It was retconned last month, 2 is now before 4.

So what the fuck was Lady doing the entire time Dante was apparently trapped in hell between 2 and 4? They never explained how he got out before 4.

There's an after credit scene where Lucia hears a motorcycle roll up outside of Dante's office.

Okay, next question, why does Dante look so old in V, I assume that was because he was in hell since 2, and got aged to fuck there. But if that happened before IV, that goes out the window, also, isn't Lady like 50 now? I'm only like 6 missions into V, but damn she looks younger now than when she did in IV

The anime fucks everything up though with Patty now being 18 in 5 it can't be all that many years after the anime.

probably killing demons and hoping Dante is okay. Lady isn't employed by Dante at Devil May Cry, she has her own independent outfit that occasionally hires Dante/Trish for jobs she can't handle herself like in DMC4. If anyone took a proactive role in freeing Dante from hell it'd be Trish, because she's like his sister at this point.

The Order of the Sword beginning to fuck around with Yamato is what opened up a portal that let Dante get out of hell, Dante wasn't sure of it himself at the time

At least that's some explanation, but I would like if they delved into it some more. More explanation for Dante's general attitude during DMC2.

Honestly I'd peg it as a continuation of his odd, somber attitude in the anime since DMC2 takes place not long after it. Thought he killed his brother, avenged his family and doesn't have much to climb in terms of the achievement scale, taking on a job at some buttfuck island to defeat Argosax and he canonically doesn't remember most of it afterwards since it wasn't an important event to him.

After 1, Dante gets pretty somber, and the anime extends to that. He's barely making enough money to pay rent and eat, he killed Vergil, there's really nothing left to aspire to after defeating Mundus, Trish is nice but basically a constant reminder that his mom is dead. By 2 he's probably just numb to it all, and he barely considers Arius and Argosax threats. Then the Order of the Sword and Fortuna get his attention and he meets Nero, and that helps spark his fire again.

31A245 is a WAY better timeline than 31A425 just because it makes Dante's character arc much smoother. On top of that it makes the games go in chronological order outside of 3 which was a clear prequel.

Honestly I feel like he'd look a lot younger if his hair was turned more of the unnatural white it used to be as opposed to normal old man gray.

It went from being after 4 to before, Capcom cares about it as much as they care about the anime though.
