>the only character to go out on his own terms
based
I really like the writing in this game and how it gave you the feeling of mystery and confusion, allowing a load of fan theories to be made.
The level design might've been a bit worse but everything else was top-notch.
Mike Brown and Manny Pardo are the same person.
HM2 was kino af. Playing it for the first time was a blast
Yah i don't get why everyone hates on it
Who was Mike Brown? The reporter?
What contributes to this theory other than the fact hes the only person he seems to be friendly with
I loved everything about it my first time through, it gets way too much shit for its ending.
Playing through hard mode makes some of the level design flaws super apparent, but I still enjoyed it.
Mike Brown is the Pig Butcher, or was it Mark?
Anyway, the theory goes that Manny kills because he is obsessed with publicity,
he hallucinates a camera team that flashes up during one of his crime scenes.
Both him and Mike assault a police station in their final level.
There's more on that from a good youtube video I watched, but I mainly believe it to give Mike a purpose in the story, he has just 2 maps and dies.
Hm its definitely reaching, if you can find that video I'd be interested in watching it though.
At the end of the day I feel like the devs tried to make things as esoteric as possible and blew it all up at the end just to build up their fanbases interest in the lore then crush it immediately
Which was in response to people legit theorizing a bunch of bullshit for their first game
So coming up with theories like that feels like a waste when the devs themselves seemed to put trolling their audience before having a deep lore.
.>yootoob bedyo me washhed :DDD
Nobody expected that ending and people were mad af because everyone died, with most stories having no full conclusion for some of the characters.
However, I think how the last level connects with the game climax is amazing. Telling the story cut into apparently random time periods was a pretty good decision.
Get a grip.
>pick Tony every single fucking time
>its absolutely flawless
everyone shits on it but goddamn was it fun
Please let this be a comfy HM2 thread.
Best plot.
>de stori dudn mak sens an dere wuz no conlushon for de caraters an windos r 2 hard lol wat is shift butn do
Reminder that people actually think this.
dumb fucker walked off a roof while ODing on !pcp. absolutely the stupidest character in the whole series, and it's really an accomplishment.
the final secret scene hard deconfirms this. pig butcher actor really was just an enormous fluke, some poor guy who managed to evoke Richard (murderousness/bloodlust, 'god of') with his method acting. pig butcher movie plot was heavily inspired by Jackets story, and served to show how the truth about the 80s wave of 50 Blessings masked killer attacks has been totally buried and lost (with possibly ALL of it just being laid on patsy Jacket as the 'crazed lone gunman'). pig butcher actors own circumstances serves to give insight into just what Richard actually is.
nu-Yea Forums memes and nothing more. it was near mechanical perfection. shame the level editor turned out ass.
This thread makes my skin the thick skin.
If the devs were really trying to "troll" the audience for wanting to theorize about mysterious shit, killing everyone in the end was the wrong way to go about it.
Just because everyone dies at the end, that doesn't really invalidate everything that happened before, historians still study historical figures that have died a long time ago, because it's interesting.
Also, his name was Martin.
I was looking for the video I mentioned but I can't really find it, another link I just remembered is that Martin goes through the police station to kill the girl as she is being interviewed as a witness, in Manny's nightmare level, there is a similar situation, but with Evan (the writer) inside.
Manny is just a really mysterious character, even Richard in the NG+ cutscene says that he doesn't understand him.
>Pig Butcher was a real actor that died on the film set because of muh Brandon Lee
I can't comprehend how some people ended up believing this instead of thinking he was a random lunatic who thought he was the star of the film. The last scene with Ritcher woudn't exist if this wasn't the case.
Years after release, I finally said it
Then explain why the director is in the prison.
Manny is just plain retarded desu.
>projects himself unto the killer vigilantes but not really
>breaks protocol like a fucking nutcase 24/7, even tipping his fucking friend to where a mob boss is at
>literaly goes and slaughters people for no good fucking reason, not even fame, he just waltzes into a boat and kills gangsters and all he recieves is a shittalking from the cops
>kills tony because he is envious of their success and shills himself to evan but isnt even real friends with him
>does grotesque tier shit murdering to innocent people and no ragreats, but then flips the fuck out in a dream
He makes 0 sense to anyone. Not a psycho, not a moralist, not a good cop, not a good friend, he just doesnt make sense, he has no ideology, no beliefs, he just goes around and tries to bang alex for ??? reason when he asks about ash
Well that's his thing, he's so strange that Richard doesn't understand him.
He digs deeply into every character's doubts and feelings when he confronts them, but Manny makes him speechless.
I didnt get what was going on and still like it.
I can't believe /hmg/ is fucking dead
The prison sequence is years before the events of the Pig Butcher, wtf are you on about?
>mechanical perfection
>corners the game
>shitty adult swim ending where "lolnothingmatters"
>forcing you into a playstyle instead of letting you choose like hm1
>You are such a bright young man, I'm sure you will get it next time.
It's an old single player game with a shrunken community, it's pretty obvious it can't support a general these days.
Manny is just insane. And not the good kind of insane, just a genuine nutjob.
Can you expand on the Pig actor/Richard thing? Are you insinuating that some kind of "mantling" took place and as a result reality started to fall apart for him?
Travis Strikes Again is Hotline Miami 3, btw
>was based on a serial killing cop
>name is the same
After this moment, the Son and Manny the Chad Pardo were my favorite characters for killing the Fans
FUCK THE FANS!
But they killed an innocent frosted flakes mascot. He surrendered.
>people who said Tony was a good boy for just watching while the rest were killing him
don't you believe it
Then I love how "good boys" get shot in the face.
Thanks Manny Pardo you really were the best, all that shitposting was for something after all
Tony was based, whike the rest had to use guns to live Tony just used the power of godhand.
