- Take every opportunity to play co-op or team based games as a group. I met my best friend of 9 years through a session of three player Borderlands with a mutual friend. Neither of us talk to said mutual friend, and I never played Borderlands again as it didn't interest me, but I'm still extremely good friends with the guy I met through it.

- Take part in sub-communities, and especially try and contribute content to them. That can mean anything from making a mod for a game, to doing funny photoshops. If you do things people like, they will like you. This is especially true in smaller communities for specific game fandoms.
