Multiplayer is a hamster running weal at it's core.
It's a way to have players to waste their time in the cheapest easiest way possible.
You can say that games in general are a waste of time, but single player games tell stories, have progression and have an end. Eventually you walk away and you got something out of it.
You can play multiplayer for ever, with the goal of getting better, so you can play more multiplayer. It lacks meaning and conclusion.
It's sports without the health benefit and it's work without the self improvement. Single player games offer things you the same thing books and movies do. Multiplayer is a cheap babysitter.