PRESS R TO BUMP
I've always believed they're meant to compliment eachother, but are not the same person.
all the pig butcher scenes take place in reality and there is no film crew. he really does attack the police station and gets killed doing so.
manny pardo dreams about attacking the station and getting caught, but it's just his paranoia. he wakes up to a phone call telling him to get down there - because the pig butcher has just broken free and begun his massacre.
both of them see a film crew because manny desires fame above all else, and the pig butcher is rationalising his actions by framing them as fiction.
>forcing you into a playstyle instead of letting you choose like hm1
This is my main complaint with the game as well. It was really cool that you could chose between every mask you unlocked in the first one.
I especially disliked the soldier levels in HM2 because they are really clunky and force you to play a certain way.
is his pimp hand strong
>a couple good characters
>a million shit characters that get nuked
>bad level design
cringe game
What is this dev doing now?
Objectively shittier map design, way less replayability, story was shit, characters were meh compared to Jacket.
Yeah, I wonder why.
>You can see Tony cradling Corey's head as she bled out before Manny walks in
It's the immense attention paid to little details, creating un-told but visible stories just from them, that make me love this game.
dont talk shit about HM like this ever again, travis strikes again is barely a video game
Is there a place where all the explanations and theories are condensed?
I thought I had a good grip on the story, the alternate history and stuff. But reading the theory that all the scenes with the actor are just delusions and he is actually killing people all the time just sets me back, makes me think that I have no actual idea what's going on. Same thing with the ghost of Richard, or whatever the entity is that keeps speaking to people all over HM2.
Also what are some other games (or shows or movies or whatever) that evoke the same kind of feeling as Hotline Miami? Surreal and dreamlike but there's still an internat logic and half the fun is trying to understand that logic.
>characters were meh compared to Jacket
jacket had zero personality. what you really mean is you didn't get to self insert again as ryan gosling and now you're buttblasted.
david lynch movies
Richard is a feeling.
steamcommunity.com
The characters in this game were all great.
Whether it's Jackets hidden capacity to care, Bikers bombastic attitude, The Fans camaraderie, Mannys narcissism and paranoia, Evans (relative) pacifism in a world of violence, the story of the Henchman which perfectly captures the game's themes in only two levels, The Sons badass conquest of the underworld, Beards tired yet friendly personality and Richters caring and fatalistic attitude.
I really think they managed to perfect showing off a wide array of varying characters and stories in not that much time, often without even having to use words.
Except Jake and the Pig Butcher. Fuck those guys and their meaningless plots.
>Also what are some other games (or shows or movies or whatever) that evoke the same kind of feeling as Hotline Miami? Surreal and dreamlike but there's still an internat logic and half the fun is trying to understand that logic.
donnie darko
>Everyone treats him like he's stupid but he finds out the truth behind 50 Blessings in 5 minutes.
>50 Blessings kills him if he succeeds in fear he'll tell everyone about them but in the end if he fails he gets tortured without ever saying shit.
>Has one of the best levels in the game and each of his masks is distinct and fun.
Was he /ourguy/?
>he just goes around and tries to bang alex for ??? reason when he asks about ash
When did that happened?
>he literally just wanted to join them for real
>it's shit because it is shit
I love how people who bitch about the game can't come up with a legitimate argument
Martin Brown was important, his movie shows that hollywood is just as thirsty for violence as most of the characters, Pig Butcher was a very exaggerated depiction of Jacket.
have I finally gotten good?
have you?
it's hardmode?
Intro to Dead Ahead. He visits her house and asks about Ash ends by saying
>You must be his sister. I can see you got the good genes. You're very pretty.
She promptly asks him to leave. This attempt at flirting with a young blonde woman is similar to his "You too sweatheart!" line to the coffee girl from the opening of Homicide and it's likely him trying to act like a charismatic movie hero, note also that Jacket's girlfriend was blonde.
However, if you pay attention to the details, you can see Manny has planted a wallet in Alex's house. If you go to the trunk of Manny's car in that scene you can also find a gagged and tied up man who Manny later sees at the next Miami Mutilator crime scene where the other detective notes his wallet is missing.
It's likely Manny was trying to frame Alex/Ash and possibly the other fans for the Miami Mutilator case which he would then "catch" and become famous. The art book says they even toyed with the idea of letting the player choose who Manny frames but it was too complicated.
Is Corey best hotline?
Less replayability maybe as a whole but I replay single levels (Homicide, Death Wish, First Blood, Takeover and a few others) more often than any in Hotline Miami
>we wanted Manny to try and frame different characters depending on what evidence the player stole from the crimescenes
That would have been fucking rad.
The only moral character in the game
No. I do have all the hard mode levels on S but I haven't been able to full combo them like I have normal mode.
I've also been trying to speed-run Death Wish as its my favourite level. My record is 2 minutes and 3 seconds.
Well the only options are her, Alex, jacket's girlfriend and I guess Ninja Girl? And I've never really been a fan of blondes.
The fans didn't deserve it.
He died too soon, he was by far the funnest HM2 character to play.
>tfw thinking about midnight animal
They deserved it. So did Manny and the henchman and even jacket.
Really only Evan and Richter didnt deserve to die. Fans were still the coolest characters and deserved one or two more levels.
>have an entire keyboard of keys
>force bind dodge-roll to the same key as pick up
No. Fuck Corey for every time I've gone to pick up a pipe but accidentally cartwheeled into a room full of angry men with blunt objects.
Fuck the fans, none of them except maybe Tony were fun to play, and even then Tony is a stepdown from HM1 Tony
>pick up
I'm dumb, I meant execute.
