I can't play this. I can't quite put my finger on it but nothing feels right. It feels like I'm playing a game that only looks like an RPG. I can't describe the feeling but something is very off about this game, it feels like it was made solely to take screenshots and look at things then when you actually try to interact with the world in the ways you expect the world reveals itself to be very shallow. I don't know what this game is. It's like an RPG for people who hate RPGs.

Every NPC seems to only have 2 lines of dialogue each, some of them don't even have names and the largest city has around 10 houses in it, I've played Morrowind and it was huge and full of dialogue, what the fuck happened to this series I'm so confused.

Its an ARPG user.
Adapt or move on gramps.

thats literally how i feel about fallout 4. I recently tried playing it after a year and i just couldnt get into it

The game is literally worthless without mods

Amazing blog post faggot.
Stop trying too hard to fit in here.

youre a couple years late bro
just wait until the next game

NPCs in Morrowind suck

SEETHING Skyrim babby detected

There's a word for it, it's shit
>It's like an RPG for people who hate RPGs.
welcome to the modern game design 101
this is how every AAA game is made, a game for people who don't play games
take 1 part of shitty narrative/story, 1 part of flashy graphix sprinkled with shitty post processing, stitch together with some pathetic generic gameplay afterwards

Skyrim is just the framework for Enderal

A great many things in Morrowind sucked.
The trope "The first TES you play is the best" holds true.
Add in nostalgia goggles and old timers genuflect before they talk about Morrowind.

Kinda sad in a way.

I played Oblivion first in 2006, played it for years and loved it, Then Skyrim in 2011, it sucked ass and was very dubed down in every way. I tried Morrowind in 2014 and it is BY FAR the best game in the series and still play it till this day. What now faggot?

and yet it's somehow still better than all RPGs released after it.

Mods make it better

Not even slightly close to even being an RPG so no.

how would you define a RPG?

Yeah pretty much, you have to mod it a fuckin lot, then it's really enjoyable. It's for when you don't really feel like thinking and just relaxing. Just accept it for what it is, it's for a certain time and place

Your inability to appreciate a good game might actually mean that you have a case of depression

It's a sandbox. It's fun as a sandbox. Especially with mods. This is post-Morrowind Bethesda, what else did you expect. Even Morrowind was rightfully criticized for what marketers call streamlining today.

>ARPG
>A
This shitty excuse can be slapped on anything. Oh, look, in DOOM you have a PROGRESSION of gaining weapons! And in a non-linear fashion, even. Surely it's ARPG now!
But wait! It also has HP and armor that can be gained beyond the normal maximum. Choosing to either maximize the extras or playing fast and loose is STRATEGY! Not to mention whether you conserve ammo or go guns blazing. So DOOM is ARTS now too!

you just described every Bethesda """RPG"""" made since Morrowind
they are all just open world explortion games masqueraded as RPGs

I love good games, this is not a good game at all. If you think it is explain why or get the fuck out.

>anecdotal evidence

not that guy but you didn't explain anything yourself, just a vague statement that summarises to:
>I don't like this game because it's not an RPG according to my unstated opinion on what is and isn't an RPG.

yeah it's called having good taste. the quests suck ass and almost all of the dungeons are too short and linear. try Oblivion with mods instead.

I can't bring myself to pay 20 bucks for a 10 year old game when two year old games are five bucks
fuck that

But Morrowind is a real RPG, if you don't have certain skills or attributes certain tasks are impossible. Also has some real choice e.g. you can only join one great house then the other 2 are forever inaccessible as that character. If you are in 2 guilds that both hate each other both guilds will end up disliking you. Skyrim is THE most dumbed down shit, its just not deniable. Morrowind came after a 2d game, obviously there were real reasons for streamlining some of the features beause it just physically wasn't possible anymore to have a game map the size of Great Britain. Skyrim dumbs things down for no reason other than to appeal to casuals.

