Giratina battle theme is pretty dope
>no auto-run
Nah.
Hello
Should I buy Y? Haven't played it yet
Listened to that on my way to work tonight. My favourite mix of that song. All the other remixes just don't feel right. Some add too many instruments and drown out that signature tune near the beginning
You should pirate Y, it has the weakest story and annoying "rivals"
Id's shid.
do not buy.
> until 3rd gymn wild are like kanto mons only
> still slow as fuck
Gen5 mate. Bw2 is the last good thing happened to this franchise
XY gets a lot of shit but I think it's pretty solid
>Huge selection of pokemon from very early on, tons of variety per route
>Lots of small quality of life features
>One of the better stories in the series
Main issue is just it's casualized, and that there was no sequel or third version
>it has the weakest story
Like fucking hell it does, fuck off with this shit.
Team flare are lame, but Lysandre is one of the better evil team leaders, he and the plot itself are far better then it was in RBY, GSC, RSE, or DPPT
>be me
>never played a pokemon game
>friend suggests this one
>ok cool
>suggest I do a nuzlocke with random starters
>ok cool
>lose 6 pokemon and almost end the run
>friend suggest I stop playing
does it get easier or harder from here?
The last Pokemon game I really loved. Good times.
Man that's pretty wild, sounds more like a track from SMT than Pokemon. Reminded me of this
youtu.be
Post games you're playing
>Leafgreen - Victory Road
>Platinum - Victory Road
>Black 2 - Opelucid City
>Y - Frost Cavern
>about to start Rising Ruby romhack
I picked up a new game of Crystal a month and a half ago and then dropped it at the Park/Sudowoodo because I realized Crystal's design is too primitive to be worth playing through for a technical, fair challenge.
>Lysandre is one of the better evil team leaders
KEK
No
So I'm reading that you made excuses to quit because you couldn't do it. Got ya.
Fap to it
Don't shit up my nice pure thread with porn.
good thing it's censored since we are on Yea Forums
Gangbangs are cuckshit.
everything is since you are obsessed with it
This BW2 literally the best in the entire series
Look at this motherfucker.
I just completed Emerald on an emulator on my phone. Just migrated my mons to a PC emulated Platinum that intend to stick on a R4 card and transfer to my legit copy of Platinum and bring my boys through the rest of the series
>Human shit
Nah
Emerald Ruby > Platinum Diamond > XY X >= BW Black > SM Sun > HGSS Gold > BW2 Black > FRLG Red
Yiff in hell
I only played Diamond back in 2007, what makes this game better than it?
Gen 4 remake when?
Sinnoh had the coolest gym leaders and comfiest region, someone try to prove me wrong. Oh and the best anime too
Too slow and the region is boring
A more fleshed out story and postgame.
Speed increase, I think.
Better Pokemon selection overall, and with that, arguably improved trainer teams.
Some other miscellaneous additional content I can't be bothered to look up.
Nah pearl diamond and platinum were not as good as emerald
After ORAS are you sure you want that? For whatever they fix they're going to fuck something else up.
Faster surfing speed and more Fire types
>that part where Giratina leaps out of the portal and devours the screen
Best box legendary
>he still wants it
man protagonists really went to shit after gen 5
gen 6 for the girls
I really don't want a remake given the current state of the series.
they are the best subjectively but have their own flaws each
"Best Pokemon Game" is a matter of picking one's own poison
While Platinum was a massive upgrade to Diamond&Pearl, I find BW2 to be the superior pokemon game. But a Sinnoh remake based on Platinum is probably what I look forward to the most since after BW they have shown they can't make good new regions worth shit.
Pearl (Nuzlocke) - Canalave City
SS - Postgame fuckery
BW2 - Postgame fuckery
After Pearl I'm probably going to go back to play Yellow.
BW2 designs are low tier and Red's outside of Gen 1 is the worst, though
you can't throw a blanket over this
Well, it was the worst until USUM
You are.
>BW2 designs are low tier
Disagree
Calem is French, cut him some slack.
Hi HeartGold!