I once sat and combo'd the entire fucking ship once. I don't know why. my score was so high it didn't print a score, it gave me the formula for calculating my score.
>Trying to execute chubster
>fucking roll instead
>get brains punched out
I still have yet to find an indie game that reaches the level of kino Hotline Miami 1 and 2 were at.
>Objectively shittier map design
Objectively wrong
>way less replayability
source: your ass
>>>>>>>>story was shit
brainlet
>characters were meh compared to Jacket
HM2 actually had characters, and gave Jacket more character with a few cutscenes than the whole of HM1.
>The Fans camaraderie
Honestly I always felt exactly the opposite, I distinctly remember thinking "man why do they have to be such assholes to each other, aren't they friends?" while playing. Especially after finding out that they aren't just dumb teenagers/young adults but actual war veterans that were fighting at the same time as Jacket was.
I wish there was just at least one more scene that showed them actually caring about each other, besides the one time where Tony was holding Corey's corpse ().
Furi.
Tony had some satisfying as fuck executions. Mark's maximum firepower was also kind of fun. Ash and Alex are weird but it's real easy to fire as ash and bait entire rooms of enemies into running into Alex's chainsaw. Corey was the fucked one. The thing about her dodge roll is that it really only works if the levels are designed with it in mind. But they couldnt do that or the levels wouldnt work for the other fans. So it's just a useless ability. Though I found fan campaigns use it surprisingly well.
daily reminder that based Biker survived the blast
I hate this so much. His mom is so proud of him trying to get his life back together and she doesn't know he's slaughtering mobsters on the side.
HLM2 was a good game but I still prefer the original over it.
This isn't a controversial opinion, it's usually regarded as the consensus
It still hurts.
Any tips on doing the brick thing achievment in HM1 ? Or just A+ everything?
also thank God for El Huervo youtube.com
Mark couldn't throw his guns and felt really inflexible in playstyle, Tony well powerful also felt really rigid in how you used him since he couldn't pick up other weapons nor had much unique traits about him like Jake's fist mask, Ash and Alex were janky as shit. The one who allows for most variety in playstyle is Corey but her ability is pointless. None of the fans were that interesting as individual characters over the rest of the cast.
Most people prefer HM1 to HM2, it's level design allows for more aggressiveness and it's masks were funner than most of the HM2 casts.
>>Has one of the best levels in the game and each of his masks is distinct and fun.
Which one are you referring to? I thought all of Jake's levels were really good.
>Furi.
I played it, it was like .01% off from HM2's kino but still a fucking awesome game.
The second one, felt like a straight up HM1 level.
Withdrawal, right? The one with the drug equipment exploding and shit?
Jake's first level had one of the best tracks though.
>Martin Brown
>Manny Pardo
I agree with the they're suppose to be complementary characters.
HM2 was meant to release as DLC for HM1 originally, and I reckon they were going to split it into 3 purchases - the Hawaii stuff and Jake stuff, the Fans and maybe Richter, and then Manny Pardo and the Midnight Animal stuff. There are complementary gameplay and story elements for these characters imo
>I wish there was just at least one more scene that showed them actually caring about each other
You do have Mark buying them pizza after Down Under and offering to do so again in the intro to Into the Pit.
But it is true that they do often berate eachother. Mostly Tony, who is an asshole and Ash who I felt was kind of an arrogant know it all.
However the fact is they have been together since 1985 and have stayed together long before they've started wearing masks. They trust eachother with their lives in combat and it's not as if they ever hold grievances over mocking eachother. Though they are still all brutal killers, affection really wouldn't be something they show. Still in the end, Tony, the most callous of them all, is so shaken by his friends death he immediately proclaims he is done with violence. Only to immediately meet his own death, discovering there is no escaping the violence of your past just as the Henchman did and alter Richter will, although Tony did so much, much quicker.
Imagine how she must've felt when he was arrested and she realized what he was doing. Must've broke her heart. No wonder Richter wanted that plane ticket.
Oh yeah he was living in the desert far away from any nuclear target. Honestly surprised there has never been a fan campaign about Biker becoming basically mad max.
Post-apocalyptic biker game when?
>Biker becoming basically mad max.
On one hand this doesn't fit with the games aesthetics and themes at all. On the other hand I don't care and want to see this anyway because it sounds rad as hell.
What's up with people hating on full nuclear warfare endings? Far Cry 5 got the same response.
For the 3 brick one throw achiev, go to Full House. Keep reloading the level until you see a brick available to pick up. Wipe out first floor, then carry brick up to second floor; this will allow the brick to be with you on second floor no matter how many times you die because of the checkpoint. Now after you wipe out the first two enemies with some other weapon, pick up brick and stand outside kitchen with brick. You'll see one static enemy surrounded by two enemies in a short patrol loop. Open the door with calling attention, and time your brick throw when all three of them line up in a row. If you don't get it, kill yourself and try again.
Yeah, it was pretty much the only map that didn't make you sacrifice any ounce of playing aggressive when using a melee weapon, Each time I do a playthrough with one of the masks feels like a completely different experience. Also the final floor giving you a bad end for dying was kino
>in his discord server
>he went on ANOTHER hiatus
People who genuinely think HM2 was better do not understand level design even a little bit. And I liked both games.
Sorry, I meant 3 kills one throw and to open kitchen door WITHOUT calling attention
give me the rundown on this I didn't pay attention to any of it during development
They're at sale at my psn store for 6$. Is it worthy?
Yes mate, go and fucking get them. Probably one of the best indies.
JUST FUCKING BUY IT
I don't know why people complain about the one in Hotline Miami. I think they mostly are just upset that their favourite characters got killed, in a very unglamorous way too.
The one in Far Cry 5 though was just a lazy attempt at shocking the player by doing something unexpected.
