>final boss and ending are literally nothing

This game is hard /:
Fantastic soundtrack though

Nigger, I got to Eat at Joe's when I was no older than 5 or 6 and only stopped there because my brother broke our Playstation. Get good.

My very first video game. Given how hard it was in hindsight I don't understand why the industry is fixated on making games easier and easier.

This game is so fucking good
Is Rayman Origins/Legends as hard?

There are only three hard levels in the game. Pencil Pentathlon, Space Mama's Crater and Eat at Joe's. All three are completely doable, its difficulty is way overstated since a lot of the playerbase were young at release.

I played it fairly recently and it's still hard.

The difficulty doesn't come from lack of skill, the level design is entirely cryptic and bullshit for the most part

Some of the cages are tough, but it's not difficult to just pass the levels.

they're not as hard as rayman 1, but you should give them a go. they're unironically some of the best platformers of all time. Actually, some of the levels are stupid hard though, the later ones. I can't really compare it to rayman 1 though because ya know, a lot of differences.

*blocks your path*

Attached: green bug.jpg (478x480, 60K)

wtf was his problem

what shitty port is this

Is there a version of Rayman 1 that is actually SOMEWHAT fair and SOMEWHAT not broken?

no git gud fag

GBA version?

FUCK these green niggers

Record yourself playing the game.

Why?

>Playstation version

Saturn version is better

Imagine thinking you need proof lmao

Why yes, my favorite version is the Saturn one, how did you know?

Attached: 1548692404173.jpg (1080x1266, 85K)

Yeah, but its on the fucking saturn isn't it?

That automatically makes it better.

I dont get it

lol no

Rayman 1 vanilla has nothing on the hell of Rayman Gold, which forces 100% clears to even finish any stage.

GBA version starts you up with 4 HP and the power up gives you 2 more HP. Some levels and enemies are missing completely. Some sprites are very pixelated and stretched. More than half the music is gone and the instruments are awful.

DSi version has even more fucking health. You start with 6HP and the power up gives you 4 more HP. Despite being on a more powerful console, levels and enemies are still missing from the game. Some of the original music is now present but the more ambient tracks are still missing.

Despite the ridiculous max health some of the platforming sections are even harder bevause of the low resolution.
It's funny how all these years have passed and they have never been able to fully port the original PSX game in its full glory. Even the MS-DOS version, the most complete port that I know of, is missing music and certain graphical effects. It's got Rayman Designer though and that shit was the fucking tits.
I've not kept up with my Rayman-fu lately. Correct me if I am wrong, please.

Also, git gud you fucking faggot.

Forcing 100% to unlock the final boss on such a cryptic game was fucking harsh. Imagine the outrage if a game did that today.

My retarded 10 year old brain couldn't understand you needed to use your helicopter to break those two sections of rope I thought it was something random.
That level go frustrating real fast.

I have never played this game, Yea Forums. However, for reasons I don't fully understand, I own a physical copy of it: original disc, case and even instruction manual. It's been years since I gave away my PS1, so what should I do with the game? is it worth emulating?

but duuude i 103% this game when i was 2 but i can't prove it because my mother ate my game console
git güd loser

lol yes

Full Metal Furies hides a lot of its content and final boss behind puzzles and secrets many people didn't care to solve when the game first released.

Origins > Legends

How is the Saturn version different?

The DOS version is also slightly easier than the PSX version. Some placements have been revised

>original PSX game

The Jaguar version of Rayman 1 is the most complete version.

How exactly?

You mean harder right? I easily finished the game on PSX but some cages on the DOS version are fucking hard to find.

YEAAH

I liked the second one more

I seem to remember that the Blue Mountains had some extremely tight jumps that were adjusted in the DOS version.
Personally I will always chose DOS because of the Band Land intro level having the cool transition from the Dream Forest, pic related

Rayman Origins and Legends honestly play like
classic Sonic games but with more linear level design

hey user, you should check out Desert Bus, people say it's pretty hard

The burden is on you, m8.