Post I replied to was a biased anecdotal blanket statement of pure projection.

sorry for my poor phrasing
I'm not shitting on morrowind

They are a product of their time. They couldn't make 1000 unique npcs with daily routines back then because of several limitations. They was nothing stopping them from making Skyrim larger, with larger cities and more npcs who all have their little schedule to follow and some lines about random stuff so they dont just repeat the same 3 sentences every 5 minutes. They simply didnt want to put any more work into it because it literally doesnt matter, people will buy it anyways

>get quest to steal something from mage's guild
>no matter how you enter the guild you are always automatically detected and attacked by the scripted guard, your stealth or planning skills do not matter
>even if you teleport in through an npc or recall you are automatically detected because it's scripted, your build is not taken into account ever other than having the ability to open the locked container with the thing you need to steal
>even if you're in the mage guild or the leader of it the mage guild guard will still automatically detect you and attack you
This one thing always stuck to me as Morrowind completely failing as a role playing game.

Have you considered it's just a shit game?
>It's like an RPG for people who hate RPGs.
Pretty much spot on. That's how it sold so well. Genius of Todd I guess.

>one scripted quest vs the entire game of skyrim being like that

Can't think of any other instances like that in Morrowind, can't even work out how you'd fail so badly. Create a chameleon spell, create a calm spell or raise sneak high enough to actually be undetected. Sounds like you're mad that the guard plays his role in this role playing world and you can't manipulate every npc as you want so you see it as a bad thing, it's actually what makes an RPG good. Role playing is thinking your way out of the situation smartly.

That is basically every event ever in Skyrim. You have no choice, no consequence and nothing you do matters.

The fun of skyrim is exploring the sandbox, like mount and blade but with quests and dungeons instead of armies sieging fortresses

>Sounds like you're mad that the guard plays his role in this role playing world and you can't manipulate every npc as you want so you see it as a bad thing, it's actually what makes an RPG good. Role playing is thinking your way out of the situation smartly.
i was disappointed that my role in the mage's guild was not taken into account for a quest about infiltrating the mage's guild, and that a mage's guild npc would break the guild rules by attacking me for no reason. i was disappointed that my stealth skill was not taken into account at all in a quest that could have and should have accommodated stealth. throughout the multiple playthroughs i always had the feeling that my build didn't really matter outside of meeting requirements for guild promotions. i don't recall very many quests where i was actually given any choices with consequences either. fighter's guild and thieve's guild conflicting is the only major one i can think of.

it's not fun because there's no progression. everything is autoleveled, no unique stuff, everything is just +20% damage etc. And the story is so bad like it was made for actual 12yo kids. Same goes for Fallout 4.

>It's like an RPG for people who hate RPGs.
No shit.
The game was made with appealing to normalfag brainlets in mind. Bethesda made the game to appeal to the lowest common denominator while still advertising itself as an RPG.

>you now understand that these guilds are not supposed to mesh and they intentionally make you pick one over the other for loyalties ultimately if you want to rise to the top of either. Your mistake is trying to play like its skyrim, you're not supposed to be guildmaster of several guilds at once especially when the guilds are at odds. Same thing happens with Fighters guild and thieves guild and mages guild and Telvanni, you are supposed to pick a faction or always remain a footman.

Dude if you think this isn't an RPG wait til you play Fallout 4

i wasn't even the guild leader, i was just some asshole associate, but even that should have given me some leeway or disposition bonus with mage's guild npcs. they also went out of their way to script the npc so that it automatically detects you and becomes hostile no matter how you enter the guild, so they went out of their way to remove stealth as an option in the thieve's guild. this is typical bethesda bullshit game design that has never changed in any of the new elder scrolls or fallout games.

they would cut all the lore out like with fallout 3 then, it's still got some lore in it, some of it
morrowind tier good.

Are there any actualy good role playing games that's in first person? I played new vegas and loved it but now im burnt out and need something new
