Fat. I own both and a lot of games have issues when played on the slim. This includes infinite loading, freezing, fps drops and black screen crashes. These same games will run just fine on the fat and only have issues on the slim. Also the fat is way easier to open up and clean.

Do you want to play ps2 games? Try & find a launch ps3. Otherwise they had overheating problems and that's why most are probably broken. If you aren't looking to take advantage of the launch fat, go with the slim model

I think all fat 60gb PS3s will die. Mine did. i got a slim and had to heat my PS3 in the oven to bring it back to life so I could transfer the data.

Slim models apparently have better lasers than the fat models, from there just chose if a 7000+(the one from op) or a 9000(some games, mainly ps1 games have problems with this model cuz it uses a different chip)

whatever works for you, I assumed that user was a console pleb but if you can run the emulator and you prefer that, go for it.

What games run badly on pcx2? Specifically?
It's pretty awesome to play ps2 with maxed out upscaling and graphics. Would never get a real one again.

yes, all fat models are 100% backwards compatible, you may need to fiddle a bit with MCBoot if you're playing from the HDD, otherwise the games run from the disc no problem.

What about PS3? Is there a similar harddrive exploit for it? While I understand wanting to use emulators to make things look nicer, for me I chase as near 100% actual console experience as possible.

You can use a custom firmware on the ps3 and run games from the HDD.

OPL works without FMB. There's no real reason to be using copied discs if you have a HDD setup.

You can launch it through the PS2's HDD menu. It's just annoying because you have to scroll down to it is all.

You can use FHDB or even a swapmagic if you have a super new Slim.

you only need to be able to launch ulaunchelf or elf in general, and there's various ways.
absurdly, if you have a chipmodded ps2 you could burn OPL on a disc and launch it from there

There's a HDD image online with OPL, ulaunchelf , GSM, etc pre-installed on it.

Just get FMB on a memory card or FHDB on your hard drive and use that, the other options are convoluted.

unless you have a friend or someone with an already modded ps2, you still require a small amount of money to get your FMBC card.
you either have to buy it premade from ebay, or use a swap magic to launch the installer, or get 007 agent underfire, and burn a modified copy of it(you need both the original and the copy) to launch the installer.
the only real free way is FHDB, but that requires a fat, and the question was about FMCB

assuming you're not talking aboiut FHDB, you can download the FMCB installer, but you need a way to launch it, and to do that you need a way to launch unsigned code, which is either via swap or modchip.

if there's a different way that only requires a USB flshdrive like you said, i never heard of it because afaik there's no way to launch anything from USB without an already modded system