It's normie core writing that you can see in almost every thing that is aimed at normies, they're on average too dumb to detect deeper meanings and themes so by doing something edgy for the end of a story like killing off all main characters or other dumb twists that come out of nowhere, they can trick the player into thinking "oh wow I don't get it, this must be deep".
Okay, I've bought both for 6$.
Should I play this at chronological order, the reverse or it doesn't matter?
Apparently , the first one is better than the second one, maybe starting with the 2nd is a good idea if they don't follow in term of story
You mean both HM1 and HM2 for only $6, or for each? Either way, I'd say it's most definitely worth it. You might want to watch a short playthrough of a level or two to see what exactly your getting into though.
>Should I play this at chronological order, the reverse or it doesn't matter?
Definitely HM1 then HM2.
The story is told in a weird way but is still expected to be experienced in the order it was presented to the players at first.
This applies to every game you'll ever play, release order.
I'd go chronological order; HM1 eases you in HM2
HM2 is a disconnected plot done right. At no point is it truly confusing what's going on and when, even if you ignore the dates given to you. I'm honestly surprised people say they didn't understand it.
This is bullshit, when you play as Evan and decide to stay with your family instead of finishing the book, in the ending when Richter and his mom watch TV together, the interview with Martin Brown starts playing before the emergency interrupts the show. Martin Brown is an actual actor and Midnight Animal is an actual movie.
Retarded question, but isn't Martin dead? How are they having an interview with him? Is it the dream sequence but for real?
Hotline Miami 1
-useless ability to grab an enemy as a human shield
-combo time is drastically shorter then 2
-rate of fire for all weapons is insanely fast
-a dozen of the weapons which can spawn are utterly useless and there only for the execution achievement
-enemies cant actually use most of the weapons in the game
-the amount of bullets it takes to kill a regular enemy is inconsistent unless you use a specific mask
-enemies are inconsistent in their tracking you. They will literally walk past you to where they saw you through a window if you move to the side
-enemies can be knocked down by the weapons of other enemies killed beside them as the weapons fly out instead of dropping where they should
-even after new enemy types are introduced they rarely appear
-2 enemy factions. One of which can be killed in only 1 mission
-distracting screen effect
-sound effects are lighter. Lacks the impact of the second game.
It's the worse game. These are all minor issues and they are both great. But they still make hotline miami 1 worse then 2.
People dislike the 2nd game because it is harder and forces them to get good through memorization and reaction. Or because they wanted the sequel to focus on jacket again instead of anything new. There is a reason Dennis Wedin said that the Fans were emant to represent people who wanted the second game to be just like the first.
HM2's difficulty starts right where HM1's picked off, so unless you want the fun of steamrolling HM1 right after it's better to start with HM1.
Even with prequels?
I guess it just isn't a live show.
It's 6$ for both as a bundle.
I bought it, I hesitated between titanfall 2 ultimate edition at 6$ and both HL, this thread helped me go choose.
is titanfall 2 ultimate edition worthy at 6$ though? Or I can buy the normal edition for 5$ but I dunno if either versions are worth the money right now
Yes, always.
The Son had ten times the development Jacket ever got. In fact Jacket has more development in HM2 than HM1. The rest is subjective
Tittyfall 2 is a good game, but I'm not sure if the multiplayer has any players left.
Post your favourite tracks here
They never mention Martin's name in the interview, Midnight Animal is real but it's ambiguous if Martin really was an actor in it or not.
Martin died right before the nukes, hence why after Pardo's nightmare the cops call Pardo, because the police station is under attack by Brown.
>useless ability to grab an enemy as a human shield
It isn't useless, you go faster and can survive a hit or two more.
>combo time is drastically shorter then 2
I'll give you that, but you still have the Zack mask.
>rate of fire for all weapons is insanely fast
How is that a bad thing though?
>a dozen of the weapons which can spawn are utterly useless and there only for the execution achievement
Such as?
>enemies cant actually use most of the weapons in the game
Yeah, I agree. I wanted to see some mobsters with a sledgehammer or something.
>the amount of bullets it takes to kill a regular enemy is inconsistent unless you use a specific mask
Pistol = one-three, shotgun = one, melee = one, rifle = one-three. It is consistent, it's just that it's also implemented with the limb mechanic (you don't kill a mobster if you shoot him in the arm, for example).
>enemies are inconsistent in their tracking you. They will literally walk past you to where they saw you through a window if you move to the side
Agreed, same shit with the second game. Feels awful.
>enemies can be knocked down by the weapons of other enemies killed beside them as the weapons fly out instead of dropping where they should
Which helps extend the combo meter and makes the executions more convinient.
>even after new enemy types are introduced they rarely appear
Fatlads and dogs do appear a lot though.
>2 enemy factions. One of which can be killed in only 1 mission
Yeah, understandable. Keeping it simple, I guess.
>distracting screen effect
You mean the void around the level? More of a complaint than a con, to be fair.
>sound effects are lighter. Lacks the impact of the second game.
Also more of a complaint than a con, the sounds get the job done.
Oh, cheers lads.
PC is alright, from what I've heard. Some lads report 5K playing on Titanfall 2 today.
youtube.com
One thing I dislike about HM1 over 2 is how in 1 there wasn't any sense behind the scoring system and it existed more as a pretty light than any legitimate form of ranking.
I actually love the nuclear annihilation ending
>one of the best tracks played in the most atmospheric part is found in the secret level
youtu.be
To be quite honest, yeah, you have a point (no pun intended). But the general solution is to just do a long as fuck combos and you'll get A+/S in no time. Legit just did a run of both Push It and Execution (two levels I struggled to A+ and S rank) with Tony and got both ranks.