DOS had the shitty cycling music though instead of having audio cues and level-specific songs. It's a shame that every port of Rayman 1 got gradually more easy and generous with continues too. Someone can roll through the DSi or GBA versions relatively easily, but the original was way more demanding.

Completely unrelated, but I just found a sprite sheet and thought it was pretty cool.

Attached: ScreenShot00002.png (1126x504, 951K)

I am finally playing it after having it sit on a shelf for years. I don't like how the world is fucking empty (my pet peeves), but the gameplay is fun. Also, the game is proto-BG&E.

I also found a sprite sheet for the 2D beta of Rayman 2 (found as a bonus level). Someone might appreciate it.

>DOS had the shitty cycling music though instead of having audio cues and level-specific songs.
I was so fucking let down by the PC version just because of this.

>Issue with sound when I played on my PC at 9 meant the music played but none of the sound effects, so I never actually heard the sound effect for when a secret was activated

I don't know how I ever managed beat this game then

Was there any particular reason the final boss ended with such a blue ball? Did Ubisoft think doing the fusion boss rush and fighting Mr. Dark would've been too much? Did the first part of the fight count as "fighting" Mr. Dark in their eyes? Did someone on the dev team not want to see their precious edgy character get beat up? What's the deal?

youtu.be/kNqXvcVmyw8

I already own it on GOG as well as PS1, GBA and DS

>tfw one of my teachers at ISART was a Ubisoft employee who worked on the beta Rayman 2 that got canned.

Frankly that prototype didn't look that good, but I'd still prefer that to the direction they went with the 3D games.

pic related never ever

Got this multiple times now. Any idea what the issue is? The installer gets about halfway then crashes.

Attached: ScreenShot00004.png (366x152, 13K)

I'm not sure, I've read the installer needs admin rights

I disagree.

Attached: 2484367 - Betilla Rayman_(series) Rayman_Origins TheBikupan.png (797x682, 324K)

I liked it. I wasn't a huge fan of the clay artstyle, but multiple planes that extend into the background reminded me of Oddworld (Abe's Oddysee is another favourite).

I'll look into it.

Tried that, no idea. Apparently it was only tested on W10 so it might be an issue specific to 7. I'll try it on my laptop later. Thanks though, I appreciate it.

I enjoy how challenging it was but it's kind of ugly. I prefer rayman arena and rayman3 a lot better in that regard, and I'm glad they kept 3's Rayman design for origins and legends

1997. Best christmas of my life. My dad had just bought our first flat screen CRT, I got PS1 and Rayman for christmas and played it with my cousins all night. I never actually finished the game until 10 years later

Attached: 1542724906919.png (894x894, 89K)

>it's kind of ugly
It's probably the second-best looking 2D platformer of its time, after Yoshi's Island.

Eat at Joe's is by far the hardest part of the game, though, with Space Mama pn a solid 2nd place. The rest of the is completely fair.

Rest of the game*

nice blog mate

I tried it on my W8.1 and it went through with no problem. The UI in the installer and launcher look very much like Metro, so maybe there is some problem. Does the installer at least start?

I had to buy the GBA version to beat this game.

Attached: 318271da980706f7a18a811c3456a77d.png (633x758, 16K)

I'd say Space Mama is harder than Eat at Joe's (and Pencil Pentathlon is up there too), but you're right. Even those levels are fair- the main problem is that you're forced to chain 5-6 of the hardest levels in the game in a row before you're allowed back to the map to save.

Did anyone play the GBA Rayman 3?
Parts of that were quite hard

Yep, it scans and finds my installed games and asks me to point it to a directory. It works fine until it hits 24%, then it crashes.

I'm uploading the thing. Hang thight

shit it seems it needs some registry stuff

I'll have a play around with it. I might just need the rest of the audio files if it did the first 20% already

But Eat at Joe's isn't even that hard. Pencil Pentathlon is way harder, but I never have issues with any particular map, only the one annoying cage in Cave of Skops right above the one checkpoint, one with the nigh impossible fling lum chain.

