the game is boring because it is just navigating menus. thats it. thats the combat, the story, the inventory, everything. its just like an RTS but without any actual thinking.
the characters are overdone because they are literally just archetypes with nothing else. they have one character trait each, and nothing more to say.
the story is boring because it is by the books, and just keeps slogging along with exposition dumps at every point, with no real substance of its own. they even stole the villain from the previous game.
the writing is garbage because it just dumps the story at you, rather than laying it out as you go, and has major plotholes and errors. (also, 3 texts dumps is fucking pathetic, this game deserves far more hate for this reason alone)

They're hardly the same person. He goes from the kid next door to a brat on a power trip, and ends up traveling alone for so long that he loses all perception of time. When you meet him in Mother 3, he's a deluded old miser that's been around long enough to see entire civilizations rise and crumble, living out an idyllic fantasy of the past and ready to end it all simply because he can. Even his SSB trophy description notes he's been through a lot.

My personal belief is that the Devil's Machine was barely holding Giygas together, let alone containing him. Porky's erratic behavior in the final battle was partially a result of him being affected by its madness due to his close proximity.