Shit, great choice. Into the Pit also has some nice ambient.
youtube.com
Personally, I think Abyss is one of the best levels in the game. Great song, it's an Evan level, the thunder in the background creating a feeling of dread and fear.
>It isn't useless, you go faster and can survive a hit or two more.
It's ruiend plenty of combos as I expect to kill someone and instead start dragging him around. Surviving a hit or two more also doesnt matter since the enemies have enough shots to get through that. It's useless and there's a reason the devs took it out of the 2nd game.
>I'll give you that, but you still have the Zack mask.
And there is basically 0 reason not to use the Zack or Brandon mask if you want a high score/full combo
>How is that a bad thing though?
It's stupid how quickly the uzi will deplete ammunition. IF you want to be effective you have to lightly tap the mouse button as you shoot. Again, there is a reason the devs made changes and in the 2nd it has half of its fire rate int he first game.
>Such as?
Glass Bottle
Beer Can
Scissors
Ninja Star
Dart
Brick
>Which helps extend the combo meter and makes the executions more convinient.
Hardly. If I'm shooting into a group of people I want to kill them all not kill 2 of them and then have to run up and execute the last
>You mean the void around the level? More of a complaint than a con, to be fair.
No the first game has a wavey visual effect making it look like it's playing from an 80s TV with even those lines going across the screen. It's distracting and again something the sequel did away with.
Trying to pick the better game out of HM1 and 2 is like trying to decide whether or not you prefer wearing socks on your left foot or right.
But HM2 is obviously more refined, it doesn't crash as often, you don't have to exit to the main menu and select the mission again just to select an another mask, and you aren't forced to sit through the score screens either.
The gameplay feels heavier too, HM1 feels more floaty and unpredictable, the combos are too short and the HUD doesn't communicate them well, so you won't even bother trying to achieve large combo multipliers.
>Hardly. If I'm shooting into a group of people I want to kill them all not kill 2 of them and then have to run up and execute the last
Executing exists to rack up score, it's why all those executing weapons exist.
The devs agree. This is the best track.
youtube.com
That guitar does things to me.
This picture is perfect.
But it should require someone behind a window with a gun and some fat dudes.
>1
Either way, you can always press right-click again to finish him off and go back to the gameplay. It's more of a gimmick than a feature, I agree, but it isn't as useless as you make it out to be.
>2
Tony and Jake are also fairly good at getting combos.
>3
The Uzi? I'd disagree, but you have a point. The Skorpion is in the same pit as well. I dislike some changes though, like the Magnum change. Makes Release feel fucking awful when you're trying to snipe.
>4
Ninja Star, Scissors and Brick are lethal, Dart gives you bonus 1000 points for Boldness if you execute. The other two are basic throwables, one of them is a goddamn joke weapon. Not your dozen.
>5
Depends on the playstyle.
>6
Huh, now that you mention it, I've never actually noticed it that much.
>because the pig butcher has just broken free and begun his massacre.
I thought this was because of the governmental takeover happening. The nuke drops like minutes after the scene happens
I guess you're right about that.
And also maybe a dog glitching out.
>You all came back... Why?
There's one custom campaign where Corey is going to execute Jake but ends up rolling outside the window and dying
Sounds fucking amazing, what's the name?
>guy starts making a fan-sequel to hotline miami
>shows off a game built on the HM1 code but with new features/guns/levels
>everyone is pretty hype
>even asks for permission to release it and call it Midnight Animal as a reference
>cactus is like sure that's cool
>so the thing now has an air of legitimacy
>passes steam greenlight
>creator suddenly decides he wants to make a brooding persona inspired game with a deep story and anime-influenced art
>he even fucking traces official persona art for his characters
>everyone thinks this is fucking retarded at best, deceptive at worst as his little pretentious shitpile is on steam thanks to the hotline miami name which he is now trying to distance himself from
>creator gets massively butthurt, writes a series of faggy blog posts whining, and then goes dark
>game cancelled
>creator suddenly decides he wants to make a brooding person inspired game
He got really angsty after his girl left him, from what I've heard. It was a good game. *lipsmack* What a rotten way to die.
I never said he wasn't an actor, just that his levels take place for real. the movie either wrapped up, or martin lost his shit during filming and the film was cancelled.
A Real Human Bean 2, I believe.
It doesn't hurt at all, this was shitty fanfic since day 1. Not to mention the Persona rip-off and Patreon scam.
He's a bipolar chink
Film couldn't have been cancelled. In the intro for Into the Pit you can read a newspaper about its release.
It's harder and requires thinking ahead of time instead of just quick corridor shoot
>way less replayability
t. C rank shitter
cheers luv u
Relationship issues can fuck you up for life, man
Recently started HM again, havin a blast.
Played HM2 to S rank in about half of the mirrored levels, then lost interest.
I might restart it again some day. But yeah, fuck the over-emphasis on shooting.
...

>trying to get the get a life achievement in HM
It's as hard as in real life FUCK
Is Apocalypse one of the most kino final levels in a game ever?
youtube.com
Man, getting an A+ on Fun & Games was rage-inducing. I almost called it quits, but I managed it.
Got all achievs on HM, and all I need to get all achievs in HM2 is the Genocide one. Anyone got any tips to quickly get the Genocide achiev?
NiGHTS Into Dreams
>that fucking music
Unironically yes.
bestest
Richter level where you hit the bar. Restart until the first guard has an assault rifle, kill him and shoot up the first floor but let one grunt kill you and repeat. It's still a mindless grind but that's the most efficient way to farm it.
Watch twin peaks, all david lynch movies, kiyoshi kurosawa movies (cure, retribution)
Best track, best character.
For me, it's the Bodyguard, the best hotline girl.
