MGS 3 for its dramatic effect, it was so well orchestrated which made it enthralling like no other vidyas I remember.

I fondly remember Mother 3 too.

GTA Vice City was peak brother Houser writing. I praise this game for it, felt like I was the only kid that cared about it while everyone else only played it to fuck around. San Andreas had just as many details in the writing but it wasnt as solid of an arc imo.

Silent Hill 2 is up there but I think that Pathologic is superior in the writing dept., check it out if youve never played it.

Btw the best doesnt equal the most deep or most documented. Nolan movies are praised for having fake depth.

Generally I think the best game stories are those that intertwine mechanics, context and narrative. There are a few outliers obviously.

OoT/Majora's Mask - and both perfectly tie their doomsday scenarios into a central mechanic, too
