The base game is Pokémon, and that will always get a pass, but if you look past the shit models and weak remixes, you'll notice LESS content than the remake that came out years ago. I think most people remember fondly on HGSS as the pinnacle of Pokemon remakes and were hoping to get something similar in ORAS. With the disappointment with that game, they're pinning their hopes on the DP remakes on the Switch to recapture some of that magic. With Nu-Gamefreak, though, I won't be holding my breath.

On the other hand, pretty much every single time the Gen 4 plot has been referenced, it referenced Platinum.

I get the feeling that that particular event is liked by Masada or something.
I imagine the plot will go similar to platinum, with him summoning Dialga or Palkia, only to be stopped by Giratina and dragged off, leaving you to deal with whatever legendary was summoned.
You go to the distortion world in the post game, and deal with Giratina and Cyrus, and maybe Arceus is involved somehow, like Deoxys with the Delta episode.
That's what I'm hoping at least.

another part of it is the people who love these games usually hadn't played a pokemon game before them and it's blinded them to the issues that weren't present in past AND future games.
if platinum was the first game in the series, it would've been phenomenal and on its own I'm sure its more than passable.
but with tons of other, better pokemon games all the sinnoh games feel pointless especially when HGSS came out in the middle of them

That's my big issue with people dissing on Gen 4, that surely most of them didn't even play it when DP were released. The games surely had their flaws but the changes they brought were amazing overall and nothing in the series can replicate experiencing Pokemon online for the first time.
Meanwhile Platinum took the originals, fixed many of the flaws, expanded the Pokedex tenfold, increased the difficulty and gave us even more to explore, it actually felt like the ultimate experience the devs wanted to deliver up to that point. I've played Pokemon since Yellow and Platinum is the game I look upon the fondest, it's a perfectly tight experience while still remaining that sense of adventure that has been lost since the 3DS era began.

I loved D/P as well, not because they had the best region like you said, some areas were boring slogs and a lot of the game was forgettable. What I did love about it was the phys / spec split which gave hundreds of mons STAB moves that didn't have them before, plus the new interesting hold items, plus the online. You can really tell it was the first Pokemon game that out of the box, a player could make a professional team with only resources availiable in-game.I put around 500 hours into my Diamond file, bred and traded about 50-60 IV bred EV trained competitive ready mons, and I had hundreds of unforgettable battles. No Pokemon game will capture that feeling again.

I think why I don't have the same fondness is because everything new brought to the table could've been worked into any region like online.
that sense of adventure is there in sinnoh but it feels like a copy and paste of the last three generations. I couldn't find anything new or sinnoh specific that kept me coming back for more.
there is a ton of potential though and even if we got a half assed remake like ORAS I would love to give this region another shot

I spent over 800 hours on my Diamond cart until it unfortunately was stolen. I had never had this amount of fun with a Pokemon game before and Platinum only expanded it even further. Competitive was always the best it has ever been, with a properly estabilished metagame that allowed you to experiment and build teams in so many different ways without getting stuck with the same smogonshit as nowadays. Being able to win tournaments with my favorite Pokemon was such a nice feeling.
Also, I know is an unpopular opinion, but I absolutely love almost all of the new Pokemon and evolutions introduced in Gen 4. Weavile, Roserade, Poygon-Z, Garchomp and many others were amazing Pokemon with amazing designs. To the day, Weavile remains along Jolteon as my absolute bro and I'd never take mine out of my team.

Debatable. Early it serves as the division between the region or to cross to a different route and you stay there only for like a minute just to cross to the other side, while later it serves as the main dungeon as you chase Galactic to the top of the mountain. It's fitting. I agree about the overuse of HMs though.

We're opposites in that regard then lol. I love Gen 3 but only like a handful in Gen 4. I mean I did love the team I had but if I ever replay it/remake is released I can't see myself deviating from that team.
I also can't for the life of me remember half the gym leaders/elite 4 in that game.