The new Rayman 2Ds, while difficult in spots, give you unlimited lives so you can basically brute force if you're not getting the hang of things. Even then they're not that bad outside the treasure chase levels.

Oh yeah, that helicopter level in Pencil Pentathlon is kinda bullshit, but I got pretty good at that.

The third level in Pencil Pentathlon used to be impossible because of the rows of pencils you have to jump through, but it turns out that simply walking forward through that whole sequence makes it impossible to fail it.

I found the registry entry. It seems to store the patch and some options there.
Will report back

you don't know shit

Okay, you just need to open this reg file in a text editor and adjust the Rayman Plus path
Then you can install it to your registry by just double clicking
mediafire.com/file/4szt0z9d5atdath/RaymanPlusPathReg.reg/file

I never see anyone in Rayman threads talking about the level editor for the DOS version, this was easily where I spent 90% of my Rayman-playing time

Attached: rayman level editor.gif (320x240, 23K)

I feel like games appear easier because the industry has really gotten away from limited lives and game overs. Those things just discourage players from continually trying/playing their game. On top of that, games nowadays allow you to save before every level, where back then it if you got a game over you prayed you didn't start from the beginning of the world or game even.

The level editor was really rough, but then again my primary experience with it was as a kid. Wouldn't mind seeing it make a return.

I remember losing a good 60 lives before noticing the walking shit.
I don't know if it's as bad as THAT one barrel in Sonic.

>Those things just discourage players from continually trying/playing their game
It also makes them more rewarding and fun, though. It's why Rayman 1 is a much more memorable game that Super Meat Boy. Deaths mattered

If it was released today you'd hear normalfags and journos call it
THE DARK SOULS OF PLATFORMERS or some shit.

There are a couple fan projects that managed to make more advanced level editors than the official one, I believe they even extended it to hacking levels in the console ports

Idk.. depends on who you talk to. I bet if they were to re-release the game they'd add more lives and let you save at any point.
As someone who loved but never beat Crash Bandicoot for the ps1, I'm very glad they added the save before any level feature in the N-Sane Trilogy version. I was finally able to beat the game and even 100% it, (no platinum relics though). Sure, the reward might not be as great as beating the original version but in terms of fun, its just as fun if not more fun because I didn't get frustrated by failing a million times and having to start from the beginning of the last world i played.

Still works fine, why not just give it a go?

I have absolutely no fucking love for sidescrolling platformers, but I really liked rayman origins. Skip legends.

And my point is, level difficulty is the same, but the N-Sane version of the game was much more forgiving.

What's wrong with Legends

I really don't think the original Crash Bandicoot is as hard as you're remembering it.

Anyone else following this project?
youtube.com/watch?v=5x2_2wTVTxI

>2 and 3 are so easy they're the only games I try to speedrun

I maintained my sanity until Eat at Joe's. The leaps of faith were too much

What helicopter level? I'm talking about the intense level

Legends mostly just re-hashes Origins.

looks interesting, but why tf did they not use the small rayman sprite and instead scaled the big one down? looks real janky

(Ti-ding)

Basically Origins has something of a storyline, but legends just feels like some kind of challenge map DLC for Origins or something. Missions feel very disconnected you don't really feel any sort of progression or anything it's weird, Origins is cool though.

It was the first proper Rayman game after years of that Raving Rabbids shit and it just did the original game justice from my perspective. Slick new graphics with a slightly updated artstyle to bring it up to date, much more frantic and faster paced gameplay than the original at times, it's definitely engaging. The music is still great too, there are some parts of the game where you have to escape from some kind of enemy and you'll be running through an area and you'll notice your jumps, kicks, punches and your footsteps as you're running are matching the beat of the music, those moments were pretty effective at butting a big stupid grin on my face. Every rayman fan should play origins.

