Ok anons
I played KH 1 and 2 on release date and never touched them again.
Should I replay them and the side games before starting 3?

If you care about the story yes
Is the gameplay as shit as I remeber it?
You shouldn't even start 3 until all the updates and DLC come out.
So play something else?

Yes, anything else for at least a year, maybe more depending on how the development of FF7R goes.
If you wan't to play 3 and understand the story, you will need to play 1, CoM, 2, BBS, DDD, and 385/2 Days
Why did he even bring this up? Neither Aqua nor Ven even know who Roxas is, he sounds like he thinks he's asking questions everyone in the room has but it's literally just his own thoughts he's just saying aloud and he sounds like a sperg.
Lmao there are no side games in the KH series, every game is important to the story. Yes, even the fucking browser/mobile game
Gameplay peaked at KH2. Take that as you will.
Is there a complete collection or recommended way to catch up on everything? Or are people just kinda fucked?
Everything is on PS4
1.5 + 2.5 HD Collection and KH 2.8 or get the entire series in the Story So Far collection
Agreed, The Story So Far + 3 contains all the info on PS4, including 3 movies and 7 games.
>I guess evil/good ventus
>Evil/good vanitas
This is right.
>organization 13 member?
He's far more important than that, he's not a random like Saix (who only matters because Axel) but okay, half point.
>a fake
Not exactly, it depends.
>Organization 13 memebers?
Yeah but you won't get what's their secret just with that.
>A master of a keyblade?
Half point because you are still missing the Mark of Mastery deals etc etc
>So you aren’t a god in 3
That's the IRL explanation, not what happened in-universe
>A war with neyblade wielders
Half point again because you don't know what happened to the universe for the war
3.5 points of 34 questions, you need to play the other games.
Just watch the movies on youtube. Most KH games play like complete shit.
Literally everyone in the room but Ven and Aqua are aware of Roxas and Ventus' identical looks, it's not just Axel.
There's a ton of collections so you can't miss the story, just buy 1.5+2.5 collection and 2.8, or The Story So Far that has both
But remember to play the games in release order
What order should I play them and do I have to play the mobile game?
Right, but why even bring it up when Roxas isn't even there? They weren't even sure they were going to be able to bring him back yet.
If you never liked the gameplay, stay far away from the series. You don't want to be someone who plays this series only for the story.
If you think you may have just been too young to appreciate the gameplay and never played on the highest difficulties, it's worth considering to play all the games. And this time, do the above. The combat is quite deep, at least in the numbered games.
You can get 90% of the series prior to KH3 in one collection right now called "The Story So Far". All it's missing completely is the browser and mobile games, though the two least important games have been reduced to just recap videos. Not a huge loss.
This is a very hard to read chart. You should put the bigger collections on top, with the smaller collections in trees under it. Just have all the individual games on a horizontal line at the bottom, in logo form.
See above your post, release order. Alternatively you can play 358/2 Days before KH2, it's acceptable too.
>do I have to play the mobile game
Yes and no, the mobile game has a movie but it's not the game adapted to movie format like the other movies (358/2 Days and Re:coded), it's like the story behind the scenes you play in the game so you are still missing info of the game if you only watch the movie. However you can just watch the cutscenes in youtube
youtube.com
... or even ignore it since it's not important yet, it's briefly mentioned in KH3 as set up for the next saga, I think you can survive with just this
>Marluxia = Lauriam
>Larxene = Elrena
>Strelitzia = Lauriam's death sister
>Ventus = a Dandelion
>Brain = a Dandelion too, but also a "virus"
You will understand later
>Alternatively you can play 358/2 Days before KH2, it's acceptable too.
No it isn't.
Thanks guys
So play them in release order?
It's literally how the collections put it
1 -> CoM -> Days -> 2 -> BbS -> coded
Yes. Some purists are against 358/2 Days before KH2 but you can do it, but release order (KH2 then Days) is still better.
