Muv Luv is by far the best one I've read. youtube.com/watch?v=g1Pe-cPY8-U

Rape Day

Isn't alternative the best one, and each of the three installment is ~50 hours long?

Can someone please give me a quick rundown on the correct playing order of the underwater ray romano series?

Fate stay night
Dangan ronpa
Blue reflection
Katawa shoujo
Phoenix wright

Euphoria
Starless
Umineko
Bible Black
Subahibi

Don't play Dangan Ronpa

Phoenix Wright

Alternative is the best but you can't read it without reading Extra and Unlimited first.

Alternative is around 50 hours, but Extra can range from 10-20 depending on if you only do the two mandatory routes or all of them, and Unlimited less than 10 as there's no actual route splits, just two initial endings based on the last dialogue choice and a third unlocked after completion.

muvluv

umineko
higurashi

I wanna play it but I heard it only gets dark after chapter 8 or so.

Saya no Uta. Umineko and FSN are also very good but massive time sinks. Saya can be beaten in like six hours.

>Isn't alternative the best one, and each of the three installment is ~50 hours long?
Basically, but you have to read them all.

Extra = Part 1
Unlimited = Part 2
Alternative = Part 3

Extra and Unlimited are in the same game while Alternative is it's own game. But they're all connected. Extra / part 1 is a completely different genre, it's slice of life high school, but it is important because it introduces all the characters and makes you care about them once you hit unlimited. Don't skip on extra, reading some synopsis online is not going to work.

I know theres better charts out there

Attached: 1512561815932.jpg (4129x2239, 3.23M)

why are people recommending muv luv? That's almost a hundred hours of reading no?

>6 VNs
Kara no Shoujo. Just one is enough.

if you have a few hundred hours to throw away I'd recommend you starting with Umineko. Whether you use original sprites or PS3 sprites is your choice and people will yell at you either way. Once you're finished you can begin participating in Umineko threads which are plenty of fun

Attached: 1541262841666.jpg (363x252, 27K)

People recommending the garbage piles of 999 and muvluv are fucking retarded

Attached: image.jpg (410x230, 14K)

>Extra 10-20
>Unlimited less than 10
Now THAT'S speedreading.
According to Steam I have a combined 73 hours in Extra and Unlimited. I haven't replayed any routes, and taking out the time where I was just fucking around or AFK, it probably comes to 60 hours of actually reading.
I doubt you could even finish one route of either in 10 hours if you were actually reading everything.

Umineko is quite the fucking trip. It has a pretty high standard for entry though, the length would put off new readers.

Still worth it.

I have a few older charts but that one seems good enough for OP

>Never got Erika route translated for Fortune Arterial

What sort of monster translates every route but the best girl route

It takes forever to finish it especially with really slow parts like the beginning of part 4 that kill any desire to keep going.
But the memes are eternal

Attached: 1387953937690.png (278x278, 36K)

The first route you do will probably take awhile, but anything else depends on how much you bother reading repeated scenes. I sure as hell wasn't reading through every line of the lacrosse arc when I did the second run for Sumika's ending.

I really should start Shinjuku at some point

Attached: 1544161396614.png (214x251, 61K)

I can only speak for myself but:
1. It's good.
2. I prefer longer stories so I can get better attached to the characters.
3. Surely you have read books before? Why wouldn't you manage a long VN if you can already read a long book (series)?

hey

Yume Miru Kusuri
X-change 1, 2, 3, Ying Yang Alternative 1 and 2

In any case I would say each is 20 hours even if you do the bare minimum.

As amazing as it is, I wouldn't recommend Kara no Shoujo to anyone new to VNs. They would get overwhelmed by the huge amount of choices and bad ends.

Saya no Uta
Yume Miru Kusuri
Higanbana no Saku Yoru Ni
Planetarian
Katawa Shoujo

Each different and good enough for what they are.

You shouldn't recommend it because 1) it isn't vidya and 2) it's weebfaggotry

any recommendations for something that might appeal to someone that really likes SnU? love the soundtrack, atmosphere and themes (isolation, misanthropy, loss of morality). doesn't have to be Lovecraft inspired, but that wouldn't hurt either. the closest thing I've found was Takuji's route in SubaHibi.
other than that I've read Higurashi, Muv Luv, Fate/Stay Night, Danganronpa trilogy, 999, Steins;Gate. tried Kikokugai but couldn't really get into it at the time.

look fags, I fucking love Umineko, but there's no way someone who is new to the genre can get through a 120h VN with basically no choices and not get bored. Something like Saya no Uta, Steins;Gate or even Fata Morgana are way better choices.

That one VN you all hate

You're not a real visual novel reader if you haven't read Euphoria.

anything you fucking want. its not like VNs have a high learning curve like fighting or rhythm games.

