I liked 3 for the soundtrack but I didn't like the 85 percent of the Pokemon. I like gen 5's Pokemon more. I liked gen 4s hm slave region more. Gen 6 did nothing right and didn't get a chance to fix anything

Man, Ruby is my favorite pokemon game, I prefer it over Red and Gold. Diamond sucked so much compared to it, I dropped Pokemon completely after beating it.

I feel like the combat is too simple to make a really hard game with it in a satisfying way, but imposing handicaps like using only pokemon of one type the entire game is a pretty fun way to increase the difficulty.

No one Pokemon generation is "the" one that fucked up. Its been a compilation of fuck ups over time. Gen 3 introduced god mons and villains with grand schemes, 4 ramped that shit up, 5 gave us shitty ass rotating sprites and simplified the dungeons beyond recognition, 6 was just flat out piss easy and hand holdy, and 7 eschewed all remaining player engagement for a basic ass experience where we collect pokemon in piss easy tubes with no side content, puzzles, or exploration.

This is why Gen 2 is the best. Not because it was the most refined. But because it had compromised the least from the series' original vision.

But given how little they're able to accomplish with each new entry, I suspect it would be too much work. Looking back, I'm still shocked at the amount of content in pokemon gold, and am confident that Iwata or someone else no longer there had to push hard for it.

The mud and fog and snow actually makes the region more interesting. Even after you've played the games for hundreds of hours, there are still areas that you've barely been and explored, which makes the game feel more mysterious and longer lasting. When you've played the games for so long, and it feels like you've done everything, you still have the mud, snow and fog routes to go to, which you've probably stayed away from until then. It gives you another piece of exploration and the excitement of visiting areas you don't or barely remember, even after all that time.

The problem with Stealth Rock is that it's the only entry hazard that accounts for type effectiveness. It hurts less than Spikes if you're a rock or steel. And even though it sharply punishes Flying that's probably because Flying isn't affected by Spikes whatsoever. Toxic or otherwise.

Agree that the music is mostly forgettable, that was an issue I had with it back then too.

And yeah, there are many boring, forgettable pokemon. It has too few new pokemon that aren't related to anything else.
It does, however, also have enough memorable pokemon and interesting pokemon. My biggest issue is the large number of babies and evos, giving a low number of new pokemon in total, however the pokemon that do exist aren't really any bad, aside from the decline in overall design quality since generation 1.

The problem with Hoenn's water routes isn't that they are water routes, it's that some moron decided to fill them with nothing but tentacool and winggull. The only way you can find anything else on those routes is by fishing, which is okay in theory but in most of those areas there's really nothing all that rare to fish in the first place. So they should have had Wailmer and Sharpedo on those late-game ocean routes, not the same three junk common pokemon over and over again.
