We all know what the worst witness gimmicks are, but what about the best ones? Post good witness gimmicks, especially ones you rarely see.

I don't know if it's exactly a gimmick, but I'm a fan of witnesses who lie because their trying to hide the shame of their unrelated retardation

Well, this one is pretty fucking debated. But if goes naturally, then I do like rare occasions of Direct Examinations. Most recently, two were caused because a multiwit was lying to cover for the defendant, and confessed falsely. Adds a bit more depth to the prosecutor's duty other than "sit and wall", usually.

A good witness gimmick that is rarely seen? That would be not being an avatarfag, picking a character that actually fits the case's theme, having a non-eccentric personality with a non-meme occupation and giving a normal testimony of reasonable size (6 - 12 statements) with a good non-interwitness contradiction that leads to a new perspective on how the murder took place. And it's even better when the testimony has collateral worldbuilding without being forced or too in-your-face lore time.
Other than that, I guess I like witnesses who actually answer the questions decisively, without beating around the bush, saying "I don't remember" or giving ambiguous replies.

Write down everything, compare each line from the witness to the evidence, and here is something most people forget to do: when pointing contradictions, do not forget to explain what they change. Put up your own explanation in which the defendant didn't do it or something that requires a new witness.

Depends on the format. 90% of the time you'll be playing improv, where the case is created while waiting for players to join the match. So you create a basic premise, put down evidence and profiles, then the witnesses work with it from there on the spot. Around once per week someone will host a pre-written in which one person, who will be playing as all witnesses, wrote the entire murder, including all testimonies, before hosting.

I like the second option as long as it's handled well, though the first option sounds like it could be funny as fuck. I will bookmark this.

Most of the cases are the first option, improv is more popular on the server.

The reasons for this vary from person to person, but in my experience the most outrageous and amazing things can arise from improv that pre-writs simply can't hope to match.

Actually, everyone will tell you to do improvs, but that's because only improvs are ever played in the server, and their entire opinion about pre-writtens was formed out of hatred for the few players that hosted them. See talking out of his ass since both formats have the same potential for amazing things, and pre-writtens can deal with complex crimes more easily because of how all witnesses are in sync for being played by the same person. Though I will admit that when playing pre-writtens you are unlikely to come a cross a wit1 multi-wit composed of nazi generals spamming Google translated german phrases, so that poster was right if that is what they meant when they said you won't find amazing things in pre-writtens. So yes, take their input with a lot of salt and try all formats yourself if you do get the opportunity. There are others too like true improv which is 100% roleplay. But you likely won't find any AA case formats other than improv since they are mostly dead.
