TP was announced without any indication of wolf gameplay or midna as functionally looking like OoT but in HD, which was a strong first impression coming off how most people reacted negatively to WW's artstyle. That impression was so strong that it carried forward beyond the followup trailers that started revealing the actual dumb shit in TP, as well as being a launch game for Wii, made it sell more popularly than it probably really should have.
In retrospect, the game was actually visual diarrhea of gross resolution and poorly colored blurry textures, fucked up orangutan proportioned characters, shitty unpolished gameplay, and an absolute shit tier plot that entirely services a rude domineering naked floating demon toddler cunt rather than making the player feel like they're servicing Princess Zelda or adventuring to service the motives of Link.
In even fuller retrospect, it was the first game in a yet unbroken undying meme of Aonuma facetiously and lazily covering an experimental game with Ocarina of Time visual references (like the Hylian Shield) while trying to scam everyone's nostalgia for OoT.
It was slightly overrated at the time, but currently it is only barely better of a game than the utter 3/10 effort that BotW was, making most praise for it monatrously overrated, though still less overrated than BotW.
Seriously do not care to ever replay TP ever.

Not really. Most of the shit besides magic meter arrows applies to basically every Zelda game before TP. It was fundamentally Zelda tradition. TP does do its own things but thats not really a positive. Its largely experimental and ignorant of whats proven to work and identifies as "Zelda", and much of it ends up simply looking unpolished. Ever since TP, Aonuma has been making shitty indy tier experimental games and covering them a coat of "looks like OoT" to cheat people's nostalgia while shoehorning in his trojan horse dumb game design ideas. The tradition of earlier Zelda was "Zelda is a style of game, and we can just repaint it and redesign the visuals" aka literally what every good and success game series does. Aonuma's approach is instead "Zelda is Ocarina of Time references, and we can just make any oddly designed game and slap those assets on there and then its Zelda", which is basically just fanfiction-tier garbage.

That can be blamed on the Wii being underpowered. WW was very cartoony so they could disguise the system's limitations with flat textures. Realistic art direction always ages like milk.

Personally I was cool with the character designs, it felt like a good compromise on wanting to make a more realistic/dark game while sticking close to the 3D Zelda artstyle. The n64 games could never imitate the artworks for obvious reasons.
