Bethesda are such a weird company. I can't think of another company that has such wild disregard for their fanbase, but still remains popular. It's like every game they make takes a dump on their previous fans, but a million casuals swarm to it so it's okay.

The funny thing is that these two things go hand in hand. Levitation and jumping was cut because consoles couldn't handle open towns, so Bethesda wrote that magic got weaker on Nirn due to Towers being destroyed. Cyrodiil was turned into generic fantasy because LotR was big at the time. Daedra variety in Skyrim was cut due to 360/PS3 memory and development limitations, but "lore" states it's because after Oblivion Crisis only stronger daedra can access the plain of Nirn.
Even Zenimax gives more of a shit about original TES lore than Bethesda.
