yes it does, why would somebody use such a shitty crt at least get a trinitron

And Smash Melee players.

I was still using one in like 08. Used to rape niggas in modern warfare

>you and your dad will never wrestle one of these heavy cunts through a door while swearing and getting buttmad at each other ever again

Why post a cockroach box?

Anyone have a decent guide on CRT calibration? I got horizontal scrolling to look fine but vertical scrolling stretches like a motherfucker.

Attached: IMG_20190310_142258779.jpg (5344x3006, 3.06M)

That setup looks comfy as fuck, but what in the goddamn is that DIY stand for that LCD?!

The original one was flimsy as hell and broke when my cat knocked it off the table. I had the wall mount but wanted to be able to move it around so I just built a new wall to stick it too. Hence the stand. It's sturdy as fuck and it's handy for plugging stuff in, as the bottom ports are easily accessible.

Yep, CRT's were great.

Attached: CRT_LCD_Doom3rs.jpg (1024x768, 205K)

i was using them in like 2014 i didn't know we were supposed to throw them out

I can always appreciate ingenuity. Hell, my current computer desk isn't a computer desk at all, but I took the slide out keyboard rest off of an old desk I didn't like, measured and cut it to fit and screwed it into it. And my mouse pad is on a drawer that's pulled out and stacked with books inside. Gotta love redneck ingenuity.

Actually it confuses those of us who grew up with the evolution of TVs. Tubes were shit and needed to be replaced. Not all of us buy things based on memes alone. Of course someone your age wouldn't understand the value in upgrades since modern upgrades are getting to the point where they feel insignificant.

OLED soon my brothers

How is it possible that I'm looking at this photo on a crappy LCD and am still able to tell the difference?

>OLED for a desktop computer
enjoy your burn in

I have this

Attached: 1454qm_controls.png (244x385, 20K)

Only hipster zoomers use CRTs

you see black as grey and grey as even more grey.

Smartphones are already OLEDs, why would computer used for media be different

lmao just force a refresh every 20 minutes

OLEDS are being usurped by quantum dot displays.

And how long does a smartphone need to last again?

>about as energy efficient as a fridge
>tiny
>can't play anything new on them cause the text is small and shit
>low res
Why would anybody still use these?

>quantum dot
Isn't this just a marketing name for ordinary Samsung LCD?

Both look like shit. Do you not know that settings menus exist?

30 here, I modded mine for RGB, 2d games looks sharp as fuck. I can't believe I used composite during all my childhood and teenage years.

these weird curved monitors are getting out of hand

basically a must for PS2 and previous gens.

No, I did grow up with them.

>Isn't this just a marketing name for ordinary Samsung LCD?
No: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_dot#Quantum_dot_displays

Early Zoomers took over the Internet and are now posting nostalgia on social media for the 7th gen. Those "if u remmeebr 360 ur childhood wuz awesum" shitposts from 2012 came true. The dream is over.

Attached: p1299918_e_v8_ab.jpg (960x1304, 239K)

They're twice the price of monitors so I'd say at least the same amount of time

Do you buy a new monitor every two years, you fucking idiot?

as someone who has had a burnt in OLED tv repaired after only a few months, he is right, OLED is not suitable for computer use at this time.

Shame, because it's fucking brilliant m8

Do you buy a new smartphone every two years, you fucking idiot?

Let's all gather around this stupid person and laugh, who was tricked by corporations.

>tfw didn't have flat screen TV until 2011
Git gud

MicroLED is our only hope to truly surpass CRT. LCD had no right to artificially obsolete CRT as quickly as it did, as it still to this day has abysmal visual properties in comparison to high end CRT monitors. Yeah, OLED looks gorgeous and COULD replace CRT but it has the worst fucking problem of all: burn out. Can't have ANYTHING static on screen or else it will permanently dim out the pixels over time, having the same effect as burn in.

MicroLED on the other hand is LCD but with self-emitting pixels. This means:
>1ms response times
>CRT-like viewing angles
>0 nit black levels
>4000+ nit white level
>infinite contrast ratio

And of course all the ways LCD actually beats CRT even today, digital image recreation meaning perfectly stable picture with no distortion, no geometry artifacts, no beam convergence color phasing, etc. And of course significantly better physical properties ie - size and weight.

The day will come where eventually this picture is made moot, but for now it is still relevant and CRT still BTFO all LCD.

No, but the average person does. The average person does not buy a monitor every two years.

>bought monitor in 14, 16, & 18
I didn't realize it until you asked, but apparently I do

>No, but the average person does

No, they don't. Not now that phones are no longer subsidized. People have also grown wise to the scam at this point.