>the Son has styles mimicking Corey, Tony and Mark
>no Alex&Ash style because the fans killed his partner
>full comboing dead ahead hard
>get to the room with 8 giga niggas
>Except Jake and the Pig Butcher. Fuck those guys and their meaningless plots.
Jake wasn't meaningless. He was a character disheartened by seeing in country being defeated by Russia and overrun by Russian mob, and his patriotism drove him to try and do something about it. Ironically, even though he was a dumb redneck, he's, after Biker, the one who got the closest to undercovering the truth being 50 blessings.
1 girl 3 cocks
Jake was literally an autist savant. He has enough logical deduction to figure out that 50 Blessings is the one making the phone calls, yet he shows up to their HQ to rub it in their faces.
gimme source
Nah, he was adumb redneck, who hadn't gone full retard.
>Except Jake and the Pig Butcher. Fuck those guys and their meaningless plots.
all of the plots were meaningless. that's the entire core of the story.
>HM2
>cheap pixel shit game with a ginger bearded hipster on the cover
>Yea Forums loves
>YIIK
>masterfully designed game with a ginger bearded hipster on the cover
>Yea Forums hates it
Explain yourselves
>>YIIK
>>masterfully designed game
Not even close
Just fucking buy it you cunt
He didn't figure out what was going on until he actually WENT to Phone-Hom. He actually went there to try to convince them to do what 50 Blessings was already doing, since up to that moment he thought the phone calls were Russian. He's not a savant or anything, he just literally put two and two together right in the middle of 50 Blessing HQ
>masterfully designed
but I'm not a onions boylent and YIIK is trash.
It's not like Ritcher had much choice in the matter.
>katawa shoujo thread #17,012,949,993
Everyone knows Jacket fucked Alex.
>waifufags
Ironic shilling is still shilling.
HM2 could design levels with more focus since characters had fewer masks to choose from. Additionally, since there were so many characters, there was a huge variety of gameplay among the levels. I'm glad they didn't make it identical to HM1.
Taking the worst aspects of old RPGs isn't masterful design
I wish the figures weren't so fucking expensive.
But it was worth it.
Do these exist anywhere in big? Didn't save them back then.
Are Richter and Beard pretty much the definition of real human bean?
>go out on his own terms
He was high as shit and accidentally walked off the roof like a moron after killing his entire gang. That's not "his own terms"
Remember it can also bounce off walls, I think that's how I got it.
Was the level editor ever actually released?
source now you fuck
The map design was way worse for the most part though.
This bait never fails to catch a few bites
yes and every time I ask for good campaigns to play, no one has any
I didn't like the level editor desu.
I found it too convoluted and laborious.
Mapping for e.g. Doom (not nu-) is much easier.
Maybe I should try again some time, I had some ideas.
>HM2 was movie theater af
based retard
I can't even read that shit, fuck you and fuck your wojak.
richter
You do realize Manny Pardo was an actual cop, right?
>you will never play HM2 on release day ever again
DUST by MOON is the GOAT Hotline Miami soundtrack. Debate me.
It's Martin, you dinguses
Killer 7.
Pretty sure the old man at the end of the first game shot himself.
Even mediocre level design is better than randomized level design like in APE OUT
Harder and no mask flexibility
It was good, but I ain't never going back.
What movies inspired the Hotline Miami games besides Scarface, Back to the Future, and DRIVE?
BREHS...
* Cornerline Miami
;_;
killer7 is a hell of the trip the first time you go through it
HM 1 and 2 were the only good games in this unfortunate decade.
What a pleasant cock
Killer7, Pathologic, The Void (also called Tension).
MAGICAL
REALISM
Ehw, fuck that meme shit
I've never seen it but the Documentary "Cocaine Cowboys" was mentioned a few times by the devs.
apocalypse now!
possibly even Dr. Strangelove
>Start up HM2
>Corey
>First level second floor
>Already thousands of people with guns
>Forced to shoot
Yeah, fuck this game. I'm back to HM1 and everyone who says 2 is better can fuck themselves with obsidian.
Not a movie but I'd wager Twin Peaks had something to do with the games. It's on Netflix, well worth a watch. Kind of hard to go into details without getting spoilery, but there's a similar sense of mystery and unfolding character arcs like in HM2.
NAKED COREY PORNO was unexpectedly fun, playing as her without clothes was interesting and overall the level design was well thought out
Yeah, and I got A- on this one and is was an absolute SHITE run.
I suppose. I was hoping for less politics and more urban violence.
Taxi Driver then
How long has Twin Peaks been on Netflix? Do they also have the prequel movie and final season?
Was the guy who made that mod this user?
boards.fireden.net
>that tummy
Not a movie, but Miami Vice single handedly inspired tons of other medias, in videogame industry it did so with Scarface, Vice City and among others, Hotline Miami. Dennatonoften referred to it in some sketches for the game. Timeless TV series btw, NBC's website has it for free. Just watch the pilot and you'll get your mind blown for how many stuff it pioneered.
and yet picking Tony every single time is perfectly viable
I don't think so, she's entirely naked and not with bikini. It's even better when she dies because you can see more pixelated boobs and vageene. Oh and if you die with Manny Pardo he has a huge dick too.
Manny Pardo's concept was deeply influenced by Sonny Crockett too
Terminator, especially in regards to the music and manny's design

what a fucking train wreck that ended up being
may as well post these
I didnt like the vietnam levels for whatever reason
No, its Jacket who shots him. Old man just accepts it, cause he cant do shit.
>even Hand In killer7 doesn't make sense
Gagnon doesn't make any sense to me.
