Also what hope is there for half life 3?
What's his endgame?

Did you just finish?
sorry buddy. join the sorrowful wait to play a mod that will hopefully capture the spirit of what the third game could have been.
Gaben still can't count to 3.
Destroying life in the galaxy and supplanting them all with fern-based lifeforms.
I'm watching a fat man replay it
based and greekgodpilled
>youtube.com
>Gabe hasn't directed the office actively in years
>He just plays Dota games
That should give you all the indication you need.

We'll never know. Your life will be much easier if you start accepting this fact now.
From the information given by the games he is probably an alien using a human disguise. He works for some kind of overlord like organization that works for the highest bidder who are obliviously interested in Earth and Xen. They recruit agents on the ground through the G man and then try to combat the Combine in a way. They let the combine go to earth on purpose to wipe out most of humanity and then help Freeman in order to keep legitimacy with the humans when their goal is almost exactly the same as the Combine, just more subversive. Plan goes to shit due to intervention of the Vortigaunts.
I'm not sure if G-man is actively against the combine, or if its just whoever purchased Gordon's services for HL2.
Breen mentions that his contract was up 'to the highest bidder', so maybe the combine could've bought the contract and just had Gordon killing off things like the Nihilanth so they could invade more places
No not actively, it is just that whoever is in charge of Freemans contract wants the combine off earth. And they have been planning it for a long time, even before black mesa was founded as you can see in Portal and the fact that they recruited Alyx and her dad.
Also G man gave the crystal to Breen.
It is also probable that the Combine dont know about the organization behind Gman. I personally think that organization wants to use Freeman as a proxy ruler for Humanity, while they let the Combine do the hard work and be the boogeyman.
However the Vortigaunts seem to be intervening since episode 1
>the highest bidder
I've been wondering for a long LONG time now, fuck you Gabe what exactly an entity like the G-man, or whatever he represents, values enough to accept as payment for their (or Freeman's) services.
Because it sure as fuck can't be dollars or resources.
Father georgia is from ravenholm you fucking bell.
Its the mystery that makes his character great, let the mystery be
meta power, control of planets and its organisms, an unheard of currency in the form of pure energy to fight the inevitable entropy of the universe?
Perhaps. But apparently the human rebels won the bid, and they don't seem like the sort to possess such things.
Though they may have mysterious benefactors who do.
Or maybe the game is all a game to the G-man too, and he's just pulling strings for the lulz.
Or maybe there is a power struggle in the true combine leadership and gman was hired by the ones trying to do a coup.
The expectations for a potential HL3 are now infinite. Therefore, no matter what they do, it will be a infinite disappointment. At least, by not releasing it they keep the meme alive and get attention.
Anyone else think that Gaben is specifically AGAINST HL3 being developed and that when he dies, they may actually be able to release it?
That or fucking Steam gets hammered hard enough by the newer distribution platforms that are inevitably popping up.
Half Life 3 already came out. It was so good that it consumed the lives of everyone that played it, and many people were literally dying as a result of the game. The game was so intimately linked with the real world that it included a time traveling crossover mechanic. In the game's latter days a small alliance of us gained control of the in game/real world device and used it to erase the game itself from the past. So far as I know, other those of us in that alliance can remember. Lost a few good friends in the execution. They're still alive, but without memory. Gaming has been spoiled for me since. Oh well.
And judging by what ex-employees are saying there is a shadow management of old and popular employees that are too egotistical to change their ways and Gaben is powerless figurehead right now and just plays Dota 2 with bots all day long, it’s basically the anarcocapitalist ball meme in the form of a company. Also everything the company does is done through everyone voting including fire, hiring and buying other companies.
He just wanted to glow in the dark.
I'm not so sure there's even that much attention to be had any more; it's just been too long.
Sour old boomers like me who still play videogames are too few to matter, and the zoomers aren't going to raise an eyebrow at a ten year old FPS getting a follow up.
Of course, considering Valve's trend chasing tendencies, that may just mean HL3 is going to be a cartoony BR.
My headcanon is that it's been held back because they hope that HL3 will make VR a thing like HL2 made Steam a thing.
Earth is the arena where alot of species are fighting for control.Humans,combines,vortigaunts,g-man faction, the headcrabs(?)
But we don't go to Ravelholm.
You really think that after Artifact, there's any hope left that they are able to make something with an even bigger effort needed?
Gaben is not against HL3,He is against an HL3 that will release and absolutely disappoint fans expectations which is a very highly possibility. They were producing HL3 since 2005 (producing the hl2 episodes and hl3 at the same time) and the engine they used was a prototype of source 2,if it got released in 2008 it may have looked good but it didn't so they had to keep renewing stuff and replacing engines and textures which further confused the workplace.I feel like they are just wanting to finish a new engine before they can implement it.I also think the game will be in VR or VR optional, they also have to give us something better than the gravity and portal gun which I find kinda hard desu
to join the roblox gang and transcend
they are keeping half life the name alive in case they want to profit off it in some way in the late future. its not going to be half life 3 in particular but some crap with the half life ip. thats it. they dont want to kill it in the event they can make money off some future half life trading card game
Hell what can you even innovate in gaming anymore, though I always wonder what kind of RTS (old) valve would make I mean it is the one genre of gaming that needs saving not this card shit.
he doesn't have an endgame
he's meant to be a mysterious character that just propels the story forward
he's not meant to be explained
>half life 3
never ever
I could have bid their technology and equipment for inter-dimensional travel. The combine did want it after all.