Quantum dot's are nanometer scale pieces of semiconductor material that can emit light at a specific wavelength depending on their size. So th way a qdot display produces color is very different to an LCD.

>bought monitor in 14, 16, & 18

Attached: 1544476325019.jpg (569x785, 81K)

If someone buys a smartphone every 2 years he either doesn't buy top ones with OLED or could easily afford upgrading his monitor too.
Besides do you have any examples of smartphone OLEDs burning in after 2 years?

I need a CRT and almost nobody's selling them here rreeeee

that is entirely not true. the average person buys whatever new flagship phone that comes out. that's why apple keeps raising the prices on whatever shitty new iphone comes out because they know people will buy them regardless

I wish I still had a crt but I shattered the display trying to carry it downstairs, I dont care what anyone says those motherfuckers are HEAVY

>he fell for the CRT meme

I'd check any sort of yard sale thats going on, especially from older people

Just religiously check local craigslist every day, you'll probably get them for free. I got two free JVC D-series by doing this for 2 weeks.

That's one of the benefits of PVMemes: Built in handles. Way easier to carry.

No, just an excess of money from not being poor and I like hooking up my family and friends with my old monitors. My mom never wants to go back to one monitor again now that I've set her up. You need to seek mental help if you don't find joy in helping others user.

This, anything over 20" is not worth the hassle.

>that boomer who plays games at less than 4k
its time for your crazy pills grandpa

Smartphones last like 2-3 years tops in most cases, after that they get no security updates, run like ass, and their batteries can't hold a charge
Every Galaxy phone I have had some burn in, usually the most used colours wear out first like blues

Thanks.

Post pics. I'm curious.

I have one still but mine makes such a loud fucking beep. And I don’t know of anyone who knows how to fix a damn CRT

>wastes money and being a beta who gives away his shit to his family who don't even care
>telling others to seek mental health

Nah dude. Your high school in the suburbs doesn't represent "the average person". The average person can barely make rent. Iphone sales cratered last time btw. People have learned to do without.

>Pvm's are bet-

Attached: 2xwl37c3ie111.jpg (4032x3024, 1.57M)

Is there someone that still makes CRTs?

The idea of micro LED's sounds so stupidly simple, why is it only a thing now?

>buy top of the line new phone every 2 years
>20/month
It isn't that expensive compared to other shit. Hell I'm saving money by doing that, cutting out TV bills, and using Kodi.

My dude, PVMs are for weeb faggots.

your just a hipster now at this point

Get a job and seek mental health user. It will change your life for the better

I've had a galaxy s3 for 6 years soon. I've replaced the battery twice and it still works really well. And the batteries were much cheaper than buying a new phone.

I have a friend who paid over $500 for a PVM and he now wants to trade it to me for my 32' I'art.

PVM's are a fucking meme, do not buy that shit unless it's $10. I paid $4.95 for my I'art at goodwill.

Attached: DdDI_RlUwAEWyEo.jpg (1200x900, 142K)

Literally no reason to use one in 2019.
LCDs finally caught up.

What size of CRT would be the best for PS1/PS2 era console games?

>I have a friend who paid over $500 for a PVM

the power of self suggestion is so amazing

there is no real value in playing old games on crt compared to lcd, and a whole generation of people are absolutley obsessed with it.

Back when there wasn't anything but CRT, we couldn't fucking *wait* to get away from CRT forever and never see one again.

Anything up to 36'. I've been playing FF7, Einhander and Medievil on my 32' lately and it's a fucking blast.

>using a 6 year old phone in 2019
Enjoy getting exploited by literally everything

Yeah dude haha everyone but us reddit users is retarded.

Wow dude who would have thought that CRT's would have been so useless now, wow.

Have you heard the new news about Tekashi 6ix9ine?

It's a really sad story, I bet he uses LCD's too.

Attached: 1Nhk.gif (499x352, 530K)

I use one because I just simply like the big ass box TVs for older games. I think thats true for most that still own one, its just that old school feel

Thank fucking christ, he was a huge fucking asshole

Good thing I don't install any new apps. I only use the browser and whatsapp anyway.

Which CRT is the most cockroach resistant?

Oh, I hit close to home, huh. :(

The one in a clean house.

Hard to find professional CRTs under 20" in the classifieds though. The smaller ones are mostly consumer models with crappy refresh rate and bandwidth and large pixel pitch. All the high end Iiyamas and Eizos and Sonys and NECs are 21" or 22" nominally (~20" viewable), and they can do crazy stuff like 1600x1200 at 110 Hz in some cases.

