I don't get why people find this scene so abhorrent. Like within the context of the scene, he's forcing the laugh, and how bad he is at it is, like, intentionally humorous? That's why they both break down genuinely laughing at the end of the scene. I will say though that it is incredible that this scene can't be paused on the PS2, and yes I did have a parent walk in as this was happening

FFX was the last square game that didnt have skippable/pausable cinematics. X-2 had them and everything after that too.

the beginning of the game is REALLY fucking slow.

When you land on Besaid all the way to the end of Mihen Highway is PEAK COMFY for me. The game is so relaxed I love it. It also helps that I love any game that takes place on the ocean

that part is ok but before that you get all this zanarkand shit and then this obnoxious al bhed wank and those ruins.
besaid is good because thats when you actually start playing the game.

That's true. The al bhed part is so weird. It's like they wanted to go for a future city world in Zanarkand and then they changed their mind. And then you have a steampunk pirate adventure and then they change their mind again. Still, at least the Zanarkand opening gives us Tidus's theme, which is pure kino to walk to

I don't really get what you mean. The Zanarkand and Al-bhed parts of the prologue are vital parts of the story.

Like, it jumps settings three times within the first two hours of the game and while it's necessary for the story, it feels like the story itself is having difficulty deciding what setting it wants the story to take place in.
