it would take me hours of posts to list every known broken mechanic and bug in the game and I think you get the picture.
Aaron Cox
I like progression in multi-player games and you can get all the weapons in the first like 5 hours. Not to mention they haven't added a single new one since it released, or any other game play related things except a few heroes and maps. The only thing to do is grind for skins which is retarded.
Also stop shilling
Luis Evans
I would play it more if it was similar to BF1.
Parker Morgan
Some examples are force pushes every now and then not registering, getting stuck in a specific wall, or an animation getting stuck. While small, they are still issues.
Gavin Martin
The rubberbanding I've experienced, but not really anything else. Maybe I haven't played enough or haven't been paying attention since the game is usually a clusterfuck of stuff happening.
Adam Butler
>Why does it get so much hate even today? 1. the Jedi feel like SHIT 2. grinding simulator: star wars edition 3. EA 4. still less content that the original 5. THE FUCKING CARD SYSTEM looks great tho, would make an amazing f2p
Dominic Richardson
It’s trash kys
Daniel Nelson
I must be alone in thinking that jedi felt like shit in the original BF2. The fun part was being the shitty soldiers.
Mason Collins
I would also like to add that the space battles are butchered compared to the original. no getting inside the enemy ship and blowing it from the inside
Ethan Phillips
The more you play the more you'll notice it, trust me. Because the longer you play the more it will probably start to piss you off like it has me and most of the rest of the community. I can't even count the number of times I've spawned in as a hero in galactic assault after busting my ass to earn enough points only to get stuck in the environment a minute or two later and either get mowed down defenselessly or forced to respawn.
Hudson Young
of course it was the fun part, being a clone was and is KINO, but in the new games often feels worse playing as anything other that non-heroes >attacks miss A FUCKING LOT >any players can burst you down in an instant that 2 things alone break the game for me
Angel Howard
that was the best part, you would have to go one man army up in that bitch
Matthew Howard
>here's a bug, that while humorous and not game breaking at all, has nonetheless been in for a very long time unaddressed where sometimes hero characters will speak their emotes and lines in German (especially happens with Luke). Funniest thing I've read all day
Robert Richardson
>improved since launch They release a broken half game and then toe the line of how little additional post release work they need to do to placate consumers like you.
The shooting feels like Overwatch with how imprecise it is. Like I get to cover and still die.
David White
imagine if they had done it elite squadron style >go inside the ship >wreck all the shit inside >run for your life to escape before it goes bum in the capsule things fucking shit was kino, kinda like that mode in battlefield 2142
Carson Gutierrez
Well by that point it costs a fraction of what it did at launch so no real harm. I can still play the original if I really give a fuck.
Dominic Roberts
I HATE this game because blocking with lightsabers has been broken for forever and everytime it's not fixed in a patch DICE just says they're "looking into it." The amount of times I've been killed because block randomly stops working is way too many to count. I honestly can't wait for the next update that will make it so you can't attack if you have no stamina. Goodbye spammie saber shitters.
As Rey if you get hit with a force power while mind tricking your block won't work anymore. As Anakin if you somehow get knocked out of heroic might you can't block or attack anymore. Grevious' trust surge with more often than not just make him naruto run around targets and not hit them. Obi-Wan's charged force push will often just immediately activate even if you hold the button down. I could go on.
I got it for five bucks. It's good for that price but the launch was awful. I like the Jedi in this game. They actually feel unique, they weren't clones of each other like the original.
Grayson Long
They had that a decade ago, there's no reason we can't have them anymore. Why can't anything AAA be just FUN anymore?
Ryan Baker
Fun doesn't sell lootboxes, only anger and frustration can.
Dominic Hernandez
They made the claim that they would be unfun to play against but the option to have them is still up in the air.
Easton Martinez
I think the real problem is they just can't get them to work in the janky ass, bug riddled Frostbite engine.
probably never gonna happen cuz they want to pretend they are not battlefield now
Christian Russell
Played it today. Whole game is choke points.
Isaiah Butler
what was the point of the campaing and the marketing? >make it seem you were gonna be the bad guys >become good guys in like fucking 30min WHY
Jacob Jackson
Because it still has fuck all the amount of content as the 2005 predecessor. It's fucking infuriating that you now have to type Star Wars Battlefront 2 2005 to not end up having the results be flooded with this shit, nu-trilogy shilling garbage.
My guess is it was a way to incorporate both Empire and Rebel gameplay but without putting more time and money into including more than one character.
