I feel like I'm doing something wrong with V.
His kit feels really unwieldy and I feel like I'm having trouble getting Shadow in particular where I need him to be.

how do I git gud at controlling these things

I'd say just somewhat better control of the position of his pets.

The best thing I've been able to come up with is that if you want to bring them back to you you need to do the ground dodge to bring Shadow to you and do Double Jump or Back+Gun to bring Griffon to you.
You essentially need to treat them like they're your health bars and dodge and jump as if you were the one in the crossfire.

I like Vergil though.

Even if I didn't expect much from the narative im a little disapointed in it. It felt rushed especially at the end, plus I'm not a big fan of non linear story telling. I guess they had to find some dumb way to make vergil normal again in order to keep him for potential future content/games.

Other than that, gameplay is SSS+.

Personally i find him fun I use him every chance i get. Minion positioning could use a little more polish and i wish he had 1 or 2 weak moves he can use to fight with independently as a last resort when minions go down or any form of counter attack for a succesful dodge. Sidestepping that Angelo boss fight for every swing was satisfying

A no-nonsense example of an extemely well executed boss encounter. No gameplay-breaking cinematic stuff, everything amazing is a non-intrusive and short animation and completely dependant on player input rather than QTEs or automated processes.

I genuinely think this will be high tier strategy. I put my gun on R2 for charge shots and its feeling pretty natural. Most alternate control schemes are weird but this is pretty comfy so far.

The only problem is you have to be REAL good with exceed timings, if youre too late youll do a grab instead. I feel so fucking smart though god damn

Try to focus on Shadow combos only until you get the hang of it and use Griffon only for the hold lightning pillar which is an amazing move

I have attack on triangle and Devil Bringer on circle and it feels alright though I don't hit every exceed.
The main thing I like about it is how it changes some of the properties based on timing. Like you do it with split and somehow the enemy stays in the air.

You get each revive for every boss. If you pick griffon first, the next boss starts with griffon, then who ever you revive second etc. Shadow is the easiest to start, then griffon, then nightmare. You can have more than one for each fight.

Is this possible? One of my major gripes with the game is their is a scripted loss boss fight 3 times (at least its consistently the same boss and one of the scripted losses you have to bring him to a second phase).

Mission 11 is the best mission in the series.

I'm glad BBTAG experience helped me a lot with this one. A lot of each of the pets attacks indirectly move them towards or further away from who you're targeting (swoop, guillotime). It saves you a lot of effort to be able to control them while on top of Nightmare so that V isn't vulnerable to attack while you're trying to maintain pressure.

Yeah I know but having those respective summons makes those bosses easier. Angelo is melee, and Artemis is ranged keep-away. Goliath is fairly trivial so it doesn't matter but Nightmare matches up thematically and has that special takedown.

Mistakes were made.

Griffon first with Goliath, Shadow second with Artemis, Nightmare last with Angelo. Angelo fucking melted, I just put the boys on autopilot and THE ANGEL THAT PRESIDED ON MY BIRTH for about a minute.

locking on and double-tapping forward or back-forward twice makes nightmare stop what it's doing and teleport forward, it's great for turning quickly or moving in

This is my first DMC and I'm playing it on PS4. I read in a thread yesterday that people generally recommended binding an action to R2, but I can remember which it is. His pet trio are literally condensed Mundus aids. Even if you could convince V to just live the rest of his life as a sissy human you'd still have to kill off the trio so that they'd stop poisoning him.

I think it's absurd that Yamato isn't in the game, but then I realized more than likely we're gonna get a mission pack DLC where Dante and Vergil do some shenanigans in hell, and Vergil will be playable.

Teleporting chicken and King Cerberus are probably the best monster bosses in whole series.

Haven't beaten it quite yet, but this is the easiest mainline proper DMC game ever.
Level design is literally walk forward, tons of health drops inbetween the arenas, and the AI are just Dynasty Warriors tier.

Capcom is going to make older DMCs REMAKE in chronological order soon, so the first one will be DMC 3 Remake and they will retcon Dante and Vergil not being identical twins, just twins.

There's no fucking way it's easier than DMC2 in any context.
I'd say it's about equal with DMC4.
DMC3 is still the peak in terms of Normal/Devil Hunter difficulty (DMC1 can have a steep learning curve but there's some broken shit that can make the experience fairly trivial).

As mcuh as i love wrecking shit with V doing consistent combos with him is the biggest pain in the ass i have discovered so far.

