What's with people circlejerking Far Cry 2 as the best game in the series?
>The mission design is just complete shit. They're all a variation of "go to A and grab/kill/destroy B" and the game rarely gives any exposition to differentiate them, making them feel very repetitive and inconsequential. Then the side quests don't even try and just give you the same exact situation in a slightly different setting. That wouldn't be so bad on its own, but the game asks you to travel halfway across the map for every single mission, which is incredibly tedious and usually takes longer than the task itself. >Every time you drive across that map, you encounter at least half a dozen enemy checkpoints, and the devs had the brilliant idea to have the guards respawn about 5 seconds after you leave, so you get into the same gunfights in the same locations over and over again, which kills any sense of progression or pacing and after awhile the enemies feel more like annoying mosquitos than feared gunfighters. There's no motivation for tactical gameplay, despite the game's excellent sandbox possibilities, when you know you'll get into a head-on gunfight anyway in 10 minutes. >I think STALKER pulled off what Far Cry 2 came close to, but never truly succeeded at. It also features a lot of repetitive quests and traveling long distances, but it works because STALKER absolutely nails its open world filled with unpredictable dangers and the journey can often be more exciting than the mission itself. The sense of progression is achieved by getting new gear and artifacts. The sparse gunfights with longer moments of calm make each encounter all the more tense.
I liked it enough to play iy twice. Jusy liked how isolated you felt.
You're bit wrong though, it was loaded with bullshit but I did like how you can make most missions your own and approach them how you wish. Malaria was not an issue but the amount of travel needed was.
Liam Rodriguez
like with many 00s console-titles, it was the first FC / open-world shooter game of numerous Xbox zoomers. I recall nobody on Yea Forums really considering it as anything else than an overhyped poorman's STALKER clone that's pain in the ass to play, when the game was still brand new. I know I didn't put more than like a couple hours to it before I just quit and deleted it.
Bentley Wood
memes. i played fc2 on release and it was pure shit
Charles Ward
It's one of the worst designed game I ever played. Cancer seems more fun than Far Cry 2 was.
Cameron Mitchell
My nigga. Far Cry 2 is one of the worst video games I have ever played and to this day I wonder what kind of fucking retard thought that putting disease that killed thousands of people as a game mechanic was a good idea.
Bentley Evans
>I did like how you can make most missions your own and approach them how you wish Do you mean literaly approaching the objective marker from different sides because there is nothing else to it
Gavin Nelson
>real phone that you have to actually answer (instead of getting automatic messages in your ear) >real map that you have to pull out and look at (instead of going to a pause screen) >actual animations for healing yourself (instead of magic health kit heal) >fully open world (no loading screens like STALKER) >vehicles and better polish of course
FC2 improved on STALKER in a lot of ways that make it more immersive. But I still love STALKER for being more of an RPG in that when you're out in the world you can encounter NPCs who aren't hostile.
Gabriel Murphy
The rationalizations / explanations of why "Far Cry 2's narrative is amazing" are so much like the delirious sarcastic shitposts I sometimes type on Yea Forums while heavily sleeping deprivated that it's actually scary.
Nathan Butler
Wait there are people who defend the story? I like Far Cry 2 for exactly two things: Immersion and shooting niggers in the jungle
Cameron Martinez
Only contrarians on Yea Forums rave about how good FC2 is despite it being the worst mainline FarCry by a mile
Jose Rodriguez
Mission design is all the same but the mission areas have a lot of fun tactical variety because of their varying terrain/architecture. It's one of the best I've played in that regard and I've played a lot of tactical shooters including SWAT 3, Raven Shield and Ghost Recon.
STALKER is a great game but it has only mission in the entire franchise that has the same quality and depth of tactical level design (rescuing the dutyer from the bandit base in SoC)
Samuel Kelly
Yeah it's a wonderful realistic story of how African countries are exploited by anyone and everyone and how the character you pick does not matter and none of you do matters and it doesn't even matter what country it is because someone's always exploiting the niggas everywhere. Or something like that. It was essential /journocore/ virtuesignaling ala 2008.
Camden Taylor
It felt a bit like a cheap Stalker clone set in africa and I loved it for that. Very few games give you a good sense of isolation. The later games are just boring action power fantasies. Still wish the game had hostile wildlife.
It's a hell of a lot more immersive and has a lot of advanced features and graphical effects that modern far cry games do not have.
Ryan Phillips
FarCry 3 is the best.
Henry Allen
>poorman's STALKER clone no one thought like this. stalker soc was irredeemable shit on release that no one liked. it was fixed with mods and fanpatches only years later.
Dylan Cook
Far Cry 1 is the best because it's not made by Ubishit.
Carter Evans
>Fixed with fanpatches Just like Far Cry II. Or most Windows games.
Henry Cox
The only thing good about it was the fire and the grass, everything else is bad. The gun is bad the driving is bad, it doesn't even hold it's light against Stalker Clear Sky even.
It's fucking awful. Like, a truly miserable game that fails in virtually every way. The only thing it has going for it is that it is pretty.
I know some people like it, just like some people like Superman 64, but most of the game media just props it up as genius because they hate video games and just want to sound smart.
Daniel Scott
I played Far Cry 2 when it came out and I remember it being very boring and a complete drag to play despite having some really cool stuff in it.
Benjamin Perry
But people don't like FC2 most consider it nothing more than an empty tech demo with tedious mechanics and travelling.
The online was fun, shame no one played it but the first farcry was way better, I'd rather play the new dawn farcry whatever it's called than 2 again
Daniel Turner
Far Cry 2 was a tech demo pretending to be a game. It had a lot of good ideas(That were mostly abandoned by 3) that were poorly implemented or were limited by the original xbox.
Grayson Lewis
it was the best maybe thats why?
Ayden Torres
Because people took icycalm seriously. Also, "games are art" people creamed over the one Nietzsche refrence and some elements of game design & contrarians needed something to shit on other far crys with.