It's out only in JP right now
ENG just got announced for 2020

Read anything you like as long as you don't give money to Sekai, MoeNovel or SakuraGame.

...

fuck off back mongrel and stay there

why

Is ddlc a good vn

one of the best.

MoeNovel is a subsidiary of Pulltop and they only do all age, Steam releases of Pulltop VNs that weren't all ages in Japan.
SakuraGame literally machine translates any VN they pick up.
Sekai Project cares more about licensing VNs than releasing them. They half ass their quality check, release VNs before their editors get a chance to finish editing, and very rarely if ever fix mistakes after they do their release. They have so much things licensed that their progress tracker only has half of their projects listed, almost none of their Kickstarters have been completely fulfilled, their translations are sometimes so subpar they have to promise to fix them which sets back the translations of sequels for years, and they have no programmers so those delayed projects are left to wither, their CEO openly mocks the VN fanbase, and their storefront is a giant pile of crap that has no my account page so if you lose your email with your download link you need to message support. Oh and you only have a hard 5 download limit on purchases, and failed downloads count towards that limit.

Sekai Project
>sitting on 40+ licenses with the intent of never releasing some of them just so they can block their competition from licensing them
>horrible releases, see Hoshizora, Leyline, original Maitetsu release
>aggressively buying almost all fan-translation cheaply, so they can sell them officially
>killed almost the whole fan-translation community because of above due to people being scared of even starting to fan-translate
>tried to buy the Baldr Sky fan-translation for pennies and scared the translator by saying they will sue him if he even thinks of releasing it
>it's been 3 years since Baldr Sky was picked up and still no 18+ confirmation nor release date
And much much more.
MoeNovel
>almost all titles are censored and butchered
SakuraGame
>Machine translated and/or censored

Unteralterbach is the only possible answer.

Higurashi has 8 chapters, 4 question arcs and 4 answer arcs, and every single one of them has it's own 'ending', and all of them get dark.
Every chapter is like pressing a reset button on the story

Is Vita good for getting VNs?

Dream Daddy
Monster Prom
Ace Attorney
Doki Doki Literature Club

>vita and good in the same sentence
lol

Besides Uta 1-3 or otomes you're better off with a PC because every other one it has is available on PC with less compressed audio, at higher resolution, and with higher resolution assets. If you really want portable VNs then get a cheap windows tablet.

Wait till 2020 so you can play them in order
Prelude to the Fallen
Mask of Deception
Mask of Truth

Only if nisa doesnt do a full on meme localization of the first one.

Utawarerumono

How the fuck can you be a ""visual novel beginner"" it's just fucking reading bro

I want to read some more detective VNs.

Attached: 1491110985346.png (401x401, 230K)

Some people may find stereotypical VN tropes to be off putting like hours of reading about the daily life of Yoshi Cuckishima before the meat of the story actually starts.

What's the best translated girlfriend/dating simulator VN?

Fruit of Grisaia.

Everlasting Summer. I played it to pass the time one day but it sucked me in enough to get every ending.

Attached: 20aec1000792a4f0016030e25e4a3154_L.jpg (900x438, 376K)

Try Kara no Shoujo

I can't self-insert as a super soldier with the social aptitude to have banter.

Kara No Shoujo 1 and 2 bro

Attached: 1552180213214.png (710x577, 30K)

Planitarean obviously

I don't understand self-inserting in anything. Everyone is a boring person, who would you want the main character in stories to be boring too?

What are VNs where they get /blacked/

Sharin no Kuni should be easy and compelling enough

I like the idea behind the VN genre, however I could never get into most VNs because they are usually just a shitty fake dating sim, a 'waifu' route game, or simply just a self-insert fantasy where the main character doesn't even have a face and you're supposed to pretend it's yourself.

I really enjoyed a well rounded VN like Steins;Gate (and its pre-se-quel), where the focus of the story was... the story itself, and not just which girl you wanted to fuck (although there was some 'girl' routes, I don't mind that as much).

Can you recommend me a VN with an actual good story, with no self-insert main character, and that isn't just some moeshit garbage?

Attached: 7ef.jpg (600x600, 32K)

I have been meaning to, I guess it's time.
What kind of genre do you want?

Attached: 1491110476632.png (500x452, 280K)

>What kind of genre do you want?
Any genre, really. Adventure, Sci-Fi, Historical, Supernatural/Thriller, etc... As long as the storytelling is good and that the *story* itself is good (not just self-insert dating sim #31442)

If you want good storytelling then try Higurashi or Umineko but I am also biased. Try them if you can read very long stories. Higurashi is a bit rougher in the beginning due to it being the writer's first VN but it eventually irons out and Umineko is just gold the entire way through.

Who needs girlfriends when you have bros?
You get girlfriends too though.

