Remakes in films are seen as creatively bankrupt, lazy, cash grabs made for the dimmest of people who close their minds to films that are "dated" but gamers plead for them and praise them, why?

Nonsense, films have changed greatly too things like special fx work, practicality of shots, budgets, sound engineering, rigs, film quality, etc, but you never see people arguing for remakes of classic films because the special fx would be better today or such other things.

But for all the ways they could potentially be improved there are also plenty of ways that they could go wrong.
It all comes down to how good the company is, if they are good enough to do a remake justice then they are good enough to make a whole new game which would mean they are adding new great content to a series.
A great remake, no matter how good is ultimately retreading old ground and hindered as to how impactful it can be.
If you don't have faith in a company anymore then a remake would just be everything wrong with them currently while staining the name of the classic game.