>Space Mama's Crater
Band Land is easymode, the last level before that bitch is pure hell and the music isn't certainly helping
youtube.com/watch?v=eMxNjrtoeGw

Attached: I'm not even mad.png (250x250, 133K)

>Basically Origins has something of a storyline
too bad they cut most of it
like, it's called Rayman Origins, but we never learn about any origin story, it just starts with "Rayman and pals were goofing around until shit happened" like any other Rayman game

I enjoyed Legends. I think it had many novel ideas. I still play those music levels when shitfaced.
But I have to agree that the game didn't really feel like a whole like the other games. On the other hand, I also enjoyed playing through Rayman by his fans and the other Level packs

This. That specific last level before her is the biggest challenge the game can offer. God i love this game.

The amount of random sudden-spawning enemies in the trickiest locations is infuriating
Just the sound gives me PTSD

So we hosting a Rayman level making contest or what?

better be anal

New actual Rayman game when?

Legends is like 6 years old

>it's not
fucking hell

>6 years

Has it been that long? Seriously feels like it only came out two years ago.

Well, the game was brutal for a kid.

Yes. It has been that long.

In the meantime Ubisoft Montpellier worked on Asscreed Unity and Origins and now they are all busy with BGE2

So probably no new Rayman from their side until +2021

Michel Ancel said something about wanting to do Rayman 4 after Beyond Good and Evil 2, which is probably going to take them fucking ages if they keep making those CGI trailers rather than developing the game

As far as I remember, there are only 3 levels in Pencil Pentathlon: one somewhat normal level but with very little floor to land on, one with endless helicopter flight with very tight maneuvering between spikes and bouncy erasers, and one that begins with randomly assorted bouncing pencils and continues with those pencil arcs I mentioned.

Not bouncing pencils, I meant bouncy erasers.

BGE2 is probably ending up Duke Nuke Forever style.

>fans wanted the game for ages
>so did the creators
>but they only pushed for it when nothing else seemed to work anymore
>get the okay from Ubisoft
>but they want the game to be massive which means they need to invest a ton and so find a way to balance their vision and Ubisofts hunger for monetization
>2 years later and still pretty much nothing to look at outside of CGI trailers and non-gameplay material

People are claiming that this game is super hard. But it's not that difficult once you know what you're doing. I've beaten this game like 10 times as a kid with all the Electoons saved and all that.

You would think they could do one nice city for BGE2 when they have been making 5 mediocre ones in Asscreed.

There's Child of Light 2 before that.

The thing that is probably holding the development back is the discussion going like

Devs
>"We want you to control that spaceship and fly from planet to planet without loading screens and there is also huge cities you can just enter and also no loading screens and you can basicly do ANYTHING"

Ubisoft
>"Can't you just do Asscreed in Space with animals and aliens?"

Attached: 1525148766946.jpg (450x307, 14K)

That is Ubisoft Montreal

The Rayman guys have nothing to do with it.

please do another 3D rayman, I love Origins and Legends, but I want another 2D Rayman.

I can't believe that Game Boy Rayman is the only version with a Mr. Dark bossfight

youtube.com/watch?v=kyntqIgo60g

Reminder that we will never get Rayman 4 which was basicly all the good things from the first Rayman but with 3D Rayman qualities

Because that game got cancelled

In all fairness I'd argue Legends is a very good map-pack. Also, whilst it's true there is a story in Origins, it's pretty bare-bones. I think if I were to recommend one of the two I'd definitely recommend Legends, though, just because the creativity on display with the level-design is pretty fantastic.

I don't know why everyone says it's so hard. Just use save points and walk down the slippery ink and it's no problem.

Basically a bunch of delusional dreamers vs. corporate cost efficient suits. That ain't going anywhere.

It's not even about having the budget for it - it's about whether or not that idea makes a good game - and it usually doesn't.

>Mr Dark is supposed to be this ultra bad main villain
>you never fight him
>no one gives a shit about him after the first game
what other game series does this?
