You're not wrong, but here's the thing. Even the bubblegum pop of the 90s and 2000s was still unique. You could still tell the songs apart. You could tell which trash was by Britney Spears, and which was by Eiffel 65, etc. In addition, they all contributed to the retro atmosphere of the decades. I'm probably not doing a good job of explaining it, but culture isn't something you can put into words. Culture is one of those things you feel/experience, much like emotions.
