When your characters aren't shit anymore heavy gear becomes pretty important because it has massive DR compared to light and medium gear. Your survivability in heavy armor is massive.

I can take over an entire town by killing the king and all the guards and it amounts to nothing. I don't actually own the town now or can do anything with it. It was just killing random npcs for no purpose

Shek grind combat skills the fastest and can use equipment in all slots, but have a overall combat speed of 0.8 which hinders them a lot. Hive princes can't wear undershirts or boots which kind of sucks but it's not as lethal as not being able to wear a helmet, and they have a combat speed of 1.2 which is the fastest in the game. They don't have any bad stats other than a malus to str gains (which heavy weapons need), but strength isn't overly hard to train so it doesn't matter that much. Princes are probably the better overall option

Helmets are important because getting an unprotected hit to the head is an easy way to get KOd or start dying, and a lot of attacks go for the head (overhead attacks, Beak Thing pecks)

What's a fun place to build a late-game base? I want to get attacked by human enemies without pissing off the nearest major town

the most fun situations come from having the shit beat out of you. stuff like having 5 guys in the desert but 2 are limping and 1 is unconscious. how the fuck do you get to a safe spot to heal as you limp around at 2 mph? or you fuck up and one of your guys gets tossed in prison or slavery. your new adventure is rescuing that guy or if you are solo escaping.

I bought this game a LONG time ago when it was still alpha. There was no sound, hardly any NPCs and when I attempted to make a settlement it was ransacked and my two party members were raped beyond belief. Is it much better now? I'm surprised people actually play this, I had no idea it would become a big deal.

No. Strategy and simulation is my favorite genre, by far. I love RTS', base building, sim, RPGs, and everything alike. Dwarf Fortress and most oldschool RPGs are my alltime favorites.

Yet Rimworld just doesn't do anything for me, nothing clicks. I get bored quickly, and when I try to set a goal to make a good party I just quit the game out of boredom twenty or thirty minutes in.

It would be negligible compared to the armed bandit factions already attacking cities. Any npc that is contrite (unwilling to be freed) or escapes on its own is just going to be re-enslaved anyway. Rebirth itself is constantly fed new slaves when bandits attack holy nation cities.

its a bug that happens if you start a new game when in a game.
you have to start a new game from the menu. if you are playing/die hit escape and start a new game from that then the glitch happens.

Can guards lower your reptuation with a faction for you? After luring some dust bandits into the Shek town the guards started a crusade and have been running outside destroying bandits for days and my relation with dust bandits has gone from about -12 to -66 after killing about 3-6 myself.

I really want to love it, but its just too simplistic, honestly I think most of the game is unfinished and they just gave up and called it released to move on, they took forever to finish this game and their updates were rare and didn't change or add that much considering the time frame.

None of its features are really that deep, and it isnt so much challenging as it is time consuming to get anything done. If you download a shitton of mods it gets a bit better but its still not that fantastic.

You can't finish people on the ground because if that system was in place every single NPC in the game would slaughter you and each other within the first 10 minutes and half of the factions would be wiped out. Instead characters bleed out after a short while if beaten up enough. Essentially, unless you are kidnapped/rescued or enslaved after being beaten unconscious, you will die

you can get unconscious because of enough damage to head, stomach or chest. most of the time you get in recovery coma while your critically damaged part heals, then you get up. you don't always bleed out. of course if you get an arm pulled off, you won't get out of recovery coma.

I played this game a lot and I really like it.

It's a sandbox rpg, regardless of your definition of an rpg, it fits more than most Specially more than JRPGS.

The Great Desert holds a special place in my heart because its where I first spawned and I love the music there. I also like Obedience for lore reasons. It's hard to pick a favourite when the world is an absolute mess.

When you can afford to, buy a shack in a city so you can place beds in there to heal up and have a place to safely research stuff.

I haven't been everywhere yet but I don't think anything is gonna be as cool as fucking Obedience. I've heard some people like to settle in Gut or the Leviathan coast.

Very much so. You'll be weak as shit at first but once you hit 30 and start doing flying kicks you'll be good, and it'll only get better from there as the better you get you get new types of attacks that are faster and more powerful, like a 2 hit combo. Training katana's or a dex based weapon is a good idea though, so you can attack faster.

Mods. Named them Bert. Haven't gotten to try them out yet though. It could easily be overpowered since it's easy to get them but I don't plan on abusing it, my group is big enough now to settle somewhere, we just need a spot and resources.

Early game is grindy because you are worthless. Once you dont die to everything instantly the game opens up. However people grind the wrong shit. They grind money by mining copper cause thats what youtubers do. Then what? youve got cats and can buy good equipment but with good equipment your still going to get your ass beat by 3-10 guys with sticks. All you did was spend 3 hours afk making a rich miner/farmer who cant fight.
Though you could hire mercenaries to do your fighting for you. However your guy has to fight to level up fighting. He needs his ass beatdown to become tougher which will never happen when you run away from every enemy cause you could die.

Someone on a steam review was complaining about how you can't actually beat the other factions completely though, they'll always bounce back so it's a waste of time. True or nah?

The main factions, shek, HN and UC can be destroyed by killing the leaders. The crazy horde factions like fogmen and cannibals cant be killed off for good and if you kill the main factions the unkillable factions tend to move into their old spots.

How is the mod support? Will it be as big as to say, Mount and Blade?

I am particularly interested in mods that completely change the map or drastically improves the game as a whole. This looks like the type of game that can get a lot of these.

Strange design choice. Is the general reception to that feature positive or negative? I wouldn't mind it too much since it always gives you something to push against, but it's a shame it'd be more of a persistent nuisance to make sure you always have someone to fight instead of an endgame challenge to overcome.

I've heard about berserkers assaulting your town if you wipe everyone out but I still have to kill the UC to confirm if thats true. Personally im glad that they at least tried to have the overworld change depending on how you interact with it but I think it needs more content and work done on it to make it a great endgame activity instead of just kind of being there. It has a lot of potential for fun so im sure that if the devs dont bother to enhance it modders will.

Its right at the edge of the south east fogmen territory, if youre running from stack? to mongrel you will probably run through it. Its such a good location, it has all required resources in the crater with copper up the hill a ways with easy to control entrances.

The only downsides are you'll have to listen to people screaming while getting eaten alive in the valley to the north. No matter how many times I send expeditions to clear the camps out they always respawn so eventually I just let people get themselves captured and eaten even if they're only a kilometer away from my town. This has an upside though, if you save people when they've been chewed on a pole they tend to want to sign up with you. This could probably be exploited to get people with decent skills without paying for them. The other downside was sometimes the game's performance slows to a fucking crawl if you've spent too much time in the fog. I have a decent rig so I don't think its me. Rebooting the game seemed to fix it every time though.

I just found out equipping members of different factions with gear that says (colored) in its name changes its color, and putting that gear on a paladin seems to make it black. So now I have a paladin stuck on an outdoor cell with a handful of food in his inventory, all naked and wearing the skins of his fellow holy servants to work as a dye station of sorts

I guess it seems easiest for the first run through. Don't have to feed the skeletons and they make for powerful allies. Between beep and the skeletons any holy nation patrols will always come at you so they become the natural target to eliminate.
