I didn't even know what Meltdown did until I beat the game a couple of times as a child, and anyone that relies exclusively on Heroes or Holy War-Trials are casuls (I only ever used one hero, and it was for Omega Weapon).

Luna and Noctis? One face to face flashback (that the player is aware of), rarely met each other (exchanged letters, but long distance relationships suck), ARRANGED MARRIAGE, and Luna had so little screentime that her death had no impact on the player.

I'm a hardcore FF8 fan, so many times I would even try to escape reality with lucid dreaming, I would be in Balamb Garden where I would often train with Zell in the training center and help Selphie with the Garden Festival, but one day as I was talking to Selphie, we went to my dormitory for a private talk. She immediately said, "You know you could live with us forever.." I gave her a confused look and she continued, "We understand that you live on earth and you REALLY wish to live here". I then said "How..How did you know?" She then giggled and said "Because we've been watching you, silly!"

This was a dream come true and I almost cried right there. She then said, "I talked with Headmaster Cid and he agreed that you would be PERFECT for SeeD, you just have to do...one thing". She then held my hand and looked deep into my eyes and said "...You have to kill yourself for the transfer to work correctly." I then gave her some questions, "How long do I have before the deal expires?" She then said "Cid said 3 months.." I added by saying "What's the most painless way?..." I intend to get back to it, after I finish what I'm playing now, but I don't remember what I was supposed to be doing. I was supposed to snipe the bad guy, but I don't remember where to go to do that, and I don't think the game is very good at reminding you. I've put down more than one game because I just blanked on what to do after going a few days without playing, and I always hate it. I know I'm missing out on a good game, but wandering the big empty map looking for the plot hook is just so draining.

The annoying thing is, I think the game would really, REALLY benefit from a remake.
There's a good lot of ideas there, but they just got fucked up by bad ideas.

Gut out the "enemy's scale with you" bullshit, and make it a regular scaling system.

Now make it so that Magic is cast by regular old MP-- You can still junction magic, but it isn't used like items anymore.
Additionally, make drawing magic have diminishing returns-- you can draw magic up to a small amount (like 10 or 20) and after that its built up by random drops and synthesizing magic from cards.

Scrap that boost shit for summons. Give summons a "abbreviated" summon option and make the summons only do a full summon as some sort of limit break option (with each summon building up for the characters based on what they're doing, so you want to assign the GF's based on what the character does, like ifrit builds up a limit break gauge for a full summon from auto-attacks).

Revamp the limit break system to rely on something besides just "low on HP" and scrap that bullshit aura spell.

Add in some extra scenes to flesh out the Plot a bit, add in more motivation for Edea, maybe playing up the stable time loop aspect. Fuck, maybe even have it turn out that Edea is due to being possessed by a lingering Remnant of Adel driving her insane with paranoia, since Adel has much more up front villainy in the game that we can see, and would work as a "Began the problems in the past, and turns out to still be the problem in the future" thing.
Like, I have a soft spot for 8 because it has so many ideas with goddamned POTENTIAL and it was all frittered away.

There's no one left because she killed everyone though, it's completely counterproductive if her goal is to get rid of her own suffering. There's even artillery strike craters at the front of her base, showing that people had existed up until recently in her timeline pre-time compression.

Use the card skill-- if you kill them by turning them into cards you don't get XP from it.