Asher White
If the game had a very bad launch then people will keep hating it even if everything that was wrong was fixed It's because all the hype they created went down the toilet when they launched the game, because of their lies they said to their fanbase
Genuinely enjoyed the first nu-battlefront a great deal more than the second. Battlefront 2's campaign was so shit it's bothersome how much they advertised it and said "look we're actually releasing a full game now" and despite more 'content' in the multiplayer I didn't enjoy some of the changes they made to it. The first games multiplayer was simple and arcadey and I could enjoy it for that. 2's multiplayer was trying to be more like the original battlefront games but it didn't do nearly enough to bridge that gap, feels like a cheap imitation.
Samuel Lewis
I bought it for $6 from a flash sale on the PSN store, put the system to sleep while it downloaded 90GB for the stupid game and forgot about it. Ill give it a chance sometime soon.
Jackson Barnes
But you play as multiple characters.
Adrian White
Inferior to it's 14 year old namesake even after all the improvements, still lacking significant portions of what made a game 14 years older a significantly better game, it being a digital casino is a perfectly valid argument, I have to refuse to buy the game and games like it on principles even if they did their best to remove the elements which made it a digital casino in the past. I also hate the randomized card skill system, it isn't IMO good for the competitive aspects of the game and it replaced a perfectly good and enjoyable class system with match-to-match merit based unlocking of specialized units. The card system also makes vehicle gameplay based entirely on luck while the superior battlefront games allowed many players to simultaneously use vehicles while also creating an environment where anyone could easily obtain a vehicle. The 14 year old game's story is also IMO superior, which is saying a lot because that story was fucking barebones.
Fuck I don't think this game even has the same level of content as the 2004 original Battlefront, fuck'sake it's been 15 years and this game is still inferior to it's original by a significant margin. Why would you expect me to pay for that?
Michael Barnes
This, agreed. They completely ruined gunplay in 2. It was great in the first one and feels like shit in the second. Map design is also worse across the board in 2 for Galactic Assault.
Liam Fisher
Women aren't suppose to be evil drumpf nazis user
Ethan Richardson
Remember when Yea Forums started defending it because reddit hated on it at launch?
Aiden Taylor
Tell me when they add Droidekas and get the real voice actors for the clones and droids.
Daniel Perry
Barkers already voice acting for the Clones, for Droids I can't really say much.
Leo Rivera
I've played both 2005 BF2 and this one and this one feels a little better mechanically. It has far less content and you can't drive an AT-AT or lasso it with a ship living out that real Star Wars fantasy but it's not terrible. I never really understood why BF2 is so beloved even to this day, but maybe that's because I never played it online.
Owen Campbell
They already have the real voice actors, what are you talking about?
Nolan Price
The real reason that happened is because Disney forced them to. If Iden stayed with the Empire, then she would eventually join the First Order, and Disney didn't want the game to spoil their origins before the movies did. However, in hindsight, this turned out to be super dumb since the Last Jedi didn't bother to explain shit about the first order or Snoke.
Alexander Perez
1. ea are shit 2. battlefront 3 died for their reboot garbage 3. the original battlefront 2 was straight up better in every way than eas battlefront 2 why do you think it wouldn't get hate for this shit?
William Reed
Same thing happened with CoD WW2. Game is fine now, still no excuse for the shitty launch on both games but the games are playable and fun now.
Josiah Peterson
A shame nobody plays it now.
Thomas Williams
>Battlefront 3 died for this reboot garbage
No it didn't. It got cancelled because the devs were incompetent, wasted millions of dollars of Lucasarts' money, and then went bankrupt with nothing playable to show for it. That happened many, many years before Disney even bought Star Wars. Why are so many Yea Forumsvirgins so ill informed about these things?
Easton Wilson
On PC? Is it really that dead? I would think since this is the latest (and probably the fucking last one in a loong time) WW2 game it'd have a lot of players. I'm a console shitter and I find games in seconds
Matthew Young
Steam count says it only has 500 people playing.
Sebastian Carter
Temuera was the original voice actor, you fucking Zoomers.
Cameron Johnson
And how many lines has he said in all three movies compared to someone who voiced 7 seasons of a tv show you fucking retard? Morrisons voice is only for Boba Fett who was personally raised by Jango Fett while Baker is for every clone.
