Well, at least they didn't bandwagon to what the Competitive community told them.Even then, through all the unbalanced mess that is Brawl lies a somewhat deep Smash game with a fair amount of options within the better half of the cast: It's just kind of slow & unrewarding, but some people dig that sort of Neutral Heavy gameplay in Smash, and there's nothing wrong with that. There's also always the casuals and the memories of Brawl they hold dear: I loved the Stage Builder much more in that game & it really elevated people's creativity with all kinds of wacky game modes on weird stages.
All Smash games are pretty neat, I like them all, even Smash 4 who doesn't have much of a reason to be played nowadays, still has Smash Run & Custom Moves.