Calem is ridiculously popular in fanart
Post teams I guess
Only gen 4 team pic I have
I didnt play ORAS. Was it that bad?
no, people are just pissed it didn't have battle frontier
It's funnym you are not Pokémon Y/MOON
They didn't have any of the emerald exclusive content like battle frontier.
One of the best. I'll give you that.
It painfully easy to the point that you were handed a mega evolving legendary before the 6th gym. It also had minimal content with the Battle Frontier from Emerald being cut. There are a lot of other issues as well, but those are my main two grievances.
It look good though?
sprites > ugly basic 3d models tbqh
Visually it's fine but the actual game is lacking
it isn't just ORAS to be concerned with
Jesus the last 4 is such zoomer shit it makes me want to puke. SS is same.
OLD THING GOOD
NEW THING BAAAAD
>lysandre is the best
>i love beauty, so everything else must die for the beauty
>except you pay me 3million. Then you can live
Its way better than R/S but not as good as Emerald in several ways - whereas FRLG and HGSS are flat out upgrades. So in that sense its somewhat disappointing. I still really enjoyed the game and consider it an improvement over XY, though.
Masuda and GF in general are just fucking lazy nowadays, which is the biggest problem. LGPE is a horrible mark for the series future and makes me extremely nervous about gen 8.
that's not what he's saying at all
Gen VIII has already been shown to be more of the same
>shitting on Hilbert
Worst taste fucking imaginable
More of the same as LGPE? Not really, retard. Don't reply to me again, I'm more informed about the series than you.
>pic related
the feeling's mutual
>tfw you played Gen 4 so much that you can't remember your first team or first playthrough
>when I try my mind is flooded with memories of all my teams from the past decade and can't remember my first group of friends that helped me back when I was a kid
I hate it. My only memories of my first Gen 4 playthrough was that I had an Infernape and how happy I was when someone told me that if I go to Route 214 when I beat the League a path would open for me to find Giratina. That shit blew my mind back in 2007
>lazy
No user this, we need to release every year a new pokemon game or else everyone will forget us mentality is the problem. Their team has a size of 100 people, who do testing, art, deving, models, planning.
why the fuck does the emerald protagonist wear shorts on pants?
>Emerald - Did a run with only Bug types, completed battle frontier.
>Renegade Platinum - Got to Canalave but waiting till I finish my other roms
>Sacred Gold - Currently on Kanto
>Yin White 2 - Beat the League, then went on to Sacred Gold cause gen 4 was the last gen I liked the Pokemon of. Volcarona is dope though.
Secret post game mons are the fucking shit.
I remember trying to decipher the braille murals in emerald with my friend to find the regis.
Also all the teasing the games would do with mysterious blocked off areas or cryptic shit like mirage island or the rocket count at the space station.
Fuck I love emerald.
Maybe you shouldn't do a nuzlocke if you've never played pokemon before. Nuzlockes are a self-imposed challenge for people that have played pokemon a bunch and want some challenge in the game. Platinum is one of the, if not the hardest, nuzlockes. If you're unfamiliar with the series I would recommend that you just use normal starters and use whatever pokemon you think look cool.
>they're not lazy
Yeah fucking right. What you say is indeed part of the problem though, but they've been a "yearly" thing for quite some time.
I was pretty sad when I checked my Black 2 hall of fame records and saw that the older stuff was being overwritten by the newer stuff. At least I still have my original Platinum and SS saves I have two Platinum carts for when I want to replay it
>Distorsion world
>allright time to beat this motherfucker
>It's shiny
>mfw
youtu.be
Agreed. This is mainly what turns me off from playing BW2.
Just a heads up, Platinum is one of the hardest games in the series to Nuzlocke. Shit gets very tough as you go and never really eases up.
the dead spirit of Japanese youth fashion
>pants
they're jogging pants though
I fucking did the braille stuff with my friends too, I remember there being some hints in the manual? But we couldn't even speak English back then (Eurofags) so we had 2 languages to decipher, it was fucking sweet. Sadly by now internet has ruined me.
I love Emerald too but the phys/spec split not being properly in sucked and the cryptic shit being event stuff instead of being unlockable in the game was lame as hell. I only found out it was event shit like 6 years after.
