Dualshock 4 for PC

My Xbox one controller broke just around the launch of DMCV and I was thinking of trying this one, does anyone have any experiences?
I read that you can make it work with any bluetooth adapter that is bluetooth 3.0 and newer, is it true?
I know that Microsoft has the upper hand when it comes to compatibility but with steam big picture support and ds4windows the only problem that I will run into is the occasional xbox prompt right? I would imagine newer AAA games would add innate support (I think that's the case with DMC). Feel free to drop any anecdotes you have.

It's the same as using an xbox one controller, it's preference at this point. DS4 does have a touch pad that you can use as a mouse also. That's pretty much it.

The only problem I have with Ds4windows is that Forza doesn't recognize the controller if I don't choose the Hide DS4 option. Other than that, it's quite comfy.

Steam supports DS4 natively. Any game launched through Steam (including non-Steam games added to your list) will work with it, baring some rare exceptions.

lurking

barely games on pc support it and ds4windows sucks ass

Many games made in the past few years have native DS4 support, they will switch DS4 button prompts when they detect it. The most recent games i've played with a DS4 are the Yakuza 0 and Kiwami ports, because fuck doing the karaoke sessions with the keyboard.

You need at least Steam running in the background to use DS4 with a bluetooth dongle.

Steam BPM configurations allow to rebind the buttons and make use of the touchpad and gyro. DS4windows gives you access to even more features but i haven't found the need to use it in a long time.

Literally every game I've played with controller support on has either worked out of the box with it or works once launched through steam.
The only annoying part of using a DS4 controller is that keybinds in games still use xbox visual inputs. Some newer games have support for playstation buttons, while others need mods. If you've gotten xbox button muscle-memorized though, this probably won't be a problem for you OP.

Will I have to use big picture or just launching a game through steam is enough?
I also don't imagine it would have any problems with emulators right? At worst I use it through ds4w.
Also, any experience on the bluetooth thing? I don't want to pay 25 to sony for their shitty proprietary dongle. I have a micro-usb cable lying around but I would like to use it wirelessly.

I've played on xbox and playstation so much of my life I never have an issue with this. I feel most people don't and it's just autism where they want the prompts to match, not because people find it confusing.

You don't need to use big picture, as long as your dualshock is connected to the pc before you launch steam you're golden.

It switches to BP by default but you can disable it and you don't need BP on to use the controller for game input.
It works with any bluetooth receiver, I have it syncd to my laptop for playing emulators when I'm not home.
Some people just aren't that comfortable with controllers period. It hasn't really been an issue for me personally, but my DS4 threw off some friends and family before when they used it.

It's almost perfect for me but in some old games or games made with Unity I get unstoppable camera spinning in-game

>It switches to BP by default but you can disable it
through Steam settings?

Tip: if controller is acting weird or is not being detected fiddle with the "hide dulashock4" option in the ds4windows.

>Also, any experience on the bluetooth thing?
I don't use it much but I know it works. It uses ANY Bluetooth 3.0 dongle, mine's a cheapass one that's like 5 bucks when I bought it years ago.

There used to be a lot of issue connecting via wireless with DS4windows but now Steam just seems to be able to handle it with no issue.

You do not need to launch a game through steam for it to work if there is native support. The advantage of launching through Steam (even for non-Steam games), is that you can setup per-game configuration profiles (DS4windows has this feature too IIRC)

You do not need to launch through Big Picture Mode but all the controller related settings can only be accessed through BPM.

I don't think Steam gives you access to the light-bar options, i'm not sure how you even check the battery levels when using DS4 with Steam

It works usually but i get an effor that ds4windows can't emforce exclusive mode due to some windows startup services (explorer.exe itself?)

Ds3,ds4 and Wii u pro are first class citizens in linux :^)

No only can you change the light bar colour, but you can assign a colour to a user. Steam really though this one through. This is also true for the steam link, which you wont need a dongle for.

How is DS4 Windows vs SCP Driver Package?
I think I installed it way before DS4 Windows even came about and never bothered to uninstall it seeing as it works.

do not use a wireless controller to play DMC5. you are adding delay and fucking yourself up. the dual shock 4 v2 can communicate over usb, use it.

Is 3-4 ms really that big of a deal?

I used to use SCP but randomly it started acting up like crazy and all my inputs were delayed and shitty and I never figured out why. Been using DS4Windows with no issues now.

I saw a graph saying DS4 is less delayed over Bluetooth compared to USB. Is it true for PC?

only used scp for on my old ds3 controller and i haven't used ds4windows since the steam api thing supported ds4. also like an user said above there's quite a few games that support it natively now.

I use one to play rocket league, and some older beat em up/GoW style games like force unleashed. Usually have to use ds4windows, but once you do I've found the experience pretty solid, with the slight annoyance of the button prompts being xbox style in a lot of games.

>using Steam to start emulators and windows 10 games
Why? Just use Ds4windows.

>why use one thing when you can use multiple things?

Steam is far easier if you don't need rainbow lightbars and has far less pairing/detection issues, try it out.

OP here thanks a lot everyone, I'm getting one.
