I was actually just going to post a thread about Artifact. I thought this was suppose to be the HEARTHSTONE killer, what went wrong?

Valve forgot how to make games.

The cute little dragon was the best part of the game, sadly.

>Kotaku has joined the Doomposters

Proof once and for all that Artifact is good.

If only they made it free...

massive paywal

>hemorrhaging players
>still costs $25

hmm

I remember one of the big complaints with Hearthstone being you couldn't trade/sell cards. So what happened with Artifact having the advantage of the Steam Market?

At this point it's pretty obvious they're trying to sweep the game under the rug and pretend it never happened.

Paywall, too few cards and the selection of cards in the game right now are mechanically too simple to keep the often very long games interesting.

A month ago I thought there would be some big plan to save the game

Today I think they will make it F2P and give it two minor yearly updates. It's going to be mostly forgotten.

No refunds.

Desperate, your turn

I unironically love HS and have only been playing since Witchwood expansion. I've never put a dime into the game and I play free arenas daily. Fuck constructed, that shits gay.

Artifact is the Steam Controller of.vidya games

>Release a card game long after the card game craze died.
I wonder what went wrong. It's made worse by the fact that this is a company people expect the fucking moon from.

>find IRL infinite money exploit
>bleed everyone dry
>flop every hardware project you desperately try to push Steam on
>make a game and a half per decade to pacify ever dwindling consumer base
>despite still having vehement fans, still disappoint them time after time and trwat them as if they don't exist
>make zero effort to improve the situation or at least outright say that they aren't in the game business anymore
I see no reason having faith in Valve of all things in 2019. They're a scummy corporation like any other.

Mommy loves Artifact, so I do too.

Who's this jewees? My peepe go hard for jeweeses.

>companies owe me to make great games!

They're not really that much of a developer anymore. Your post seems infantile desu.

Valve have recently made gaming infinitely better for everyone, but you, typically, don't even know what they did.

Even if the game went F2P, it wouldn't maintain a player base for very long. You got to remember, the game lost 99% of it's player base (who all paid) in like a month or two.

Valve are too lazy and inconsistent to run a live service game.

Making it free won't save it from dying for being a shitty game, it didn't save Evolve and it wouldn't save this crap, there are better already free games out there

because I pirate everything and don't need a middleman

Evolution does not imply improvement brainlet

Paying players and non-playing payers are different markets in different countries, you can't apply logic of one to the other. Apples and oranges.

>Valve are too lazy and inconsistent to run a live service game.
Have you, by chance, heard of Dota 2

>companies owe me to make great games!
They absolutely do owe people good games if they actually want money

It’s going to go to a farm and be free with all the other multiplayer games nobody played

Anger.

I don’t think she’s Jewish, though. Just Norwegian.

>mommy
More like two abortions and a dog

Well no they absolutely don't since valve is insanely, earth shatteringly profitable

You realize profits from sellign products are only ever like 1/100 of profits from running services right

>niggerwithtonguestickingoutlaugh.jpeg

Just gonna leave these numbers here

You mean the game that has been haemorrhaging players for years now because Valve have consistently gotten lazier and lazier with updating it?

Also, the games problem isn't the pay wall. It's that everyone who has played it has stopped playing it. It cannot keep players because it's just not a good game and in need of lots and lots of changes.
The fact that it hasn't received a major update in the 3-4 months it's been released says a lot and even if Valve did make it F2P, it'd lose all those players within a month anyway.

If Valve don't pull their finger out of their ass, the game is done for. They should have released at minimum a 200+ card expansion by now.

As soon as they announced it I thought they were jumping on the digital cardgame market too late.

just wait till they release a battle royale game in 2025

Trying to kill Hearthstone after everyone already stopped caring about Hearthstone, for a start.

twitter.com/playartifact?lang=en

last official tweet was 21.dec.
the game's fucking dead.

>plans for Artifact
>Milk whales

>I thought this was suppose to be the HEARTHSTONE killer, what went wrong?
Hearthstone is too busy killing itself at the moment

Paywall, saturated market, not a super good game overall, very long games. Now not all of those have to be negative but in this context they were. Artifact is going to go free to play at some point. I know valve is gonna stay firm and not do it to quick to make it look like it didnt fail but give it an xpac or 2 and it will.

CSGO went free to play with a battle royal gamemode.

Artifact was just something garfield was doing inbetween making keyforge.

