I am shocked just how bad the writing is in 5 on every level.
Terrible, terrible failure on that part, though the gameplay is great.

V is the only thing that I enjoyed from a writing perspective, he won me over in the course of the game. Otherwise it just relied on you loving the characters from 3 and 4 and failed to do anything interesting with the cast.

Nah they’ve said before that this is the end of the Sons of Sparda storyline but not the series. Nero will be the focus of the next game or two with new characters as well in addition to the returning ones like Trish and Lady. Dante and Vergil are bothfinally at peace doing what they love most for the rest of time; beating the shit out of demons and looking cool while doing it. If they reappear in future games it’ll probably be as like cameos or boss fights, like they get sucked through a portal made by whatever Demon is trying to start shit in the human world and see Nero and are like ‘oh shit hey Nero looks like your keeping things under control back here, btw let’s fight for shits and giggles before we go back to hell’. You can bet your ass that they’ll be DLC characters in future games though.

Dante disappointed me a bit in 5. You can no longer combo out of Dance Macabre like you could in 4, and DT doesn't seem to add as many properties or effects to attacks like 4 did, except for the Dante sword, which I also dislike; It allows the player to be spammy, and completely changes the established inputs for old abilities.
Just the whole concept of having two similar weapons and splitting the classic moveset between them is really bad. Why doesn't the Rebellion have Drive? Why doesn't DS have Dance Macabre? I don't know which one to settle with, and you can't even equip both.
Nero on the other hand, is fucking amazing to play. He has almost everything you could ask for from 4 and way more.

Just finished the game and genuinely not sure how to feel about the ending. I've always liked DMC being a little goofy but it sort of rubbed me the wrong way that they seemed to boil Dante and Vergil's relationship down to a silly sibling rivalry and not them fighting over the fate of humankind. It felt a little /too/ goofy. Am I alone in this? Curious what other people think.

10/10 game otherwise, though. Probably finally surpasses DMC3 as the best in the series.

There is plenty you can do for the next game. You can have the return of Mundus or some corrupted resurrected form of Sparda that his descendants needs to put to rest.

Their sibling rivalry basically escalates to these huge incidents, but the rivalry is still the root cause of their friction. Nero slapped both of them around and made them realize that there's no reason for their animosity.

Family relationships can be weird. It seems obvious that they don't need to kill each other, but I'm not surprised that they didn't realize it.

DMC3's story starts out with Dante going to fight Vergil just because he doesn't like him, but by the end he's stopping him because he wants save humanity. I don't think I really like how DMC5 suggests that nah, Dante was actually just a manbaby who wanted to show his brother up all along.

I went right into SoS. I'm kicking its ass just as hard as I kicked DH's. All S ranking on Prologue and the first 4 missions. Plus, I only got A ranks on four levels on DH, so they shouldn't be hard to clean up.

Run around in circles until you activate his cat surfboard. Use it to lunge off the edge. After falling for a bit, use the teleport finisher (RB+B I think) to get some distance and then double jump to have Griffon carry you to the piece.

Pro tip: Disabling lens flare removes the censor from Lady and Trish's naked scenes

It's the same facial capture model, but various factors change the perception of it.
For instance, while it's still the same face, the expressions and "resting" faces that they make are different both due to character traits and VA mocapping.
Vergil's hair also isn't covering his face leading to it being seen in a different type of framing.

Vergil splits himself thinking his demonic side would be powerful enough if it wasn't held back by his human side. But then the demonic side went and killed an entire city. The human side seemed to empathize with humanity a bit more, and realized his own foolishness, Which probably contributes to them finally not trying to kill each other.

After I beat the game I decided to move Devil Trigger to R1, Breakage to D pad, Devil Bringer to O and Devil Breaker to R2.

What's stupid is that you have both Snatch AND Wire Snatch, instead of Wire Snatch just getting replaced once you beat the game, so the game expects you to R1+R2 to use Snatch. They're functionally the same minus the fact that Snatch gets its multi snag upgrade when in DT.

For what it's worth I did mission 13 and despite constantly getting notifications about other players I never saw any.

I honestly don't remember them having it in the demo, I thought it was reserved for devil hunter and higher (demo was set to human)

So after Mundus got fucked, Vergil was freed but dying, he steals Yamato from Nero and splits himself, but V continues to die while Urizen goes out of control, then Urizen gets almost killed by Dante but V merges back with him and Vergil is perfectly fine again? Why did V merge back with Urizen? Was that part of his plan all along? Was his talk about him being remorseful for his sins genuine? Did the apple Urizen eat have something to do with it? Why is Vergil's human side a young goth guy with tattoos being followed around by his regrets manifested as Mundus's minions for some reason?

I think the Vergil fight was great, but I'm not entirely sure if his character is "right". He feels off. I don't want him to casually talk to Dante. What made him so good in DMC3 was that he had an aura of royalty to him, and you could tell he was fronting in his pursuit for power because of something else. So of course it's because he needs power, because of what happened to him and Dante as kids.

But now in DMCV we see him and Dante being casual, and not only that, but he's now constantly shown losing. So now he's not threatening and he lost character traits that made him great. Maybe it's because Urizen was hyped up, and he felt properly badass. Vergil just seems off. Like he shows up, feels bad about stuff that happened in the past, then it just... stops. Now it's wacky crazy pizza fun times in hell with his brother.

I don't really hate it, but damn, it feels odd.

It works greatm you can essentially cheat out exceeds by sliding your finger from triangle to square.

On normal difficulty, I found it a lot harder than 4. A lot of the later bosses kicked my ass, which is more than I could say for 4.

13 is a full co-op mission and to tell if they are players they should have next to their name some short of

C'mon dude. Tweak the style meter and style rankings. It's too lenient. Give common enemies ranged attacks to counter guys in the air and increase aggresiveness. Add them while they're at it.

I think 3 has the better standalone story, but 5 has the better story when taking the rest of the series into account. It's drastically improved by 3, 1 and 4.

dude capcom has specifically been making all their games to win the fans back, especially since inafune left. RE7 was for the fans, RE2 was for the fans, Mega Man 11 was for the fans, DMCV was for the fans, Monster Hunter World was for the fans. They want everyone to love them again so I imagine they're gonna try and get marvel vs capcom and street fighter right next. There's no telling where they'll go from here but the people in charge want their fans happy and don't want to outsource everything so they got rid of inafune. vergil doesn't seem very sorry for the demon invasions he caused. i'd like him to be redeemed as much as someone culpable for mass murder can be and if that was the intent in the story of this game they missed the mark. v is great as a character development tool for vergil, but it doesn't work if the man remains stubborn and proud.

It's overdesigned, it doesn't flow well, it looks too organic rather than sleek like other DTs, the legs are all sorts of fucked up, I dislike the horns and hair. The wings are the last of the form's issues, Vergil's Beowulf DT had "wings" and it's my favorite in the series.