>that level in HLM2 where you have to control all the fans in a row with roller mobster blasting in the background
from what i recall correctly, one of the hotline devs was going through some hard relationship problems. however instead of letting it affect hotline's development in a negative way, he created the whole plot point surrounding jacket's girlfriend which added to the story imo.
point being, this event shouldnt have killed midnight animal.
I think all of Richter's segment of HM2 was inspired by real life events, too.
What do you think of Payday 2 version of Jacket/Richard?
weird lanklet loooking guy
>ywn fuck a corey cosplayer
imagine playing Payday2 unironically.
An impostor but I still play as either him or based black man 90% of the time
that guitar is fantastic
Yes, I was searching exactly these, thanks. This user took that Terminator bullshit out of his ass, Manny's design is not inspired by that movie in any way. The main reference is to Sonny Crockett, especially the Sonny Burnett persona. The music itself is a concoction of styles not strictly related to Terminator. I see way more Jan Hammer in there than anything, but it's true that there were many artists working on HM so the music branches in many different sounds and not a single type.
>tfw you'll never fuck any of them
Nigger, look at again
Do you know who kyle reese is, faggot?
Working on a cyber punk game of sorts.
Eh, it had its ups and downs and was an okay fun game, is dead now tho and no sign of any new game since the company is fucking bankrupt and with two workers running away from the swedish police for insider trading. Quite poetic.
I do and although there is a physical resemblance there isn't much else. I think you never watched Miami Vice, so you're biased and you should stop talking.
The image literally says that Kyle Reese inspired Pardo's design.
holy fuck. Come the fuck on, why are you going to try to argue this?
beautiful
youtube.com
80s Anime scroll shooter.
>Kyle Reese
>*not our guy
And even if there was written "our guy", it was for Jacket's design, not Manny's. Are you blind, user?
It's been 4 fucking years at this point.
>And even if there was written "our guy", it was for Jacket's design, not Manny's. Are you blind, user?
>KYLE REESE
>NOT OUR GUY*
>*BUT HELLO MANNY PARDO!
I'm gonna kill you
Wright, though he only killed the least amount of people among the whole cast, (That VIP guard in the first level.) I still consider him somewhat of an asshole. He beat up tons of goons while neglecting his family in producing his book. One ending even has him leaving his family. Beard and Richter only did the things they do because of circumstance.
lol, How did I even miss that, fair enough. Although what I said first still remains true
>there is a physical resemblance, there isn't much else
His overall story is an entirely different beast blatantly inspired by Miami Vice
Yeah, and I've flat out been saying "design" this whole time.
jesus user, who taught you to read?
A pretty good interpretation of him. Him looking like a weirdo seems in character.
I always imagined jacket as just being pixel Ryan Gosling
how 2 get thick skin gf
He seems like a loner and his entire diet seemed to be compromised of junk food before Girlfriend comes along. Not saying its possible, but I feel like it's better he's wonky looking.
>Corey's part in deathwish
>Soul vs Souless
yea i wonder why
Also Yea Forums hated HLM2 for the first 2 years stop being brain dead
I wasn't trying to deny that in my last post, I was merely adding something important related to the conversation, you know, that's how a discussion works.
She was an asshole anyways.
Ive been browsing this shit hole for years and this is the first time ive seen a figure collection without any faggy waifu figures, good job user. Also jacket looks great wish i got one when they released
Why Son has not tried to kill Jacket for two years?
Yea about just over a year later
He was in prison around that time, so it would be kind of hard to kill him. Maybe Son sent some assassins to kill him but they all failed because Jacket is a monster.
>tony's mask doesn't have a band aid on
wasted potential
>way less replayability
I replay some levels every now and then, or just run the whole game and take a shot whenever I die.
Replayability, for the most part, is subjective.
The editor is extremely tedious to work with sometimes, especially with how limiting it can be.
It's really fun to create a level and see it do well on the Workshop though, so it's worth it in my books.
It's just a shame nothing on the workshop seems to stand up to the difficulty of the base game, with only a few exceptions really blowing things out of the water.
>You'll never fuck a coery cosplayer
whats the point in living this life anymore
Thanks, helps add to why i love the game so much
swan milk version
>Hotline Miami 1
yeah it's alright
>Hotline Miami 2
>just more of the same
yeah whatever
So was he Richter's dad? It seemed flimsy to me but I dont see why else they'd make Richter house be filled with military stuff and mounted animal heads if not to imply there's a connection between his missing father and 50 blessings. Richter is also the only operative to recieve calls without signing up.
Fucking A, thanks a lot, user.
DUDE
WINDOWS
LMAO
Jake's plot was absurdly important for the overall story, don't say shit like that. It was a mean to convey 50 blessings' line of work and where they'll go after the bombs. It's also nice to see at least one of the dead guys in HM1 reappear and watch how and why he died in that specific place.
Wild Thing.
A campaign for Corey which manages to integrate her dodge roll wonderfully. The layout and enemy spawns actually make you look for and use opportunities to dodge roll. Some levels do feel rather samey but others are very memorable. Such as the one where Corey's apartment is invaded by colombians and she gets to use the katana, which appears in the comics but never for her in game. It's a tight, enemy packed level with a nice layout even being able to use just the Katana until the last floor if you time your dodge rolls correctly and plenty of environmental detail.
Surprisingly the writing is actually kind of good, for a fan campaign. There's not much to the plot other then Corey going around killing gangsters as the Fans do. But the personality of each Fan feels true to as they are in the their actual levels.
GINGER, THIS IS SARAH. PICK UP IF YOU'RE THERE, I'M AT THIS PLACE ON PICO BOULEVARD CALLED TECHNOIR
Former redditor outing myself to say that these were all posted to r/hotlinemiami
Why does everybody want to fuck Corey?
