yeah i was pretty sad about that
they nailed it mechanically so I love the game, it's just sad seeing the scope of the campaign feel so damn narrow and low-budget. there's all this time skipping but we barely see any exciting or different locales. there's no build up or interesting progression to areas because it's all jumbled up. I'm glad they prioritized what they did, but levels could have been done way better.
it also felt like a cop out that 'ascending' was a descent, and that part was so lazy just dropping through literal holes in the ground. would have been fine if there were more variety overall, but it really stood out because it was supposed to be climactic to reach the top but you don't really get any sense of climbing or experience the height/peak, like not even just looking over the city. dante griping about how lame going around was pretty great from a character point of view, like he's tired of meaningless hurdles in the way to his objective, but it also kind of made it feel like even more of a slog jumping around blocks, not even getting a cool vista or some mixed up lighting. everything was just washed out, which is sad because the lights in the city were popping at times. I think especially as we see screenshots and combo videos and the locations are constantly the same grey stone backgrounds it's gonna start to feel like an eyesore.
