making a shallow imitation of lovecraft does not a compelling aesthetic make

Oh look, here’s another one.

All console exclusives are over-hyped.

It's actually quite a unique and nuanced take on Lovecraft compared to the usual fodder. The Great Ones are generally benevolent, seeking for surrogate children because they lost the ability to naturally procreate as a result of their ascension beyond mortal flesh. It was partly inspired by taking a cultural problem Japan is facing, where the more advanced a society becomes, the worse its birthrates, and following it to its end.

I guarantee if you think it's a shallow imitation of Lovecraft, it's because you've barely dipped your toes in it.

But the Great Ones don't seem to form a society.

came here to post it

If you're talking about the base game yes
DLC turns it into a 9/10 though

Apart from Fishing Hamlet, I don't consider the DLC very good.

>shitty ass graphics

DROPPED

It's alright, I guess.
Don't like how the combat is almost anime levels of fast and spastic though.

I found it a boring game and have no idea why so many people love it.

I think it's great because it offers much needed weapon variety and a handful of fantastic bosses. Hunter's Nightmare isn't a good zone outside of the bosses imo.

They formed an advanced enough society to fuck off into the stars. We don''t really get to see them as a collective, rather having mostly interactions with singular individuals among them, so it's hard to grasp how exactly they interact with each other.

We do know that they basically ruined Pthumerian society by accident, being so eager to adopt them and care for them that they taught them things they weren't ready to know and coddled them. They created a brilliant, wonderous period of advancement in Pthumerian culture built on the most fragile base, dooming it to an extraordinary collapse. It's part of why they're so careful with humanity, except this time humanity got overeager and fucked themselves.

fpbp
I think it's among the best this decade had to offer, and personal favorite of all time.

I think it's r/K selection theory.
I’m not sure if it still is supported by biologists now, but it’s a theory where organisms rely on either “r” or “K” reproductive strategies. r-selected species are those that emphasize high growth rates, typically exploit less-crowded ecological niches, and produce many offspring, each of which has a relatively low probability of surviving to adulthood (i.e., high r, low K), Among the traits that are thought to characterize r-selection are high fecundity, small body size, early maturity onset, short generation time, and the ability to disperse offspring widely. In contrast, K-selected species display traits associated with living at densities close to carrying capacity and typically are strong competitors in such crowded niches that invest more heavily in fewer offspring, each of which has a relatively high probability of surviving to adulthood (i.e., low r, high K). Traits that are thought to be characteristic of K-selection include large body size, long life expectancy, and the production of fewer offspring, which often require extensive parental care until they mature. They are generally more complex organisms compared to r-selected.

>They formed an advanced enough society to fuck off into the stars

Uhh these are not beings that require technology user, you are supposed to understand that...they didn't fuck off to anywhere...these were never world bound beings

>>Uhh these are not beings that require technology user, you are supposed to understand that...they didn't fuck off to anywhere...these were never world bound beings
Yes and no. They weren't necessarily always cosmic beings, some of them are ascended just like the player in the Splatoon ending. The point of the whole "they didn't fuck off to anywhere" thing is really "The Sky and Cosmos are one", which is meant to indicate that "From the stars" doesn't mean much when Earth is just as much in space as anything else, and you're already in the Cosmos. It can also refer to the whole deal about dreams literally being layered on top of each other, with the dream literally being in the sky, looking down on Yharnam, and the Hunter's Nightmare being above that, looking down on the Nightmare of Mensis.

I find most of the new weapons are either redundant or disappointing. Beast Cutter, Amygdalan Arm, Whirligig Saw and Bloodletter all have one mode in which they're just a club to clobber monsters with. It makes you wonder why they're trick weapons in the first place. Rakuyo is honestly nothing but a mixture of Chikage and Blade of Mercy. Saif looks like the two Saws, which is quite boring in and of itself. The only ones remaining then are HMS, which is too similar to LHB, Church Pick (although the pick part is basically the Burial Blade) and Bowblade. Of course there are also Kos Parasite and Beast Claw, both of which are really great.

I also don't like the bosses as much as other people. Ludwig interrupts the fight for his stupid cutscene (and gets a completely new move set), Living Failures are a literal joke and Maria is easily cheesed with parries among others. Orphan of Kos makes for an interesting fight, though, but he has some of Fromsoft's new tropes in his design (like tracking in the second part of the attack and withholding an attack for a few seconds as to catch the player off-guard).

As for the levels, I can only say that they replaced the subtle visual design of the original game with something much more tediously obvious. This is especially apparent when the Eye Pendant you get states that the Nightmare is indeed home to two Cathedrals (as if that had not been totally obvious up until that point) and that this is a thing that's thematically relevant.

>HMS, which is too similar to LHB
How to know you're talking out of your ass in seven words.

I miss 2015

Is it not? It looks like it quite a bit to me.

Imagine this degree of nitpicking in Dark Souls. You'd boil the game down to about a dozen weapons and say everything else is too similar to those to matter.

I just can't relate. All these weapons have entirely different movesets and are fun to use. As for cheeseable bosses, don't cheese then. Maria is boss that is extremely fun to dance to, instead of parrying. You should know by now, three games in before BB, that parrying trivializes the game.

Attached: maria..jpg (582x1348, 630K)

Dark Souls is never praised for its unique weapon design.

They made it worse in Bloodborne since you can parry from far away using the Hunter Pistol. There's no risk involved.