When the familiars arent on the screen and you cant see what direction they are facing or what they are currently engauged in is the biggest flaw in his gameplay.

When multiple high levle enemies are present and the battles start goingyou will normally lose track of one of your familiars even though im spamming attacks hoping im hitting something and doing damage even when locked on.

And when they go into stalemate mode you either wait till the revive while you attack power is gimped or it both of them are gone you have to navigate high lvl enemies with gimped dodging and try to avoid getting hit.
Summoning nightmare is an option,but hes so slow hes been getting ass fucking lately before he even does anything

The swords of sparda having strange effects on Vergil and Dante goes back at least to DMC3 where Dante getting stabbed with Rebellion caused his DT to awaken. They probably used that and extended that Yamato had similar abilities, which then resulted in the idea of being able to cut anything, even human and demon halves.

And no Vergil had no idea what would happen if he split. His plan was really just to get rid of his human part and become full demon (potentially to heal, not confirmed).

What nobody expected, not even Vergil, was just how fucking evil and power hungry his demon side was.

Oh, I got it. The attack parry makes it real easy. You don't even have to shoot. I parried the attack with the second attack of DSD combo 2 and the second part of the round swing instantly killed the Sin Scissor without me having to shoot.

There is no true "parry" sometimes you will get a parry out of certain enemies attacks being timed with some of yours, but it's more of a mechanic to show "look this enemy is blocking and you broke it's guard" not something you can pull off on demand.

Hit the enemy's weapon during their attack. Yes, it is that simple.

Alternatively if you want a pure parry use Royalguard on Dante, with frame perfect timing you can take zero damage from literally every attack in the game.

Agnus has gigachad body, his posture is just fucked up.

Just completed in 10 hours at devil hunter difficulty. I feel cheated it was so fucking short.
Also the ending gave me nothing. 4 had a great ending, Nero settling down with kyrie (here we don't even see her??), this is fucking shit.

First mission is a bit boring because your moveset is so limited.
Everything else leading up to Sin Devil Trigger is god-tier.
The level design takes a bit of a nosedive after that but Dante is still very fun to play.
Then it becomes kino with the final Urizen fight, Griffon/Shadow/Nightmare, and Vergil.

Be reactive towards Vergil, don't go on him until he does a melee attack on you otherwise you get punished most of the time. If you managed to get stabbed where a cutscene plays, you can use DT to break out of it and not take any damage.
When he's in his DT form, use trickster to dodge his shit and don't expect to get too many hits in unless you're DT'd. He follows the same attack strings, so like the one where he jumps up in the air and hits you, does it again, then the third time, he'll always go for a ground attack charge or some shit. Once he leaves his DT form, he'll have some the stronger attacks he had in DT form, so don't get comfortable, but you can just repeat the earlier strategy of hitting him after he misses you.
When he does his Judgement Cut (the one where he's not in his DT form and the area around him gets darker) you can either bitch out and run out of the sphere or go full ham and try to break it. I think you won't take any damage from it if you're in DT form and been smacking him, but I'm not too sure.

If you're decent at royal guarding, in his DT form, he'll occasionally summon a bunch of swords and toss em at you, if you RG them all, you'll get a good amount of DT meter. You basically just have to mash it.

Once you get the hang of how he behaves, he gets easy to bully and you can start royal guarding all his shit while feeling cool.

The one for the mayor's daughter is okay but Claire's is awful, can't believe any one thinks that's an improvement. They made her have no jawline even though her default jaw isn't that big at all. Honestly literally the only person who needs a face fix in 5 is Trish, and there are scenes where even she looks fine. The only thing Trish needs is for her nose to be fixed a bit and give her Eva's hair.

That move where you hold Swordmaster style with DSD and it creates the homing swords is really good against Vergil, they will track him and get a stagger off as soon as he can get staggered, more than enough time to get in with a Stinger. Also Gunsliger's rainstorm is the best move to get rid of the summoned swords that surround you

>just walk around in sync with Vergil
>if he uses summoned swords, shoot him and they will disappear
>whenever he teleports, a well-timed roll or Trickster dodge will get you out of there, then Stinger him and get your damage in
>repeat until Vergil uses DT
>spam the fuck outta trickster to dodge all his shit
>repeat for phases two and three, shooting the Doppelganger with Coyote-A to make it go away

I find that remapping the controller helps. You can remap shadow and griff to the shoulder buttons, so you can read books and get extra DT. Nightmare is not worth riding at all, but he revives both shaddow and griffith when he comes so use your DT when any of your minions is down