JUST

...

well, we here at valve are pleased to announce...
.
.
....
......
RICOCHET TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

And Keyforge is just something Garfield worked on while preparing for his next game.

HEY GUYS LETS MAKE A CARD GAME

OKAY, LETS SEE, WHICH FRANCHISE SHOULD WE THEME IT AROUND?

HOW ABOUT
THE MOST
BORING
FUCKING
ONE
WE
HAVE?

> not even some kind of "valve allstars" card game with tf2 and half life and Lfd and ricochet and shit in it.

what a shitshow. doomed from the start because dota lore is boring-ass generic shit

Where do these narratives come from, did they reach out to the players who then told they were desperate

Probably looked at the official forums/reddit where people are probably pretty desperate?

What if they're all larping though, how do they separate fact from fiction

Looking at the reddit for a dead game is always very entertaining, like stillborn.

I don't think they would larp about being desperate at this point, though I would expect that they would be more resigned to their fate than anything else

JUST FUCKING MAKE HALF LIFE 3 ALREADY REEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Attached: Valve.png (345x837, 600K)

They didnt make it f2p. WHY WOULD YOU MAKE IT P2P WHEN YOUR ONLY OTHER COMPETITION IS FUCKING FREE VALVE HUH HUH WHYYYYYYYYYYY?

>Pros
Fuckton of situational lines
Fairly polished for a digital TCG
Could make your money back if you pulled an Axe

>Cons
More RNG than fucking Hearthstone
Can't turn off those retarded gremlins
Shop fucks the game sideways
Paywall killed a lot of the initial possible playerbase
Horrific balance
Slow as hell gameplay

They wanted the concept to be like a real life card game.
Buy the cards and play with them.

People didn't get it and the cards were too few and simple.

Isn't she having an affair with Tyler Mcvicker?

and the game was shit

Who's going to make it? The story already leaked, and everyone working on it is long gone at this point

They actually fired several people from the Artifact team during the purge.
So it may legitimately be dead.

Do you really want current valve to make half life 3?

Absolutely nothing since it's an unlikeable game in an already filled genre.

MOBA fans are NOT ccg fans.

>blizzard jumps too late on the moba train
>valve jumps too late on the cardgame train
why are these big publishers so out of touch

Blizzard was trying to get their MOBA going for a while but could never get it together fast enough.
Valve did the opposite and waited too long to even start.

>Dota
>Losing players

>all those poor souls that thought they could bank off of the games success by making content

Ah, yes, the most boring one, the one wich was born from a mod that was so popular that it put in a legal battle two of the biggest video game companies of the last decade, so boring that it spawned a wave of clones and games that tried to do the same thing, so boring that it's characters have been plagiarized countless times, it's so boring that for the last 3 years it has earned Valve over 200.000.000 on battlepasses alone. The one that has over 100 playable characters with lore and backstories, dozens of items and even a handfull of comics.

Attached: 12365145560421.png (739x450, 43K)

Auto Chess is launching their standalone mobile game soon so Dota will be losing players

>put in a legal battle two of the biggest video game companies of the last decade

Pretty much everything there was friendly settlements.

>so boring that it spawned a wave of clones and games that tried to do the same thing, so boring that it's characters have been plagiarized countless times
> The one that has over 100 playable characters with lore and backstories, dozens of items and even a handfull of comics.

Which doesn't stop the lore from being utter shite and fanfic tier user. it was a complete afterthought when making dota and it shows.

Hearthstone is doing a fine job of killing itself while Magic Arena is slowly sweeping up all that's left.

>people play Dota 2 for the deep lore and characters
If that were the case we'd all still be playing it on WC3 dumpnut.

>put in a legal battle two of the biggest video game companies of the last decade
Indeed kinda of an overstatement, while Blizzard did legally own the original dota itself, it couldnt possibly own the ideas behind, Valve had already succesfully marketed the game as Dota 2 before Blizzard stepped in, and they saw no benefit from ruining Valve's day, probably because they didnt see the potential nor would they have ever realized it without Valve's innovations in monetization.
>it was a complete afterthought when making dota and it shows.
If you're talking about dota 1 i dont know what you're trying to imply, it was literally made by teenagers and outright stole characters from other games and anime.

But regarding Dota 2's lore it did exist and got loads of content with the last few characters and Artifact stuff, and anyway, unexplored doesnt means lacking in quality or interest.
Not to mention its a fucking comedy fantasy setting under the sheets.