Good HMLS play relies a lot on making good usage of the beams. The devs put a lot of effort into making sure the beams were actually a useful part of the weapon's kit, and ignoring them makes it questionable why you'd ever pick up the weapon to begin with. And even in untricked mode, the base sword of the HMLS is a heavier, slower weapon than the base LHB.

i remember that autistic sickdark poster. fuck that retard.

great game

Attached: dark-souls-3.jpg (323x433, 31K)

It is when sizing it up against Bloodborne. Most of the time when people complain about Bloodborne's lack of weapon variety, they're saying it in direct comparison to Dark Souls.

How does this relate to my original post?

...

I agree. I think one thing they could've done and easily fix this is make the range to parry an attack much shorter and increase the recovery to use firearms (much like the blunderbuss, but slightly more so).

Attached: djura.png (600x594, 235K)

that game is absolute shit.

They're similar, not the same. Then again, no one said that.

Bullet have travel time. Trying to parry from a distance requires an even stricter timing because you usually have to anticipate what the boss is going to do and have them attack into the bullets. Besides which, Maria can clear the distance, and even gets the whole blood slash thing going on, so she has good odds on hitting you even if you fail even if you try doing it from a distance.

You said they're "too similar", which I flatly disagree with. They're superficially similar, and if that's "too" similar for you, then it doesn't engender a lot of faith in your opinion.

I love trannyborne and sony.

Honestly, she doesn't since pistols recover quickly enough for you to dodge or even try again after you've missed once. Besides, the game is lenient with parry windows and not much faster than Souls games to boot.

Seriously though, what is it with trannies and Bloodborne?

Every tranny I've ever met loved Bloodborne.

everybody likes bloodborne, even mental rejects.

Why not? I don't really care for the intricacies of the weapons in Bloodborne since I think combat mechanics are quite shallow. R1 on any weapon is a sufficient answer to everything in the game.

I played through once normally, no DLC, didn't see much of the side content. Finished the game and then just kind of left it at that. This was a while ago, probably last played about a year after release. Loved it but never gave it the further play I should have.

I'm planning to get the DLC next time it goes on sale, and want to play through from the start again both because I want to go through the game again anyway, and because I hear the DLC is best experienced as part of a normal playthrough. Should I NG+ off my old save or just go on an entirely raw save?

your opinions < my objective opinions

Make a new one. Start anew and see the side content. If you've been absent for so long on the game, ng+ DLC could be pretty difficult.

my objective opinions > your gay opinions

Disgusting

Sufficient maybe, but there are a lot of situations where the meatier attacks are well worth setting up. For comparison, the R1s of the tricked LHB are often less effective than chaining the heavy chops, which can be a bit trickier to get started but will stagger even large enemies and let you follow it up.

Going up against one of the labyrinth madmen, I'd much rather get them with a chop than try and R1 them to death. Similarly, a lot of weapons actually have quite powerful transform attacks.

based negroid

>combat is almost anime levels of fast and spastic
The combat is average at speed with the FPs being trash for a game all about timing your dodge

I agree, the Greatest Hits edition of Dark souls almost made me puke.

based taste
you're not bad for a nigger

Attached: ayyyy.png (371x434, 253K)

The game isn't about timing your dodge, it, like any Souls game, is about positioning.

Alright Bloodborne heads, how do I not fuck up the Eileen sidequest?

I beat the Blood-starved beast and I hope I didn't fuck over my chances in meeting her again, because I keep hearing how buggy this quest is.

Don't bother.

Sorry, those move sets and their applications don't do the trick for me. I see where you're coming from, and it's certainly more than Dark Souls gives you, but it's still significantally below games from Platinum Games, for example.

>buggy questline
What? It works perfectly fine.
Have you talked to Eileen outside of Oedon's Chapel? Go and talk to her, and then go to the Tomb of Oedon.

but i want that rune and I wanna experience all the game's content though

It's really not worth it.

The questline isn't buggy. I don't know where you got this shit. Maybe the 2015 shitposting got into your head.

Nigger

>talk to her in Central Yharnam
>open the two gates in Cathedral Ward to have her appear again
>talk to her near Oedon Chapel
>drop down below from where you fight Gascoigne onto a small house (?)
>go behind yellow guy
>backstab + posion knives until she arrives
>wait until Blood Moon
>go to Main Cathedral
>kill edgy crow guy
>claim your rewards

It's not so much buggy as it is kind of awkwardly thought out. In order to initiate the 2nd meeting, you must open both the big gate into the Grand Cathedral plaza, and the shortcut gate by the Chapel of Oedon, which makes is easy to get into the Grand Cathedral and kill Amelia without seeing Eileen the 2nd time, ruining the quest.

It's smooth sailing after that, just meet her at the relevant locations.

okay so if I just killed the Blood-starved beast, I'm set then? Nice.

It was partly inspired by taking a cultural problem Japan is facing, where the more advanced a society becomes, the worse its birthrates
AHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAAAHHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHA

I know what you're thinking.
>There are so many people in the world now, obviously the birthrates are crazy high now
When actually, it's the survival rates of infants that has gone up. It's teetered over the peak now though, where there are far too many positions in society to fill and far too few new people being born to fill them. The more survivable children are, the less incentive people have to birth more and more, and it's starting to show.

If it was on PC it would be a 10/10

no

Yes, because then you could render it at 4k 60FPS and get rid of the Chromatic Aberration. Not to mention stuff like the First Person Mod.

>What is PSNow

Why the sony brand loyalty? Jesus fucking christ. Enjoy the games, not corporate kikery.

This is probably the most civil BB critique thread. BB threads in general are really mellow. Go check out the souls threads, that consist nothing but DaS3 vs 2 spergouts.

agree. very good atmosphere. that's literally it. everything else is just bare basic linear no variety fast paced r1 spamming combat

Looks boring like dark souls

Savage.

>being a snoy golem

Above average I'd say.

I think it's good.

But the dark souls formula clearly works better with a slower gameplay.
