But hopefully the April news for Joker and the game modes are delivered via a mini Smash Direct or something.

Actually, Ultimate's sold just under 13 million according to Nintendo's last reports (which covered December alone). If it isn't already, it's soon going to be the best selling Smash game, topping Brawl.

Rool, Ridley and the Belmonts weren't bad characters, but rather focusing on the other characters who didn't have as much pull and praise and also picking a few assists that did have a notable following and comparing them. He has a point, everyone coming back is a good thing, but the newcomers suffered and the hype died with K. Rool and it shows. The other user mentioned they've been silent on the DLC since announcing it. Either those picks are going to bring back the hype or do little to rekindle it.

Assist trophies killed a lot of potential newcomers and DLC. Making Assists into DLC will only make them look wishywashy and give a notion that they made a mistake with putting those characters in that position in the first place.

Or maybe a different moveset for Daisy with different animations for certain shared moves like some of the other Echo fighters. I do agree that we could have gotten better characters obviously, so I won’t say that there is no point to be derived from it, just that the image is shit.

The oldest game at Evo now is SFV from 2016. Smash was released in 2001 and was still at Evo in 2018.
Genesis 6 from earlier this year had one of the highest Melee viewcounts in its history.

The games marketing spoiled everything. All single-player content was either a rollercoaster of I've already seen this or when can I unlock these characters already? The implementation of online was an embarrasment and the only fun left to be had is playing with IRL friends which can only happen at limited times. Although Classic mode was amazing since it was the only time you felt like you were discovering something.
I've got my enjoyment out of the game but there wasn't anything left to do that was fun after 2 weeks so I and most of the people I know dropped it instead of enduring the online

Maybe it's how his reveal didn't even use a new song (it was the same one used in the Pokémon sizzle reel for the previous Smash Direct), or maybe it's how he's the first Pokémon fighter whose generation doesn't have a stage in Smash (I'd consider Poke Floats a "Pichu" stage since it includes Gen 2 Floats).