Attached: kccce3ubr2521.png (1512x2016, 3.36M)

My friends and I were playing his old N64 on a modern TV last night. I don't remember the framerate being so awful on every game.
Was this the modern TV fucking up it's frames?

>fu-fuck... hew knew I was from redd*t...
>what do I do....
>I got it. Take undeserved smug superiority while begging the question that people who visit different websites don't actually have differences in opinions or personalities.
>then ill end this absolutely abhorent post with a super meta ironic passive aggressive emoticon.
>this is not at all a reddit tier response and I am in no way validating my opponent by hitting post

Attached: aminay is saved.jpg (478x471, 17K)

Doesn't really make sense for that to happen. I think you just forgot how bad framerates were in some games.

What's wrong with PVMs? I got three of them (two 14 inch and one 20 inch) for ~$30 and they look better than consumer sets I had and still own.

No, N64 games usually ran like ass
OoT targeted 20fps but frequently fell down to 15fps, and sometimes even lower when things got really hektic

You don't understand how the figure of speech "begging the question" is used.

that is pretty goddamn hot. bogpill me on the i'Arts. aperture grille or shadow mask? better than your average example of either? i have a 480i flatscreen Trinitron (KV-32FV310) that I'm pretty happy with

>The faggots who say DKC's visuals aged poorly compared to other games
>Because they play it at non-native res on an LCD
This hobby is so full of brainlets

Attached: 1537058677901.jpg (1114x614, 223K)

No, like every game ran at 15 fps on the N64. Thats the one thing you can't really blame on a modern tv in terms of games looking like ass.

what's the best CRT out there?

One thing I kept thinking about last night was, "How in the fuck did we play this on a 19 inch TV
20 years ago."

begging the question isn't a figure of speech, its a fallacy you fucking retard. Get off my board and go back to r/gaming before I bend you over and fuck your cornhole.

left looks infinitely better than right

it's so amusing watching this self-brainwashing

DKC graphics didn't have to age poorly they were horrendous on launch. Phong shading mapped to 256 colors doesn't work.

Imagine being the autist that keeps making these threads.

I nearly died by CRT one time, user, don't make me come over there

no they actually just run like ass. OoT and Paper Mario in particular ran pretty poorly in some areas. when you were young and your world hadn't been dragged down into ruin with the rest of miserable adults, and when 3D environments and games were a new frontier exploding into the world of video games, framerates that we today couldn't even imagine as being anywhere near playable were in fact often times the standard, and aside from a few scenarios where they actually were borderline unplayable (I think Perfect Dark comes to mind), most people just adjusted to it and enjoyed the game regardless.

i'Arts have the single best consumer grade shadow mask available. Tweaking the Gamma to about double in the settings make it look amazing, like the shit is going to jump out of the screen.

I have a 32' and a 26' and I wouldn't part with them for anything less than several hundred dollars. Not to mention they all have multiple component, S-Video and audio out support.

Attached: photo_2019-02-20_14-28-09.jpg (960x1280, 250K)

>shadow-mask crt
yeah I'm angry too

>begging the question isn't a figure of speech, its a fallacy you fucking retard

what? holy shit

>an lcd from over 10 years ago sucks
Shocking.

>The thing is doc, all these stupid fucking kids, why didn't they grow up with MY experience! MY childhood! MY games, MY movies, MY culture!

poor attempt at damage control. Anyone who thinks that the pixel soup on the left is better than the actually defined image on the right has brain damage. You're cognizant enough to type out bullshit posts so I assume you're just being dishonest because you have some dumb personal stake in what kind of display people use

Projection is an over used buzzword but you seem to have some family issues my friend

How do people feel about CRT filters?

Attached: alundra.jpg (1272x953, 622K)

They'll never match the real thing to me, not even OLEDs with shaders will ever match the real thing because they're still fixed-pixel displays, but if they do the trick for you personally then go for it. I can always tell a filter from a CRT though

>I'art
Weight 187 lbs.
Holy fuck nigger

>want to buy one to build a DIY arcade cabinet
>the big good ones are +30 euros
The end is near, the age of CTR resellers is approaching

Attached: 1542156054876.gif (192x197, 87K)

Yep, it doesn't help that it comes with a 20lb auto balance ring (which means hardly any geometry issues) and a custom 15lb degauss ring made by JVC. Not to mention the Shadow mask is also custom by JVC and is literally a plate of metal.

But gullible zoomers are the only people who use CRTs now.

How about a comparison picture with the lights on and an at least semi modern LCD.