>It's literally how the collections put it
Don't start this shit again, the reason they did that in the collections was to balance them. Otherwise you'd have 1, ReCoM, and 2 in a single collection and then BBS with two movies in the other.
What's funny with this is that you can just read a recap of the story to know who those characters are and you can probably play KH3 just fine.
80% of the game is pointless storywise, the last 20% are super condensed (you can summarize what happen to each of the character you talk about in like 2 lines)
>w-well you don't need to play the games that tells you the story if you read just a summary of the story!
Yeah and you can do that with every single saga ever, games, movies, books, literally everything, your point?
This. OP should buy The Story so Far and wait for the DLC and updates of III, that's what I'm doing.
Nigger, every other scene after the first game is literally just someone in a black robe teleporting behind Sora and calling him a faggot. The actual percentage of story-critical scenes is probably like 10%.
why wouldn't you play them again?
they're fantastic games
The entire series is story critical, dumbass. That's like saying you can just skip every piece of dialogue in pokemon that doesn't involve the main villain.
Literally ever game is important.
I began playing KH1 a little bit ago, but I stopped because I saw Tidus, and I dropped FFX a while ago. Should I finish FFX and come back or do I just go on?
>KH2 Atlantica is story critical
>literally any 100 Acre Woods is story critical
Yeah, no.
>That's like saying you can just skip every piece of dialogue in pokemon that doesn't involve the main villain.
I basically do that anyway, because I'm not a fucking ten-year-old who cares about the story in a Pokemon game.
>points to the optional minigame worlds as a last ditch defense
lol
Funny you say that when KH1 is the game with less story of all, retard
>"the entire game is story critical"
And you're wrong, it's that simple. It doesn't matter if they're 'minigame worlds', you can't say that the entirety of every game is essential to understanding the story. Shit, most of the really important worlds don't even require every scene to unfold.
>the game with less story of all, retard
Learn how to speak fucking English before you call other people retards, you Pajeet pile of shit.
>the entire game is story critical
I said series, dipshit. As in, everything that's not side content.
The Keyblade Graveyard is a perfect example. It's literally just DBZ fights and deaths. The only takeaway from the entire world is "the organization and Kairi are dead". It's completely worthless, and it's one of the most cutscene-heavy worlds.
>The only takeaway from the entire world is "the organization and Kairi are dead"
I mean, yeah, if you boil everything down to "the protagonist wins" every story sounds like shit. You forgot Repliku sacrificed himself for Namine, Roxas and Xion came back and Saix was redeemed, Marluxia was redeemed, and Terra was saved.
Who is Subject X? I haven't gotten to read the reports yet
Is it Ephemer?
It's Skuld. Ephemer seems to be related to Xehanort and Eraqus' teacher in some way according to the secrets section of the Ultimania.
>I mean, yeah, if you boil everything down to "the protagonist wins" every story sounds like shit
Except Kairi is fucking dead. It's more of a 'he won, but at what cost?' sort of thing. None of the rest of the shit matters. Those characters could literally just appear for the ending, and the end result would be the same.
>None of the rest of the shit matters
I'm glad you aren't a writer user, you'd be fucking terrible at it. Does anything but Frodo destroying the one ring matter? Does anything but Harry killing Voldemort matter? Does anything but Luke destroying the Empire matter?
>Harry Potter
>Star Wars
Ok, so you're just baiting me now. We're done here.
>stories don't count as stories if I don't personally like them
God it really twists my balls that UnionX is the most interesting KH lore but it's gatchashit you need to play for 50hrs to get anywhere
I hope they do a book or a port at some point. It's not like 90% of the paypigs won't buy it and still play on phones
My point is that there is a definitive difference between a scene that is 'flavor' and a scene that is absolutely critical to understanding the story. I assert that maybe 1 in 10 cutscenes actually meets the latter criteria, and you haven't said a single thing to refute that. Even better, you went ahead and exposed yourself as a tasteless faggot whose go-to stories are the most entry-level on the entire planet. You should be ashamed.
this game is pretty trash and i loved the first 2
dropped it at the pirate world
You are dumb as bricks.