Your friend is fucking with you
platinum pearl diamond had some really good music
youtu.be
youtu.be
The braille alphabet is in the manual.
Yes, you had to translate them using the manual. The phys/spec split is why I think pokemon wasn't really competitive at all until D/P, but as a single player game emerald will always hold the crown in my heart.
Shortly before Emerald released, little kid me discovered Serebii.
Kid me had no measure of restraint or understating of why you would want to go in blind, so I knew pretty much everything about each game before it released.
I didn't go in blind again until X and Y.
youtube.com

The piano focus in DPP was great.
yeah, i solved it with the manual together with my friend, he also told me that there was some kind of tower right above the floating town, where you could find super high leveled pokemon, but i never managed to reach the top as a kid. then there was the white rock in the rocket place where after 100 successful launches you could catch jirachi or deoxys
>those rocket launches
That shit was literally my "mew under the truck"
GRIM reminder, Johtoddlers
Haven't played Pokemon since the GBC original. And seen Pokemon anime till Gen 2-3.
This good place to start?
Reminder that both are easy as shit and you should play romhacks if you want any semblance of fighting a decent team?
yes
full coverage offensive movesets aren't decent teams
No play Emerald and if you love KANTOOO Firered/Leafgreen first. Then pick up Platinum and after that either HGSS or BW2. Play Drayano's romhacks if you want a bit more difficulty since I assume you're not like 7 years old anymore.
you tell me, boomer jr.
True but the big boys in romhacks generally have an okayish lead to start with. Thing is, your not getting more difficulty from pokemon AI than that I think... Although a BW2 hack I played (Think it was Ying/Yang B/W 2?) had really well put together teams who had items, setup, coverage all on point.
But yeah if you're feeling competitive Showdown is your best bet, not single-player romhacks which is a shame.
Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, BW / BW2
Diamond Pearl anime.
Im playing Soul Silver, first Pokemon game is like 12 years.
Kinda boring. Im at a bit where I have to capture birds and the encounter rate is annoying as fuck. And there hasnt been a single Pokemon worth capturing yet.
Showdown *was* your best bet like 3 years ago, before SM
you got meme'd
Johto games are overrated
good thing some romhacks are made to a higher standard
>Playing BlazeBlack 2
>Get to second gym leader, poison type
>leads with a koffing
>sets up 2 layers of toxic spikes, then normal gem boosted selfdestruct
I hope you're not telling me you think single-player SM is difficult... But if you're talking about the multi-player, what has it got over Showdown?
no, you misunderstood me
twist your brain a little
Should I drop it? B/W2 map looks boring as fuck
Ah, I see. I'm sorry fren and I'm afraid you're right.
For me Hoenn and Sinnoh have been the most fun to explore, it does help that I played Emerald and Platinum respectively so all the extra post-game shit to discover was in.
Have you ever played a gen 5 game? Unova is great.
Gen 5 also gets praised to high hell beyond what they actually are
tell me, what are you looking for in a Pokemon game?
For all the shit that Unova gets, it undeniably has a genuine appeal for fans of non-Pokemon JRPGs.
>And there hasnt been a single Pokemon worth capturing yet.
You're 8 badges in and you say that stupid shit? Have you tried actually looking for anything to catch?
im 2 badges in mate. by birds i mean farfetch'd. my starter pokemon is already level 25 and wild pokemon are at max 10, so i feel like ive ruined the game for myself already.
i want to get stuck into the cool shit and not be bogged down my lowly trainer 'battles' and not have to wait to Run from shite pokemon encounters all the time.
>my starter pokemon is already level 25
Found the fucking problem, phoneposting fag. Pokemon games are boring if you just solo with your starter
Quit it, and grab Storm Silver/Sacred Gold of the internet. If level curve or difficulty is your beef then this will help you greatly.
but to answer your question: you can drop it if you understand why Soul Silver isn't appealing to you
otherwise, you can just rush through the rest of the game and finish it---not like that will give you any sense of fulfilment or accomplishment, though. It'll just be a badge that says "I beat it" which allows you to talk about it online without getting AKSCHUALLY'd because you didn't beat it
>im 2 badges in mate. by birds i mean farfetch'd
not the guy you tried to reply to, but I know what you meant
>my starter pokemon is already level 25
that's not that bad. this game may seem like it can't offer you any challenge, but depending on your starter, you may have trouble dealing with the gauntlet of trainers thrown at you, even with items on your side. Silver at that town is really hard to beat if you have a Solo Chikorita because of Gastly and Cyndaquil, for example, and Bugsy's gym doesn't make it any easier.
