I only started coming here with the announcement of 5 and the subsequent DMC threads. There's so many people not understanding V and then deciding its the games fault or playing on normal and then saying the game is easy

Design is great and AI isn't dumb but still not Bayo levels of aggressive. DMC1 AI isn't even that good, get your head out your ass.

I'd say they're more 4-like but even more combo-friendly, there isn't any annoying fucks like, well, anything that isn't a hell in DMC3 or the Blitz fuckers in 4

Am I the only one finding this game boring? I played the prior games for the first time in anticipation of the release, and I enjoyed them a good amount, but this one is lacking something. It feels off.

I'm really ok with any additional characters being only for BP as long as all bosses are there. No point for missions when everybody just plays them in BP

No, I don't think that's it. The first few hours were feeling fresh and fun when first playing as Nero and V, but the unimaginative environments and attacks that feel full have left me bored. Not even Dante could help spice it up for me.

Do you care about plot? If so, yes. If you don't, not really. There's a History of DMC option in the main menu.

I could swear Vergil vs Nero is intentionally easier than Vergil vs Dante. I pretty much wiped the floor with him, but died once on Vergil vs Dante

i've tried every fix i can think of. stopped overclocking, reinstalled directx, editing the ini to force directx11, turning off vsync and playing in borderless window, reinstalling drivers on top of all that

Very good, unless you really liked the backtracing and puzzles from the last games. It's no bullshit, straight to the action.

There's both exploration levels and linear combat levels, both are fantastic without being as annoying as some DMC3 stages or having stupid ass annoying gimmicks nobody wanted.

I just switch between trickster and swordmaster and occasionally gunslinger when I want to get stylish. Just find what works for you through experimenting and you'll get the hang of it.

Going from nero to dante feels like throwing off 100 pounds of training weights

The amount of details in this game is insane.

At GDC a few years back they said it was capable of producing celshading visuals on anime game about as well as the fighters and runs on Switch, they're planning on using it for pretty much everything going forward since Panta rei faild

As usual, Dante overwhelms me so much with his humongous moveset. Feels brainlet. And then there's the gauntlets, my God the gauntlets. I have no idea how to use them. Lock + back attack not being a launcher trips me up all the time.

Retard as I am, I found a dumb strategy that worked for me.
>dont lock onto enemies when there's a crowd, ever
>mash cat while charging crow, periodically let go of crow charge between cat mashing to let it rip
>sometimes switch to mashing crow and charging cat
>when there's few and manageable enemies, lock on and do cat launcher then mash both attacks
And just like that I got my 1st triple S.

In my opinion yes. DMC5 is the best DMC game and has topped all other DMC games.

Is it easier to get S ranks in this or something? I've gotten mostly S ranks for missions and one or two A's, and a B in the prologue partially due to not having enough moves and forgetting to ex act, partially due to playing on DS4 so taunt got moved from the touch pad to the share button, which threw me off.

Style gain drops off hard if you use the same moves repeatedly. Apart from avoiding damage, you need to vary which moves you use to keep building style points.

Sword Formations 3 I believe add a move called Round Trips in Swordmaster. Basically, you hold the swordmaster button down for a bit like in normal roundtrip, but you can keep holding it and you got these 4 spinning summoned swords behind you, when you let go they fly out and act the same as round trip.

Hard to predict with Capcom.
Could be either or, but in the current climate I'd expect them to be DLC.
Can't really see another version unless it's a next gen port.

Had this happen a few times and I don't think it's related to the network. Based on the error and the lockup and display restart it seems to come with it's a GPU error. Probably a performance issue that will need to be resolved with drivers or an update later. Definitely on the game side though.

4 and 5 both have this problem where you can't switch lock-on while moving, you could in 3 and I have no idea why they got rid of it

V has a couple things that make him a bit unresponsive if you try to play in a certain way

Being used to playing Nero I was locking on at pretty much all times and expecting the summons to move to whoever I was targeting and it doesn't really work that way. I found V much more responsive when I started only locking on for special inputs.

V is pretty unique and I think most reviewers would have a hard time changing gears to hanging back and charging DT, setting one summon to auto, and choosing your strikes based on where your summons already are

It also took me a little while to realize you can recall griffon by air hiking and shadow by dodging

buster, i thought gerbera would be good but damn it really isnt that great

Break Age (holding the style/arm button for a super-attack) or Break Away (hold L1, sacrifice an arm for a radial explosion). Otherwise the only way to lose an arm or cycle through breakers is to get hit with a breaker attack.

Tomboy absolutely shreds things and not having a lock-on is barely a downside if you were aiming attacks manually anyways. It also has a weak DT explosion when turning it on that can stagger surrounding enemies and turns normal attacks into shield-breakers. Shooting with it is uncomfortable, but Tomboy is quickly turned off so I don't have much issue with that, otherwise I max charge a shot and then UNGA BUNGA

I like gerbera gp01 more, the instant launch up and down is nice, also what does the banana arm do?

I like V but positioning Shadow/Griffon can get annoying. Also unlike Nero and Dante he doesn't get any new toys which is disappointing (of course he wouldn't get an opportunity to use them).

I've started coming around on Gerbera, and Helter-skelter isn't as useless as I thought it would be. Haven't really gotten a chance to try the buster but I can already assume it works like the devil bringer in 4. Not a big fan of rawhide, only its break age is useful. Overture is a good solid breaker that's always useful no matter the situations, so I like to always keep one on me.

I think the pasta breaker devil breaker let's you rearrange the layout of your breakers on the fly but that's it, you can't switch between each. They all gave a use though, Overture definitely feels the most reliable overall to me though.

Wiresnatch should be lockon+ Foward+ B, not just lock on B, because i have to lock off the enemy then use the arm, its pretty annoying

Time for tips boys. Now I'm gonna be honest with you, I've been dipping in out of these hype threads right from the beginning just after the E3 reveal but I don't think I ever commented. I finished the first and 4th DMCs with all S ranks on each difficulty and I think I have a fair amount of weight on what qualifies as a decent tip so here I go:

For Nero, change the controls so your gun - Blue Rose - is on the L1 trigger. Then hold it down as you fight so it's always ready for the charge shots. Those shots are guaranteed to get you up to S rank along side mixing up the juggle combos and breakers.

For Dante, no idea; I've only played the first four missions.

Yeah it is - always has been. For Nero, there isn't a default for L1. In DMC4 it was his devil trigger but I dunno if he gets that in this game (again, I've only played the first few missions).

The stinger move is very good, you can just hold it and Dante drills everything to death.

I like Nico but I was expecting more plot-wise, she's the same character at the start and end. She serves her role as a divinity statue with personality but is fairly pointless otherwise.

I think he's fun, but he's such a gimmick character. There's very little to do in way of combos and actual "DMC cuhrayzee combo" shit is not really there. If V is ever brought back through the book as a playable character the cane needs to have crazy rapier attacks and a full moveset.

plus you keep your shots by taunting

Jumping has I-frames and you can enter into a dodge by targeting and going to the side

I like him a lot but he's definitely the least polished of the three.
Would be nice if he got a bit more attention (in more ways than one).

DSD's Round Trip Swords are so broken

The normal enemies in this game are quite easy but once you let your attention slip they really shred trough your health in seconds.

Bayonetta is a perfect example of why DMC's control scheme is superior.
Just compare the button efficiency between the two franchises, and the amount of non-redundant moves you can do at any one time. Bayonetta is a good game but it leans heavily on the dial-a-combos and has to resort to equippable accessories.