Attached: majikoi.jpg (800x600, 225K)

Because I want to date the girl, not watch some other guy date her from his perspective. It's best for the protag to not even have eyes, just covered by his bangs. He should be canonically physically average/unattractive with no skills too.

Mayuuchi best girl

Try Kara no Shojo, unless you dislike 18+ stuff.

As somebody who's 35, long hair, long beard, and that looks nothing like the random self-insert retard highschool boy in these kind of games, I would rather have at least somebody with a sliver of personality and likeability as a main character, not some blank template that doesn't even look like me in the first place anyway.

Attached: nepnepsmile.png (316x263, 119K)

>Yume Miru Kusuri
I don't get why this is recommended so often.

Are there any good VNs for the Switch? I have S;G Elite but that's pretty much it.

Attached: CjcQBE6.jpg (362x346, 38K)

So do the other guys never fuck anyone in this game? I haven't played it yet.

Translation never ever.

Attached: 1526935922843.jpg (4958x1453, 761K)

>getting elite over the original
wtf

I already have the original and 0 on PS4 and PSVita both.

All Majikoi girls are best girls.
Except Chris.

Attached: 1354978127963.jpg (1600x1200, 447K)

This, I would rather have a better written main character that can eventually push a story than a blank slate that amounts to nothing. Are there even any like good dating VNs with a blank slate MC? I know shit like Muv-Luv, Fruit of Grisaia, School Days and F/SN are all not like this.

>recommending kara no shoujo
It's like detective/mystery VN for people who never read a criminal story. The only good thing about it are characters and their backstories. And Toko's voice, holy shit it's so perfect.

You are the person I want to talk to then, tell me about a reason to play Elite if you already read 0 and S;G a bunch? Like what does Elite do new/better?

Elite supposedly adds the anime art over the VN art.

The problem is there aren't many good detective/mystery VNs outside like Higurashi, Umineko and I guess G-Senjou no Maou.

Nothing, really. Elite just adds animated scenes, both from the anime and new animated stuff for the extra routes/events that were not covered by the anime. That's pretty much it, really. I personally prefer the style in the original, but Elite isn't bad either.

Attached: nnnnhhh.png (1555x667, 439K)

Well, thanks for getting milked, they deserve it, and I'm not being ironic.

You're welcome, and I agree. I have a lot of disposable income so I don't mind dropping extra money for things I appreciate, otherwise it's just left there unused anyway (well, investment fund and whatnot, but still).

Attached: 1510334045587.jpg (1150x1266, 134K)

I see thanks for the tips.

At least they kept the extra routes and events so that's something. I expected Elite would just do away with them like the anime and completely fuck them up like Moeka's route in the anime.

I wouldn't recommend anything. If they enjoy sad stories, I guess Planetarian. It's cheap, short and has the essence of nakige. If they like it, they have a lot more to experience.

But as for any other genre, I'm not sure.

Attached: 27f997190c695b9853de1b6784eb6359.jpg (627x885, 78K)

Man i fucking love Maho like god dam. I also never watched the 0 adaptation but I don't give a shit.

Attached: 1483440166028.png (269x365, 183K)

0 anime was only good for more Maho. Just go watch it that in mind.

Attached: Hiyajo.Maho.full.1349615.jpg (1024x1102, 148K)

That is what I originally planned on doing but I just stopped caring right as it came out.

Attached: 1487783258413.jpg (1446x2048, 253K)

0 anime was actually pretty good, considering the VN was a clusterfuck of storylines and the ending was absolutely atrocious. I preferred the anime interpretation of the ending over the VN, even though in the anime as well there's things that could've been done much better.

0 anime handled each and every ending badly. All the endings of each route were basically back to back in the anime which is just awful pacing. 5 climaxes back to back? That just doesn't work.

Utawarerumono sequels/remake because the games try to be a somewhat competent SRPG on top of the VN bits and also this dumb bird

Attached: 1552326575816.jpg (379x476, 43K)

What's with the bizarre growths coming out of characters heads in this series? Is it set in India?

planetarian

It's much closer to a thriller than a mystery. I wish I knew that going in to it because I made a shit ton of notes reading it and discarded who actually ended up being involved because I thought it was way, way to obvious so it must have been a ruse.

Attached: vVkoPPU.gif (250x250, 992K)

Yes
Yes, the Windows port of the PC-98 release. Includes japanese voices where available.

If you like Zero Escape, or not, you'll enjoy YU-NO.

Oh, you said officially translated. The remake is currently on PS4 and Vita but there's rumors? of it coming to PC in English.

You'll find people with opinions for and against the remake and there are objective differences.

Can you give me a tl;dr on the opinions/differences? I saw a youtube trailer for the Switch, is it coming out on the switch as well or what? You think I should wait for it to be officially translated or play the old PC-98 port with fanmade patch?

Kazuma is def not a self-insert either.