Whitney's Pokemon are in the low 20s and it definitely won't be easy to beat her with a solo Quilava
>wild pokemon are at max 10, so i feel like ive ruined the game for myself already.
What I'm trying to say is that wild encounters are largely easy to deal with, but the trainers become a problem when you think of them as an aggregate instead of focusing on every single encounter by itself
>i want to get stuck into the cool shit and not be bogged down my lowly trainer 'battles' and not have to wait to Run from shite pokemon encounters all the time.
Well money isn't that big in this game, so just spend a lot on Repels. You aren't missing out unless you haven't looked up a guide to see what Pokemon appear where. For example, did you know you have a really slim chance of finding Dunsparce in Dark Cave? Stuff like that might as well not exist for the rest of your playthrough unless you do research or are quite lucky to encounter them.
As for cool stuff, Johto has some of the smallest towns in the series and very little environmental variety. Emerald by contrast has some of the best exploring in the series.
Correct
Replaying Pokemon Black 1. I sold my original cart for some reason, so I bought it again. Is it weird that its oddly refreshing to pick it up again? I don't get the same feeling with something like Gen 2, 3, or 4. I play them for like a few gyms and get bored, but both Black 1&2 I can pick up and play much easier from start to finish. I like my dumb smug snake.
It helps that it feels really nice going from BW1 to 2 with the memory link stuff. I've probably played through Emerald the most but gen 5 is very fun to replay, particularly BW1 towards the end.
Is that even good? While toxic spikes x2 is definitely strong, at the 2nd gym I imagine you don't have a full team of 6. Plus koffing wouldn't probably live long enough to self destruct in that scenario if you had a special attacker lead.
the gems were dumb in my not that guy opinion
>Archeops with Flying Gem and Acrobatics
Gems were fucking bananas, basically proto-Z moves in terms of power.
I bet Unova lovers are unable to name genuine flaws with BW and BW2.
I could if I wanted to, but why would I want to do that, user? Why don't you list some flaws with BW and BW2?
imagine if archeops didn't have defeatist.
ugh.... if only
I misremembered, it was actually a Trubbish, and it would selfdestruct if it got 1 hit away from being KOd, like if you dealt more than half HP in one hit it would selfdestruct as its next move.
yeah, that's why they're bad
Alright, i'll get B/W2. anything i should know before going in?
Not really, they're one-off items. Its a risk/reward that incentives smart plays. If you're going to bitch about gen 5 meta, bitch about weather wars.
Remember to have fun.
>Pokemon designs were largely either ugly (Conkeldurr), outside the spirit/aesthetic of Pokemon (Vanilluxe) or clones of Kanto Pokemon lines, limiting choice of bros.
>Pokemon were unbalanced, with intentionally bad ones (like Serperior-line) vs overpowered ones like Ferrothorn and Genesect clogging competitive. Powercreep began in earnest this gen, including atrocious min-maxing of Pokemon (Darmanitan, e.g.) introduction of Hidden Abilities and stupidly strong ones (like Prankster), which made Pokemon gimped in base game in order to balance their buffs with the abilities (like Serperior) that still took forever to be released
>Annoying friend companions following you around and stopping you frequently, not to mention other NPCs like Alder with even less relevance to your protagonist doing it; not even likable like Barry
>Elite 4 members have 4 Pokemon and they are each equally weak
>Forced, hamfisted story and characters (giving the golden boy flip-flopper you might not even give a shit about, despite the story wanting you to, the spotlight before credits roll) that goes so far as to force you to capture the box legendary, and be unable to become champion before the postgame.
>Cheating final boss with underlevelled Hydreigon.