>My point is that there is a definitive difference between a scene that is 'flavor' and a scene that is absolutely critical to understanding the story. I assert that maybe 1 in 10 cutscenes actually meets the latter criteria
The difference is what you assert as "the story" in the first place, because to you stories seem to boil down to "good guy good, he win. bad guy bad, he lose". Whereas I'm sure anyone you tell this in person would rightfully beat you upside the head for your stupidity.
>tasteless faggot whose go-to stories are the most entry-level on the entire planet
Dumbass, I picked those stories because they're examples almost everyone would know.
Excellent argument. I am now convinced.
Just watch the cutscenes on Youtube.
Ok, let's break this down for you, because you're clearly retarded. Literally every single scene involving Ienzo, except for one, is just meaningless chatter over the gummiphone. That's about four or five scenes to a character's name, and literally only one of them matters—the one with Demyx. That means a full 4/5 of a character's scenes are meaningless fluff. You can't defend this.
>Literally every single scene involving Ienzo, except for one, is just meaningless chatter over the gummiphone
Oh, you're a speedreader, I see the problem now. So how do you think Roxas came back in the Graveyard? You think Sora just willed him into an empty replica through sheer force of will despite what Ienzo explicitly said about needing the memories from data Twilight Town?
So when YX is mentioning how Sora has a price to pay for using his power recklessly that’s meant to foreshadow him disappearing because of the power of walking right?
>So how do you think Roxas came back in the Graveyard?
Through sheer force of story convenience, you stupid fuck. You think Nomura isn't just riding the seat of his pants with this shit?
>I owe my return to many
>You don't know any of them, because they were offscreen
The scenes with Ienzo also re-establish the return of the Nobodies and the fact that people can return via Replicas.
>the power of walking
No one man should have all this power.
>Through sheer force of story convenience
Why do you expect anyone to take anything you say seriously after you've shown how empty your brain is?
Ephemer is a boy you retard
>The scenes with Ienzo also re-establish the return of the Nobodies and the fact that people can return via Replicas.
These are both things we've already known.
The clock's ticking, vencuck just counts the hours.
So basically Ephemer was the poor fool who got No Name from Luxu?
>y-your dumb
I accept your concession.
Most likely but it's strange he uses tenses of words implying Sora already paid the price.
One would assume, clearly he didn't get knocked forward in time by Brain because he was the light from the past.
>Secret section of ultimania
H'what?
Someone posted a screenshot of the section title page of the ultimania, like there's a title page for the characters section and all that stuff so you can flip right to it. It's a wall in the chess room with framed pics of young Eraqus, chess shota Xehanort, and Ephemer.
I mean, we're already fully into time travel shenanigans and alternate timelines at this point the single biggest indicator that a piece of fiction has jumped the shark.
>power of walking
Vague bullshit
Not really, Nomura just bullshitted its negative repercussions out of thin air, I think that thing about chasing worlds is just a localization flub.
Literally what IS the power of waking?
It's the power to wake hearts. Sleeping, entrenched in darkness, or dead, you can wake them depending on your friendship powerlevel.
How does one use it? Sora unlocks worlds by twirling his keyblade around, pointing it forward, and shooting a lazer. What does waking look like?
It's more of an abstract conceptual power. There's no summoning animation or chant or whatever needed. It's just a skill as natural to your heart as jumping.
Have we seen it in action at all? It seems so needlessly abstract.
Yes? It's literally what Sora uses to wake up Ven and save everyone who died in the Keyblade Graveyard. Riku also uses it in DDD to wake up Sora at the end.
Nigger, Roxas literally just teleports out of his body. Sora is surprised by this. How can you even attribute that to something that Sora consciously did?
I... what? I know Roxas and Ven look the same but their names are completely different.