Chase Watson
>nothing playable to show for it except we've literally seen gameplay of it lad. if there were nothing playable we could not have seen it and we don't give a shit how much money they wasted or how long it took. what we saw of it was still leagues ahead of what ea shat out, sooooo
He wasn't the voice actor, he was Jango. And he plays Boba Fett in the game, your point you absolute fucking retard?
Sebastian Kelly
It was literally pre pre alpha with years to go and was a pile of shit. It had like one half finished map and a couple of characters. It was nowhere near even halfway playable and it looked like dogshit.
Brody Ward
>all three movies Going to ignore that retarded line. He was the voice actor for Battlefront 1/2 and Repbulic Commando. So all of the actually good games. Nufront 2 is garbage and the voice acting is part of it.
Brainlet.
Jordan Davis
>voices the 501st cutscenes >HUUUUUUUUUR HE WAS,DA MAIN VOICE OF DA CLOONZ did every Clone in the game sound like him? You're as retarded as a brainlet wojak image, stop typing anytime soon to atleast attempt to save face.
I'm tired of all these heroes being released. We need more weapons. Its the same 4 weapons for each class. Everyone farms the officers so they can get heroes. Fuck this game
Jeremiah Ramirez
Because the way they designed it is linear as all fuck, repetitive, predictable, and lacking. Better than their first game by a lot, but still being stubborn about designing the game people actually want. On rails bullshit, vehicles with usage limitations, and forced map play/rotation are some of the worst things about this game as well. I hate that they try to go out of their way to "not make it like battlefield" but they don't understand that the original 2 games were popular because they were essentially a star wars battlefield. With the gradual updates following EA BFII's release, notice how it's sneakily becoming more and more similar to the "original" vision of the old games. Way to backpedal on their shit.
Gabriel Johnson
u wot m8?
He didn't voice them in any of those games back then.
Nolan Green
I'm convinced you've never even played any of those games.
Easton Brown
>It was nowhere near even halfway playable and it looked like dogshit. And still looked 10x better than the battlefront 2 we have. Shocking.
Daniel Howard
Regular Clones were voiced by David Boat for some reason
>cross era heroes and weapons STILL >vehicles on rails STILL >vehicles do not spawn on map thats why, you do not make a star wars game and expect autists to like messing with canon
Colton Taylor
I have turbo brainlet.
Joseph Lee
No it really didn't at all.
Brody Ward
This thread and the amount of pettiness over them not just using Temuera Morrison for the Clones like they planned because Sam Witwer pushed for them to bring in DBB makes me really glad he did.
Austin Campbell
>Why does it get so much hate even today? >Heres some shit we prepared eww I don't want shit, no thanks >but we cleaned it all up, its better now!
Yes and it totally failed because they brought in an award-winning voice actor who gave different personalities to the same person hundreds of times over
Charles Lee
It's just one retard discontent that all the Clones don't sound like Morrison when in reality is only suppose to voice Boba while all the other Clones have their Kamino Baker voice.
They never planned that and Sam Witwer had nothing to do with it. He is the official canon voice of Maul just as Baker is the official canon voice of the clones. Lucasfilm told them to use them for those roles and use Morrison for Boba. If Jango ever gets added it will also be Morrison.
Oliver Diaz
>shit on my plate >wipe away the shit >wonder why I don't want to eat off the same plate
next time research your bullshit before spewing it
Carter King
The game sold like 15 million copies. Do you have brain damage?
Bentley Parker
One of the many reasons. I'm sure there are hundreds of others. God what a mess that game is.
Brayden Allen
>why do people hate this game? It is unfathomable. Gee user maybe it is because it is worse than a game released 14 years ago. WOW unbelievable right? LOL
Well the actual game is fine, the biggest issues were the scummy business practices.
Joseph Perez
>poop AND food analogy could you be anymore Yea Forums
Ryan Wilson
Battlefront 3 lived on as Elite Squadron. It was such a great game that took everything Battlefront 2 had and added in great improvements unless you like class based and not customization. If only it was on more than handhelds it would've been perfect.
It's about on-par as someone who thought BF2005 was just alright. Both games are giant clusterfucks that at least fulfill some child-like Star Wars fantasy.
In the video you linked to """"disprove""" me, he literally says and I quote
>"The truth is, they were already there. The truth is, they were already on that same page anyway either because they knew it was the best choice themselves or because of Lucasfilm telling them to."
Literally saying exactly what I just told you. How about you watch your own "research" first before spouting bullshit you utter retard? Thanks for BTFO'ing yourself for me.