>Baited the long awaited "is training evil?" angle, including pestering antagonist who decides you were right all along, then abandoned it at the end in favor of the most generic villain (literally take-over-the-world) the series has had to date
>Poorly orchestrated champion theme and anti-hype legendary theme
>Almost no post-game to speak of
These are the reasons to hate Black/White.
Not to say it did nothing right, but it is nowhere near perfection, and might even be near the bottom of the heap.
>Not really, they're one-off items. Its a risk/reward that incentives smart plays.
you literally have no way of telling whether an opponent is holding a Gem or Z-Crystal unless it's an obvious spammed set like Acrobatics luchador bird or Super Saiyan Eevee
it's story heavy unlike Gens III and earlier and it's really kiddy shit, so prepare to be handheld
Black or White?
>give me some flaws of gen 5
>MOST OF THE POKEMON ARE UGLY!!!
Every fucking time
And? How is that a negative?
So Entire GBA/DS library?
I love Unova, but:
>BW has terrible pokemon diversity at the start until you beat the first gym leader
>The elemental monkeys are a forced way of producing type diversity but ends up with very similar teams
>nearly everything evolves really late
>BW2 forces you to do the PokeStars thing before moving on
>The E4 Round 1 in BW is a fucking pushover
>there's a massive level jump after the elite four in BW
>Being asked about the C-gear every time you turn the game on is irritating
Its up to you user, you should check what the different exclusives are. Personally I liked Black because of one of the cities music tracks.
>And? How is that a negative?
Your Pokemon can get one-shotted out of nowhere through no fault of your own because it operates outside of game knowledge. It's not like a critical hit because the player has full control over it.
It's just as bad as having to go up against min-maxed, overpowered garbage like Pheromosa. It breaks game balance.
>Your Pokemon can get one-shotted out of nowhere through no fault of your own because it operates outside of game knowledge
Okay, and when I attack a pokemon and it survives with a Focus Sash, how is that any different? Or if it outspeeds me with a Choice Scarf.
That seems like a silly argument, user. You never know what items your opponent is using outside of Trick shenanigans. I'm not buying this argument from you at all.
>Okay, and when I attack a pokemon and it survives with a Focus Sash, how is that any different?
Because the match doesn't immediately end right then and there. There's still potentially more turns to go through.
Pokemon ideally is about strategy. Making everything die faster by just wailing on the right weakness with enough power from as little effort built up as possible encourages everyone to take the path of least resistance. It reduces the game to "Use this broken buff or this broken mon in one turn or less and kill the opposite Pokemon." It makes Pokemon a fundamentally less complex game, killing the challenge and sense of reward.
>Because the match doesn't immediately end right then and there
And yet it does when your opponent uses gems? For one off attacks? No, user, that's not how it works at all.
I want to cum in her.
by match I mean the two Pokemon currently in play
>tfw found my DS with my 200 hour pokemon platinum save
>haven't logged in since 2010
feels weird man
That's not pokemon snap.
That's not what match means, but okay.
>buy Pearl from eb games
>last saved 2009
I just played this all night and came here to make a thread about it, get out of my head
It even has that little "Here's what you were last doing" thing. Turned it on and it was like "You traded with Suchandsuch on November 8, 2010!"
Pretty nostalgic stuff. Platinum came out in my first year of college and it was great being able to battle and trade with friends who were out of state. Plus the Pokemon Generals on Yea Forums were active as fuck.
I quit Pokemon after Platinum because I just wasn't interested after putting like 1k hours into Diamond and recently picked up Sun and Moon. Loving it a lot and thinking it might be my favorite one so far. Should I do XY after or Black and White? I usually hear the best about BW.
Probably BW. XY have flaws but can be fun; I'd say only really do them next if you care about being in on trading/battling, since who knows how long that shit will be active.
A reminder that even though gen 5's online is down, you can access old event stuff by tinkering with your connection settings and using mystery gift. Same with gen 4, but its way easier in gen 5.
XY is okay, it just lacks a lot of stuff we were used to in the other games, like post-game content and story
you should definitely head to black and white, as it is very much alike to sun and moon; the ones youre enjoying right now
either since you claim to like Sun/Moon
