I usually just win by chip damaging him because I can never get a full stagger near the end of his health bar.

It's mediocre at level 1. You only get extra style and DT (lol, DT for Nero) over the regular roll.
You're probably getting some extra invulnerability frames but they are unnecessary at that point.
Level 2 and 3 are great, though. After the dodge, you can immediately position yourself wherever you want without losing any time. You also get a shitload of invulnerability frames allowing you to walk through pretty much anything.

You need 5000 points total to get an S
To achieve those points, you need to perform in the level in certain ways. After every fight it shows you how many points you currently have.
If you have 2-3k points, you are fucked. If you have 4200 points, you are good as long as you dont die, because there is a 1.2x multiplier if you never die.
There is also a 2.0x multiplier for no dmg, which stacks with the 1.2x, so you can S rank pretty much any mission by not taking dmg.

Time and orbs dont influence your ranking at all

Longer fights have a larger weight in the final score. If you got SSS in a single enemy but only a C in the largest fight in the level, you will have a very low score

Timing the buster punches after attacks is hard as fuck, if you mash even a little the buster will come out instead. I feel like I'm going crazy pressing both triggers at slightly different intervals to get both the exceeds and the punches out but boy is it satisfying. I'm very rusty at DmC. I know playing on Human lets you easy mode combos without any other changes, Devil Hunter makes you have to actually input combos instead of button mashing. I don't remember how the fuck to combo properly anymore. At most, my timing will be fine but nothing else.

What mode should I play on, human and then when I'm comfortable go to devil hunter? Or should I practice combos and just start right in devil hunter?

Ok seriously need help, been trying to S rank mission 8 on DH for the last 2 days now, I always get A rank with 4800 or so points. I style S-SSS on every fight and break the bosses crystal both times, barely ever getting hit. What the fuck? How does the style system actually work, when I get into a battle with 2 fucking bug enemys on their own and kill them with a B, my style points popup has less points than it did previously, am I supposed to just walk by those and not fight? or is there some way to get SSS on 2 weak enemies on their own?

R2 (default buster config) once you get the arm back summons the demon hand. If you press it mid attack the hand will throw a punch for extra damage. Try doing that while also going for Max-ACTs and fry your brain, it's a hoot.

What's your specs + performance? Obviously I had to lower pretty much everything to the lowest setting. Also on very rare, random occassions the game would completely freeze for a second or two but those were rare enough that it wasn't really an issue.