Attached: 1548433406961.jpg (800x449, 55K)

I stopped using CRT filters and started trying to go for just a simple NTSC cable look.

>Approaching
My local marketplace listings had some stupid thot trying to sell a garbo composite-only 13" VCR combo TV for $80. These people hear about the niche gaming market for the things and think any old busted up piece of junk they have lying around might as well be gold, buckle up friend

Yeah, instead we swear and yell at each other while struggling to move massive metal cabinets around because he REALLY NEEDS that all metal cabinet in that room instead of the one it was in before, why the fuck do you need me to come to your house just to move some stupid cabinet into the room right next to it, even though its 100 times more useful where it was, like what the fuck dad?

$80
Jesus fuck

For what it's worth I don't regret my OLED at all. Paired with an OSSC 240p looks great. I'm interested to see where the tech goes, as well as QLED.

Attached: f.jpg (1123x800, 512K)

they look really stupid on a CRT display

That wasn't unusual. I think CRTs died off in like 2011.

I used a crt for the longest time. I remember I played skyrim on the 360 with pic related

Attached: A3D86507-9947-40EC-8A70-9CA13D83CDB0.jpg (580x387, 34K)

>build a DIY arcade cabinet
please kill yourself.

Jokes on you, I was stuck using CRTs until 2013

actually that’s not a crt it’s a rear projector tv

And thank god they did. Back up to 2014 my family had a big ass TV that had early HDMI stuff and weighed as much as two people, but was still mostly a souped up CRT at heart that was burning out. Took me and my dad to toss it out for a much smaller HDMI TV that basically gave the exact same screen estate but at far, far less hassle.
That was the last TV we moved since he was in stage 4 cancer and we didn't know at the time.

>being a salty old fart instead of playing with the next gen of kids

Want to know how you don't like video games?

Fuck

CRTbros, don't respond to any of the shitposters ITT trying to talk down how good CRTs are for older games. If they successfully push the narrative that CRTs are completely obsolete maybe the market will get better

Yeah, god forbid me for enjoying things.

Attached: 1548276581024.jpg (1024x724, 88K)

I never understood why people are fond/nostalgic of the things. I never looked back.

They were heavy as fuck, had that annoying high-pitched tone in the background, and consumed power like a mother fucker. And that's not mentioning just how many have those waning curves off the screen.

Dude that's a rear projection TV, those things are junk

Except for how heavy they are these are all bonuses for me. I like the whine, I like the glossy curved screens, I like just how much you can alter and manipulate the image. Love the pure physical nature of analog tech, fucking hate digital

I dont even want to think about having to move one of those fuckers

It's empty inside and the front is all plastic so they're really light

i own a qled and im gonna give you a big nope on that one.

oled still has superior black levels, however qled is still pretty impressive and doesnt have any burn in qled is pretty close though and has accurate color too

Are there people really limiting their fun, because the era passed? You actually just sit there and complain that kids aren't playing what you're playing? Fun fact, kids might actually be interested in what you like, if you give them the time and patience. They're always curious.

What monitor should I use if I sit next to the screen and don't want to fuck my eyes up?

CRTs seem pretty uncomfortable for a PC set up and desk

Block these dumb niggers, shame them at every chance you get.

>And thank god they did.
Kill yourself, faggot, zoomer.

>That light reflection destroying the flat screen by being 10 times bigger, spreading to half the screen
>your image is being displayed on LCDs for whoever is watching, making screen on right have the same color depth as the cheap flat LCD of whoever is seeing the pic right now
>The picture chosen is a flat color with no variety to hide the difference perfectly
>Conveniently poor photography is destroying the blacks in the picture, making the flat lcd look more black than the CRT, a physical impossibility in real life

Pathetic. Frankly, i hope zoomers never realize the worth of CRTs. Their gen is incapable of doing anything of worth with that knowledge.

>I'art.
Never heard that brand that shit good?

>Kill yourself, faggot, zoomer.
What are you, a manchild?

i'Art is a series of TV's made by JVC, and yes, they are better than PVMs.

>he thinks crts have better colors than modern panels

jesus christ i own a trinitron and i still think you are mentally ill.

also in my dark office my va panel has the exact same black levels as the trinitron

>six years ago
>paid $5 for an old TV
>last year
>can't throw it in the dumpster
>most recycling places will not take them, for any price
>finally found a place willing to take my money to take it
>paid $80 to have it hauled away when it failed
Unless you're willing to pay out the time and money to dispose of it, don't bother. Know what kind of burden you're acquiring along with the TV.