Protski was posting them in /hmg/ he even asked for advice on a couple of them
'Cause she's pretty much a female Jacket that's slightly more emotive.
got a mask fetish
>Perturbator is never making synthwave again
>and that's a good thing youtube.com
>was a blast
kek
Genius.
because I love her
fuck me that is spot on
Shit taste also git gud
I wished I could have imagined myself as hot bod Ryan Gosling again
If you could add in 1 extra level to the game. Which character would you give it to and what would it be about?
Careful now. Janitors might notice you.
It's very repetitive. I guess people really like that, but it wasn't for me. I just stopped playing the 1st game.
Maybe one about Jacket and how he managed himself during the prison riot. Or maybe a level to less explored characters like Jake or Henchy.
Stop asking for Hotline Miami 3 when it's already out
Trouble in China town more like.
>though he only killed the least amount of people among the whole cast, (That VIP guard in the first level.)
>he didn't take off the jacket
What? The guard was bleeding. I suppose the guard may be heavily injured but that still doesn't erase everything else.
oh no, why do I find this hot
Pretty much all of the stories that were established in the game were wrapped up satisfyingly enough imo. Maybe the Henchman could have done with another level. I'd rather have certain levels changed rather than another being added desu.
Evan Wright is a good person. Even if you end up choosing book over family he still buys Richter that plane ticket and the interview with Ellen he has shows he's concerned largely with bringing truth to the people, which is kind of noble. Still, the default ending if you play Apocalypse just from the menu is him staying with his family.
However, unlike Beard or Richter Evan was actively seeking something. Richter and Beard were unwillingly thrust into the conflict. Evan sought it out. One could say he "asked for it" even if you play him full pacifist.
Alright how'd you change levels?
hol' up
Who/What is Don Juan?
The only level I have any real complaints for is Takeover, it's just too large and (mostly) symmetrical, as a result it often ends up playing incredibly slow and boring in comparison to pretty much every other level in the game.
Every level besides Takeover is brilliantly designed and offers a great challenge while keeping things fast paced and intense, but when you reach that final level it slows to a crawl.
I agree. Take Over is the most annoying level especially on hard mode where every floor has 2 pairs of Dodger + Thug.
Only played these games on pc, I can't imagine playing them on console. Does it actually work well?
Thinking about getting them on PS4 as they only cost 6 euro combined
Is Jacket top tier or are The Son or Manny as deadly as him?
Get get get get got got got got
Blood rush to my head bit hot lock
It's either Jacket or the Son at the top. The Son is as deadly as all the Fans and he takes over the entire criminal world in a month. But Jacket has the highest body count including assaulting an entire police station and killing the people who the Son gets his stuff from in the first place.
Manny is just a gun-ho cop. Fuck for all we know his levels aren't even real.
>The outro to Caught leaves it up in the air who Pardo is planning to shoot with his Magnum, and the outro to Apocalypse reveals he's too fearful to go out and shoot anyone with it. This seems extremely paradoxical given his Dead Ahead mission's having more enemies on it than any other level in the series by far. In addition to all of this, the intro to Homicide ends with Pardo saying he's going to go get some sleep before the main level starts. Though it's entirely possible he was lying to Sweetheart, the nature of Caught and the Magnum casts the context of Homicide and Dead Ahead into suspect.
Agreed, nothing from the earlier albums comes close to The Uncanny Valley
The answer is clearly Beard or at least close to, that fucker earned his way out of Hawaii
feels like the dude doesn't know where to go
new model was weird as shit, not really bad, just weird
that new track sounds so much better in comparison, can't wait for the new album
I really love both but I feel like 2 has almost a delay in its control input (miniscule mind you) compared to the first. Feels like its slower or heavier, or maybe there's more attack on the input or something.
Still love it to death though
His perk deck is fun
>finally got the free time and friends to play payday
>it's dead
Maybe i'll just sit in my safehouse and play the jacket lines to myself
Concept art Beard looks like a bro, and not a geeky bro.
For a while now. They don't have the movie or season 3, but do have the first two seasons.
>Don Juan
Definition of Don Juan. 1 : a legendary Spaniard proverbial for his seduction of women. 2 : a captivating man known as a great lover or seducer of women.
yfw a girl fall in love with you, but is in a similar situation to jacket in HM1
would you still date her?
would you help her in her "fight"?
No thanks I want to live.
well let's not get hasty. Naked Tongues and Humans Are Such Easy Prey are two of my favorite songs of his, but he definitely deserves a break from synthwave.
a lot of the top synthwave artists have been complaining about the genre stagnating, so it's not like this comes as a surprise anyway.
nah, he knows what he's doing. he's got a side project that sounds fairly similar to the New Model style but with less emphasis on synth. it's pretty good shit, if you haven't heard it.
enfantdelaforet.bandcamp.com
Well memed
This game has NOTHING to do with Hotline Miami. The game puts you in a ring to fight some bad guys and you have healthbar. It's not about level memorization but pure reflex.
Thanks
Just beat HM2 a day ago, is there any extra endings/levels that I could've missed?
Abyss is the only hidden level, you have to actually clear the final floor of Jake's last mission without dying (cuz otherwise you get dragged into that whole cutscene). Then you gotta pick up something during the next cutscene.
Abyss is the sole bonus level. You get it by beating Withdrawal without dying on the third floor, then during the following cutscene when Jake is sitting down alone you can pick up a floppy disk during the cutscene following that you can have Evan pick the disk up and unlock the bonus level. Other then that the only difference in the ending is whether you choose to have Evan write the book or reunite with his family. Oh and if you beat the game on hard mode you get a nice little poem related to the games themes
en.wikipedia.org
There's also a meta-heavy bonus scene with Richard talking to every single character whenever you start a new game