Sorry, slightly drunk.
>Aqua unlocks Castle Oblivion, reveals it to be The Land of Departure, where she was secretly hiding Ven
>this is somehow the work of Sora's power of waking
Are you retarded?
You must have been a retarded kid.
No, Sora had the power of waking all along, he just didn't know how to use it because he's a retard savant. He can't learn and remember skills like that, he just uses gut instinct to activate them when they're needed most.
Now explain how he used it to bring Ven back, like you claimed.
This. The game is half arsed and feels like the cut content just to resell it. It's become the modern norm now and I feel stupid for paying $60
He woke up his heart. I'm not sure what kind of explanation you're looking for. I told you it's a conceptual power, you just focus your energies and it happens, no physical animation or anything required.
Except the cutscenes that work into rescuing Ven literally do not involve Sora. Sora follows Aqua, Aqua unlocks the castle, then Aqua battles Vanitas. Aqua then holds Ven in her arms and says "good morning." Which part of this involved Sora's power of waking?
Uh... this entire section?
youtube.com
Granted, the entire game is a blur to me because it was so fucking terrible. If nothing else, this proves that 'unlocking worlds' is perfectly analogous to 'waking', because ultimately Sora just shoots a lazer out of his keyblade.
I mean, sort of. But if that's the case then Sora would have had it since 2, which renders the mark of mastery exam in DDD completely pointless. I'm pretty sure it's a separate power.
My point is that Sora can do literally whatever he wants by shooting lazers out of his keyblade, and fuck you if you even think there has to be an explanation for this.
I mean, there doesn't have to be, but there is. Everything he does by shooting lasers is apparently a skill genuinely learnable by keyblade wielders. Honestly, I'm pretty sure there'd be a lot of upset fans if there weren't some sort of explanation.
>apparently a skill genuinely learnable by keyblade wielders
>Sora does this in the very first game without any inkling of training
KH is a fucking trainwreck, dude. Stop trying to pretend that the story isn't shit.
>Sora does this in the very first game without any inkling of training
Again, it can't be the same power otherwise Yen Sid wouldn't have had to try and teach it to him with the whole unlocking sleeping keyholes thing. Also when does he do anything like this in 1? 1 used navi-g blocks to open new sets of worlds.
Sora unlocks worlds by shooting a lazer into a keyhole in the first game. He is never taught how to do this. Your move.
Not him but you are a fucking retard, he did exactly the opposite, he LOCKED worlds (so heartless can't attack its heart) and that's an ability any Keyblade can do like nothing, it has nothing to do with the power of waking sleeping hearts.
>Sora unlocks worlds by shooting a lazer into a keyhole in the first game
How much of a speedreader can you possibly be? The walls between worlds were already broken in 1 because of Ansem and the Heartless scourge, this is literally a plot point in 2 because the walls and worlds that had been lost were put back up when Sora and Mickey shut the DtD. He wasn't UNlocking anything in 1, he was locking away the hearts of worlds to stop the Heartless from getting to them.
>i misspoke—said 'UNlock' instead of 'lock'
>already admitted that I'm pretty drunk
What the fuck is your point? Are you this butthurt that a drunkard can out-think you?
What do you gain from keeping this thread alive by pretending to be retarded?
>y-your retarded
I accept your concession.
Read it again, drunk retard, locking or unlocking, it has nothing to do with awake sleeping hearts.
Actually take in my argument, you low IQ pile of shit. If the only visible evidence we can see of Sora doing something is a lazer shot out of his keyblade, that is evidence that the writers are lazily just ascribing any power they want to his lazers. I wouldn't expect you to understand, because you're a fucking brainlet.
>can't understand abstract concepts
>calls others brainlets
Which abstract concepts are you referring to, retard-kun?
>being this retarded and autistic just because a character can do several stuff by shoting magical rays of light from his magic key-sword
I accept your concession. Close this thread.
Darkness
It's a lot easier now
