>Sakurai's changes for his health in developing smash ultimate included no longer working past 10PM >comments that "many management heads in Japan are making these changes nowadays" >also says that whenever he had "bad stomach issues" (which apparently was often) he would just go to the hospital, get an IV drip, and come back to work
Fucking hell, is this why Japan always makes the best games? They just worked until they collapsed? Imagine being so dedicated to game quality that you just worked yourself to death over making the best possible games. Can any one team be any more based?
It like elves at the work shop made the games, it's just a different standard from the rest of the world.
Benjamin Green
Also happens with many manga/anime creators
Jackson Morales
I feel like he should focus on his health though
Didn't he break his hand once during smash 4's time
Adrian Brown
>Fucking hell, is this why Japan always makes the best games [citation needed]
Landon Collins
Nah that was during Uprising. He developed tendinitis i think.
Connor Miller
Japanese developers care about what they see as a quality product.
American developers care about their bottom line.
Eli Fisher
>The game where most people commonly complain and even joke that you'll get arthritis >He actually fucked up his hands for real On one hand I feel bad but on the other it's kinda funny.
Noah Jenkins
When you nearly work yourself to death and the online is still garbage
It's all an act, stupid. Japs do this to look tough and hard-working.
Evan Peterson
he must have leprosy or something if porting a game and taking out features makes him use an iv.
imagine how shocked he would be if someone told him that there are developers that don't just make the same game every 4 years
Levi White
[autism]
Brayden Jackson
based, even though i don't play smash 5 anymore, i can respect him for being so dedicated to making a perfect game.
Parker Sanders
Japanese companies (and most East Asian countries in general) treat their employees like garbage, give them few rights and place heavy pressure on them to effectively have no life outside of work.
Chase Bailey
And he still looks very young and cute. How does he do it?
Andrew Johnson
Didn't he almost collaps when he made Melee? It was only made in about 13 months and he barely took any day offs.
Thomas Hernandez
why are japs so sickly?
Jordan Edwards
>Works himself nearly to death >Game is still trash Really makes you think, based westerners
Jordan Wright
I don't want to sound like a dick but considering what's actually in Ultimate I have to wonder if him and 6 other people are the ones that program/develop the game.
SSBU is the best Smash game sure but the vast majority of the game is just tweaks and a handful of extra character additions. Like if this was him during Melee or Brawl then I'd totally understand since both games were extremely large leaps from its predecessor.
Meanwhile I'm pretty sure half of Ultimates development went to getting the rights to use PNG pictures of other peoples games. I dunno, maybe he was the one to personally do all the Spirits AND newcomers AND character balances. But at that point I think you should higher more employee's.
Luke Walker
that's nintendo server faults tho
Levi Hernandez
barely anyone worked on Ultimate compared to Brawl
Thomas Gray
Game's fault too. For Fun and For Glory should have never been removed. Quickplay is forever a horrid clusterfuck because of it.
Henry Sullivan
Nintendo is basically holding smash over Sakurai's head Sakurai wants to do something else but is autistic and doesn't want his "world" ruined Smash will continue and either Sakurai works like a dog to make it himself or they give it to someone else and his favourite video game he ever made gets tarnished and changed
Chase Baker
Extra characters take several weeks to implement, even the returning ones.
Hunter Harris
Hes notoriously hands on when making his games so yeah he probably did a lot of that stuff.
Not to mention he has to go and meet wiith every fucking developer to get licenses for the characters. Cloud almost didnt make it in for this reason.
Ian Nelson
It’s all a charade, millions of Japanese workers every day work longer hours than they should because it’s seen as this dedication to your job that people praise. But the work they end up doing as time progresses is just the absolute bare minimum for whatever their project goals are. They get over worked to the point where there only options are suicide or just barely finishing a task half baked. Sakurai works himself further to death with each Smash game, which leaves each new game with less and less content that requires actual effort, and more and more content that takes very little time to implement, like stages and characters. One month dedicated to making a new character is way less work than months making an entirely new game mode.
Jaxon Lewis
Sakurai can say no if he want to, he isn't forced by Nintendo or anything.
Carter Martin
japanese company culture is very interesting. you have lazy employees which leads to missing deadlines which leads to working overtime which eventually may lead to 過労死
Isaiah Reyes
Maybe they should stop developing terrible games.
Jack Hughes
That's not what he's saying. He's saying Sakurai doesn't trust Nintendo to not mess up/do what he would do with Smash, if he wasn't involved and he doesn't want that either, besides not wanting to work on it anymore.
Jayden Myers
maybe he wouldn't be overworking himself if he didn't have to make 8 identical fire emblem nobodies LMAO
Ian Russell
He was willing to let go of Kirby and Kirby is doing fine, great even. I think Sakurai is a great dev who deserves the praise but having someone else have a go with Smash would be pretty interesting and I'd like for him to go try out new shit.
Luke Cook
Japan hasn't made the best games in at least 20 years. The fuck crack are you smoking?