And probably draft a copypasta explaining why you like those things, and why you'd like to share them. At least there's some semblance of hope and self-awareness in realizing that some of the earliest in consoleshit like Wii Sports and COD: MW2 (not BO2, while I personally love the game fuck it and its DLC practices) are worth having nostalgia over. When the nostalgiafags over Fortnite and Apex Legends pop up, that's when we, or I, will have to intervene and shit on them for being complete mega-homosexuals.

I use to play 4 player halo on a screen 5 times smaller than that. I cannot fathom doing that today though. Stupid fucking zoomers are so privileged and they don’t even know it.

>tfw my dad and I get at each other’s throats trying to move a giant mirror cabinet, from the garage, into my room because mum thought it would look better there, only for her to change her mind when we finished.

one time I drove to a hood at night and loaded my big ass crt onto the sidewalk and drove off. Someone could have it or it could rot, i didnt care.

Just throw it in a lake lmao

Nice, there should be a list of all the good CRTs that are worth having.

Lmao whatever grandpa, you stay mad while I play Fortnite with all the cute girls on my 4k screen with surround system

CRTs will become even more valuable when streaming comes and most people who play video game say fuck it and go back to play all those good games.

Fuck the world
based user

Personally I think anything that runs in 240p or 480i works better on a CRT, for multiple reasons.
>low signal quality is less noticeable
>interlaced video doesn't look like shit
>resolution switching games like Chrono Cross run without issue
>lightgun games work
This is coming from an original-hardwarefag, I'm sure emulators have more solutions to this. I just keep a small CRT around for 3rd-6th gen and a big modern screen for anything newer.

>>lightgun games work
The actual best reason to have a crt

I know this feel, but for my grandmother.
>grandma wants cabinet with nice glass doors upstairs on second floor
>things heavy as shit
>grandpa can't help due to being old and weak
>dad and I get the damn thing through the garage, up two flights of stairs, and get it right where she wants it at
>"oh, it doesn't look as good as I thought, maybe it will look better downstairs"
>have to carry it down both flight of stairs again
>all the while me and dad are bitching at each other

>trinitron

Only to speedrunner types and technophiles. No one else will care and will play mariokart 64 that they picked up at a flea market on a 50 inch hd tv.

Your belief contradicts science and technology. CRT has real blacks. Today even the best IPS screens don't have the same depth of blacks. The color depth itself is dependent on other factors and it would be pointless to argue, because proving a general superiority of one technology over the other in the field would be exceeding difficult. Any artist or anyone who works in graphics can tell you that richer blacks increase the richness of perceived color. It's like that blue dress-white dress meme. Color perception is relative on the color composition on screen.

I own an IPS designed for dedicated graphics use and a run of the mill Trinitron. At close range, the color gamut of the IPS is obviously superior and higher detail is achieved, however at higher viewing distances or especially at low resolutions the trend inverts. (An even more startling effect can be achieved by displaying high res pictures scaled down on the Trinitron: at high viewing distance the deeper blacks are a net improvement on the perceived picture quality, let alone the viewing angle.)

Pointless to discuss image quality, as both images are being viewed on an LCD right now. However look at the hat. On left you can clearly see pixels between the shadow and light zones. On the right the colors blend into each other. The same effect is even better visible on the hair. There is no loss of detail between the two pictures, just a net improvement of the rendering.

Clinical retardation

The Chad CRT
>inarguably superior image quality
>little if any input lag
>capable of many different resolutions with no noticeable drop in quality
>big, strong and alpha as fuck. demands you to respect it's space
>inevitably ancient and therefore much wiser
>emits a high pitched whine that immediately gives weak LCDfags permanent tinnitus
>kills cancer cells with built-in radiation therapy, putting chemo patient LCDfags on suicide watch

The virgin LCD
>beta nu-male sleek design
>blacks are shit. so are the blacks on an LCD
>tries desperately to support its native resolution well, but it still looks better non-natively on the Chad CRT
>zoomers choice, like fortnite or tide pods
>emits no noise at all, just sits in the corner of your room silently like a cuck
>enjoys being a 1ms or more behind realtime, getting owned at every competitive game where a CRT Chad is present
>soon to be obsolete when CRT Chads overthrow the industry once again

i spent most of my life playing in one of those, actually

except crts absolutely do not have a true black level in the real world. even in what i consider a dark room the black level is elevated by literallyany ambient light

I played fallout 3 on one of those
total garbage display

>2020
>Still no MicroLED
>Shills still trying to convince me to buy a 2009 IPS panel disguised as a new monitor

A simple bilinear filtering is better. It blurs the enough to make low res pixels look good