They do. People even complain when cosmetics conflict with the lore...

Ok, I'll put it into different words.

Practically fucking nobody is going to play Artifact because he feels drawn to the lore, not even dota players, for the most part, care about it.

Alpine set represents
By the way nice cuads fag, here's a background for you

Attached: Background.jpg (3840x2160, 1.5M)

>games are absurdly long and it's almost impossible to figure out what's going on via just watching streamers play
>isn't f2p so those casually interested won't even bother giving it a try
It's a complete mystery as to why Artifact's population absolutely cratered so quickly.

hahahaha no

Attached: Grand_Witch_Hunter_Templar_Preview_1.jpg (949x788, 270K)

>"valve allstars"
Don't be silly user, that would be FUN despite the lack of cohesion. Games nowadays have to be serious business and filled with lore.

>some amazing cosmetics
>can't see SHIT because it's a fucking moba
At least LoL's you can see quite a lot.

>In Dota you can put the camera literally like in that pic or use the model viewer
>In LoL you only have shitty false adversitement aka splashart

Attached: Taunt-CM-snowangel.gif (320x260, 2.87M)

Attached: devolution.png (996x860, 505K)

Dota had to make features so some parts were viewable at all whereas in LoL cosmetics are made to look good from above, which is the expected perspective 99% of the time.

There are many things in which dota is better or at the very least you can argue it is, cosmetics isn't one of those things by a large stretch.

Alright, if valve pays me $20/hour to play artifact i might play

>those drones that were defending this shit show before launch

Attached: 1498080398680.png (270x278, 177K)

Nigga, I love DOTA 2 but those korean fuckers know how to present their shit

Attached: file.png (1200x305, 422K)

The artifact reddit is honestly the most entertaining place I've visited in at least a couple posts
You cant discern anymore whats ironic, delusion, cope, acceptance anymore. Every time I go there I am thoroughly entertained
I mean look at this fucking shit reddit.com/r/Artifact/comments/ayl4kv/45000_active_playerbase_not_500_correction/

SMITE

Dead gaem

>buy game
>buy to start playing
>buy to keep playing
hmm idk rly makes u wonder

>not even dota players, for the most part, care about it.
Wouldnt be so sure about that, the old lore thread in the dev forums is massive even if nowadays its probably forgotten, there was quite a bunch of people interested in it and i think its a shame how Valve never cared to expand on the lore but rather, do granular updates for it and nods that never amounted to anything, except for siltbreaker and the coop events which didnt made any fuzz.

I think you're seeing things my man
No one wanted this, not even Valve drones or dotards, except for people who didnt care about Valve's old stuff and hardcore tcgfags once they heard it was Garfield's game.

>everyone hates even the idea of artifact when first shown
>reveal that youve got the motherfucker who made MTG on the team
>a lot of people get excited
>game comes out, rocky and needs work done
>literally nobody at valve wants to work on it anymore
>they end up firing him last week
i wonder how secretly butt mad he is

Attached: file.png (220x311, 211K)

holy shit now that is coping

>mad
Dude was making MTGA videos LITERALLY a week after Artifact was released.

Pick this: teemo.gg/model-viewer?skinid=145014 , look at the waist portion. and compare it to this : c-4tvylwolbz88x24nhtlwlkphx2ejbyzljkux2ejvt.g00.gamepedia.com/g00/3_c-4kvah9.nhtlwlkph.jvt_/c-4TVYLWOLBZ88x24oaawzx3ax2fx2fnhtlwlkph.jbyzljku.jvtx2fkvah9_nhtlwlkphx2f8x2f83x2fAltwlza_Olst_Aobuklynvkx2594z_Dyhao8.dlitx3fp87j.thyrx3dcpklv_$/$/$/$/$

but they didn't make a CS card game

I'm not saying that the LoL ones are better made dude, just that they're better SHOWN from the normal gameplay. Zeus' Arcana looks great but you can't see much for the normal camera angle and distance.

>reveal that youve got the motherfucker who made MTG on the team
>a lot of people get excited

This is something that always gets me. Richard Garfield is the author of several card games. Every single one of them is a flop except MTG. Valve would have a better chance if they had hired a nobody instead.

>that reminder when that one of the worst games in the genre in the WC3 map making scene became the most prominent simply because of its quantity over quality approach