Already went through the entire AA series and Zero's Escape, as well as Ghost Trick. Also went thought all the Danganronpas and I still am thirsty for more mystery/detective VNs.

Attached: 1509518115882.png (1500x1367, 1.78M)

You know how the infinity series was made by Uchikoshi and another guy?
The other guy also did Root Double and I/O, you could try them both
For raw mystery maybe try Chaos;Child, the common route is pretty good at that but the true route and the side routes are a mess

Katawa shoujo and Phoenix Wright
Everything else is trash for edgy teens who thinks rape and gore = deep writing

I wanted to read C;C but my mind is stubborn and is still waiting for C;H Noah to finally be translated first. Honestly I haven't even played the Infinity series and I feel pretty bad about it.

It can be good writing.

The first thing to note is how there's already fans of the patch.

However, I will list objective differences that I know of (haven't thoroughly researched) compared to the fan patch:
>Remake has new art style, music, unsure of voice cast
>Remake might have overall more voiced lines, but the original is already voice heavy
>Remake has a backlog if you miss or want to reread a line
>Remake has an auto advance (unsure of its function when not voiced)
>Remake has an optional feature to show clickable places on the screen, makes original's pixel hunts less bullshit

I'm unsure of how the remake handles the handful of sex scenes, but the fan patch restored and translated them regardless. The patch also restored voices from I believe the Saturn version (the port was originally voiceless).
As an EOP myself with no interest to research, this is most of what I know about it.
The original is tiny pain to get running on modern OS (requires a registry file and a compat mode to limit color availability) as well as having a few bugs of its own (changing the MC's name from the main menu corrupts your save) but it's definitely playable and enjoyable.

Why is it so good

G Senjo No Maou.

Good to know an user already has checked out thousands of VNs and confirmed for all of us that every single one except Katawa Shoujo and Phoenix Wright features rape and gore

but normies don't read

after having read all the good ones, what are your all time favorite manga?

Attached: ss,.jpg (2592x1936, 885K)

Subarashiki Hibi was my first VN. I don't know if I fucked up or not, but it's the only VN I've ever enjoyed. Everything after it just wasn't on the same level.

Where can I download Subarashiki Hibi? I see no download on Nyaa.

Isn't it on Steam?

Isn't it censored on Steam?

Look again, it's there.
If you want to support the release then pick it up on JAST.

Buy it on Steam.

But if you really can't, search on Tokyo Toshokan
If you really like it buy it afterwards.

I have no problem buying it since I am not a poorfag, I just want the full experience.

Anything from Asano Inio, especially Oyasumi Pun Pun. That's my all time favorite.

If you're into puzzle/mystery/detective stuff, Tomodachi Game, Darwin's Game, Nachun, Let's Lagoon, Talentless Nana, Mayonaka no Cross Method, Promised Neverland, Love and Lies

If you want comfy nice stuff, Bonnouji, Yotsukoto, Shoujo Shuumatsu

If you want good adventure manga, Asebi and the adventure of sky world is the one I am currently the most hyped about, Made in Abyss, Cambria (not many chapters unfortunately), and I also read One Piece (although it's normie af).

For isekai stuff, I really enjoy Shield Hero (reading the LN right now), Mushoku Tensei (really good), Dungeon Seeker, Saihate no Paladin

For lewds, anything from the Nozoki Ana author, the dude knows how to draw really good shit, Uwakoi (and anything from that author), Pinks (kinda fucked up but nice),

If you want love story kinda thing, Domestic Kanojo is really good (stay the fuck away from the anime that is airing right now, it's garbage), Rental Girlfriend, Blue Flag (really weird, but it grew on me).

And a shitton of other series, but honestly I am just scrolling through my "favorites" list and there's thousands of them so I'm definitely missing a lot.

If you buy it on Steam you have to patch it afterwards.
Not completely sure about this but I believe the JAST version is full and uncensored, except maybe for "that" one scene. Which there's a patch for anyway.

So it's a matter of practicality.

Imagine having read all the "good" manga and having tastes this unbelievably shit.

Saya no Uta is pretty great, but it will alter you.

Go ahead and suggest manga you think is good. Chances are I've already read it, and more.

As I said, I just mentioned stuff I've read recently that I remember and that I'm waiting for new chapters to be released. I have a billion manga in my last, I'm not gonna go through all of it and sort it since I couldn't care less. I have very varied tastes.

How do you have the time to read so much? Don't play much vidya?

I was interested in this but I hear they heavily censored it.

Such a shame.

I read 1-2 hours in bed (between 11pm and 1am) and falling asleep, and then during my commute to work (40min each way). Also I read during my lunch/dinner break at work. Sometimes I play vidya on my switch, but I find that to be awkward while having lunch so reading is easier. I play vidya in the morning.
