is it worth it to buy a ps2 in 2019? I kinda want to, never had it growing up. I want to get it as a party console since it has great lineup of co op games, and to play classics I never played.
Is it worth it to buy a ps2 in 2019? I kinda want to, never had it growing up...
buy ps3 fat and mod it
now you have both ps2 and ps3 games for free
I'm not autistic enough to do that
>put things into sd card
wow so hard
Ps2 was unironically the worst party system that gen. Awful taste
t. nintendo baby
Ps2 had the GTA games when they were new big sellers at the time
Terrible bait
go play super monkey ball while I play jak and daxter
does ps2 work well on modern tv's? I have a 4k tv. Or should I just wait for PS5 if it has backwards compability for 1 - 4
ps2 had some monkey ball games iirc
It depends on your TV's inputs. Component looks /fine/ on HD+ tvs, but your best bet if you can swing it is a decent CRT with either component or Svideo input.
But yeah, it honestly doesn't matter what screen you play it on. The PS2 is good everywhere.
It's pretty damn cheap even considering ebay prices. Take in account softmodding and you can basically have the entire library at your fingertips.
Definitely worth it. Even if you don't plan to mod it. Games are cheap as dirt and new-old-stock can be had for even less than new in some cases.
GTA Liberty City and Ratchet & Clank are good games.
Xbox>GC>ps2
did it?
huh. looks like deluxe was for the ps2
never played it
It depends on what you want to do.
If you want to be a goodie two shoes and do everything legally a FAT PS3 is the ultimate since it natively supports backwards compatibility for all previous Playstations since it has the Emotion Engine to hardware emulate the PS2 and the Cell Processor emulates the PS1 in software more.
However if you want to do homebrew and just play PS2 games I would'nt recommend the first option as there are still many compatibility issues playing backups on homebrew
Is it really that simple?
>Spent an hour digging through my boxes trying to find my silver slim PS2 before realizing I must have accidentally given it to Goodwill when I was donating boxes of games and movies
I bet I made that autist's day who took my stuff in, probably took the PS2 and all the rare PS2 games home that day without a second thought of putting them on the shelves, god damnit. I still have my softmodded PS2 with an HDD but I really wanted to use the slim for the aesthetic.
the ps5 will be backwards compatible with everything going back to ps1. Just wait for that
hey man you think that's bad I had original shit like Tomba which is worth my monthly salary now.
I was really disapointed when I found out my modchipped fat PS2 doesn't work with FreeMcboot. I wonder if FreeHDboot works but I haven't tried it.
It's weird since I live in a PAL region and it was NTSC-UC which my dad got off of a friend. I played so many weird English patched JRPGs back in the day....
Now I just have a stock fat PS2 and use FreeMcboot with a SATA HD
OP here, just ordered one for 40 bucks
Get a memory card with FreeMcBoot and you're golden.
also, what are the best PS2 fighting games? I was looking at gameplay from Pride FC and I need to get it
Fat or slim?
slim
shit tier bait
Tbh, PS2 was great (like all the others of that generation honestly; really the last great gaming generation) but aside rare gems like DMC3 and Okami, its library was largely just "good"; it had consistent quality but peaked less often.
Which is pretty much the opposite of what I'd say for the Dreamcast which had a small but amazing library, or the Xbox which had the best multiplats of any of the consoles that gen and a number of really neat one-off games and golden age sega sequels that never saw further iterations beyond the original xbox.
pcsx2 honey
You can try the popular ones like
DBZ BT3
Tekken 5
Maybe you get like the KoF one
MK Armageddon wasn't that bad although a lot of people say Shaolin Monks Is better
A hacked ps2 with 80+ games. Seriously tho. A ps2 is definitely worth it.
all fat ps2s are compatible with free mcboot. Did the modchip fuck up compatibility?
PS2 is kino go play persona 3
how to get this
i dont play weebshit
Yes, but only if you mod it to play games off a HDD.
PS2 emulation still sucks and anybody who tells you otherwise has only played AAA or well known games on it.
Reminder that if you pirate your games and run it via softmod RUN THEM VIA HDD NOT USB. This makes the fat PS2 the only option, as it has the internal HDD bay and network adapter (you can also run games over the network). If you plan to run games via HDD and not connect to the internet you can get a bootleg HDD connecter on eBay for less than 10 bucks.
Also some games suffer issues. GTA San Andreas suffering slowdown comes to mind.
Buy a hacked ps2 mcfreeboot memory card and a ethernet cable.
You could probably run an emulator instead.
you will get much more than a party system. The best system for survival horrors and jrpg games and then some.
Am I the only one burning DVDs? Never bothered to softmod my PS2.
Make sure you get the Timesplitters games! Still my favourite FPS series.
you know the ones that support ps2 w/ hardware are long since dead?
what is the trick in getting the gsm tool working with opl? I want to play the king of fighters games in 480p but there is no output past the opening logos when using the HDTV 480p mode.
and the logos look all messed up.
is this guy a bot?
>got ps2 with MGS3 Substance shortly after MGS3O was shutdown
>end up selling it a while later
>get better job
>get fat PS2 with MGS collection, network adapter, internal HDD, use friends modchipped PS2 to install FreeMcBoot on a spare memory card
>load HDD with bunch some games I want to play
>Warriors, Simpsons Hit and Run, Twisted Metal Black, Red Dead Revolver
>play through each once, get bored with console
>end up selling the entire setup to a coworker
The only PS2 game I have much interest in is RE:Outbreak, and you can play that online through emulation anyways.
