basically DMC was the first 4 games which had alot of heart and soul put into them, good challenging gameplay, silly (but interesting) stories, and likable characters.

then to reboot the series, capcom handed the rights to a western company called Ninja Theory and told them to make a game. and the game, despite having decent / good gameplay, was full of horrible design choices, bad characters, bad music, and a larger amount of swear words than the lead designer's IQ

basically was a blemish on the DMC franchise

No sequel and certain aspects of it are mocked in 5, such as how they called OG Dante a gay cowboy and now Dante has a cowboy hat that he does Michael Jackson poses with.

Not much of a shock to me. I played 1-4 and DmC but haven't really taken an interest in this, but regardless of that the appeal of a straight up action game is obviously going to be massively higher than the appeal of a survival horror.