Cameron Torres
>That planet to space transition. They already had all the core game mechanics down for 3 when it was scrapped. They couldn't pull that shit in DICE even if they wanted to.
>I cheated on you... >But I apologized!! >Why do you still hate me??
Lucas Anderson
Loot boxes were removed before the game launched tho
Nolan Price
First off, these. You would know this if you were old enough to have played the original(s). Secondly, you can only have one launch. And it was awful. Third, if you are caught doing Shady bullshit and have to revert all of that shady bullshit even if the final product doesn't have that shady bullshit you have lost so much customer good-will that no one will look at you the same way again - just like Microsoft and the Xbox One (trying for always online and no used games etc, unless you're too young for that too?)
Luke Green
>still terrible hit detection >still awful balance >still takes forever to grind to unlock new operators And even then it's the ONE (1, SINGULAR) game where this happened.
Tyler Ross
The funniest part about this post is that it can apply to quake champions, overwatch, paladins, etc...
Isaac Sullivan
They're still there, they just have cosmetics now.
James Lewis
I got it super cheap late last year. There's good in it but it still has a major issue.
It's not pay to win anymore but the grind is still ridiculous. New players get stomped by veterans who literally have more health and do more damage.
I hate how shooters can't seemingly exist without bars to fill. Remember when people played games because they were fun and not because they were skinner boxes?
Blake Collins
Literally just the Titans from 2142
Thomas Richardson
Star Was Battlefront II was and still is a great game but I don't know what the fuck you're talking about or what your screenshot is from
Brayden Evans
I get that but at the same time the point system makes it so 3 people aren't diddling each other's balls in the back of the base waiting for a tank or plane to spawn. It was always retarded how 5 people just sat on the airstrip waiting for jets.
Easton Ross
I don't remember that happening in Classic Battlefront 2.
William Anderson
Yea Forums will hate BF2 forever. Doesn't matter what changes, people are too vindictive to give it another chance. Not that it's unwarranted, the game shot itself in the foot.
Xavier Cox
>shitty YAS QUEEN SLAY story mode >No GC mode
Carson Edwards
I liked the meme videos people made in response to how broken Anakin was before being nerfed, but the best part of his update was the Clone Troopers.
Stupid EAshill. Your game will never be as good as Pandemic's
Eli Baker
Not the guy you're talking about, but I like Baker's clone voice. He sounds like a good replacement for Morrison. The only clone voices I dislike are the ones that lack Morrison's accent, which are unfortunately present in the original Battlefront 2 and Republic Commando. Baker did a great job of giving each clone a slightly different voice while still keeping the accent in TCW.
Jace Nguyen
Rocket spam was harmless, the explosion radius was tiny and you could just roll out of the way. Detpack spam with the long range throw glitch was far worse.
Adam Perez
>3rd person essentially mandatory >movement feels weird, can't mantle over anything in maps full of knee-high obstacles >map design is a complete clusterfuck with either wide-open areas or cramped tunnels, confusing, cluttered layouts with few visual landmarks >character progression includes a lot of flat upgrades >infinitesimal TTK combined with weird maps creates a weird gameplay flow where you're constantly spawning and respawning and your team is barely around instead of actually having to hold a line
Luis Martin
Tomorrow would have been a better time for a thread considering they're revealing Clone Commandos and Commando Droids tomorrow
Jonathan Lopez
I hate his voice because it makes them sound like cartoon characters. Sounds like they're trying too hard to be heroic when they should be sounding more serious like Temuera's voice acting in Republic Commando. Same applies to the droid voices.
Caleb Ross
WHERE ARE THOSE DROIDEKAS?
Hunter Walker
The droids always sounded like bumbling retards in every format.
Having Matt Wood voice them and Grievous could not be any more accurate to the source material.
Carter Cook
Yes they're retarded, but Wood's voice is too retarded and cartoony.
Samuel Young
I'm just glad he kept Morrison's accent, unlike most of the other voice actors. I do agree with you on the droid voices though. I hate the new ones but love the Naboo/original Battlefront ones.
>The droids always sounded like bumbling retards in every format. Bullshit: youtube.com/watch?v=RFnfw-rmOs0 They actually sounded threatening back then. The bumbling retards you're talking about are the new ones from Episode 3 and TCW.
Xavier Gutierrez
Not at all. He is how they are supposed to sound as is Baker as the Clones. Literally perfect.
