It's ridiculous that this is true. The biggest complaints about 4 are how long the intro takes to give you your freedom, and it's even worse in 5.
The best thing about 5's intro is basically everybody being suspicious of you and treating you like shit, and it's quickly dropped.

I understand the dislike for Ohya because her personality and design are both divisive (I'm pretty sure Lala-chan places above her in a poll) and her Confidant ability is next to useless, but Chihaya only seems to be valued for being the advancement bot even though she's really cute. I think there's just so many options, most of them appealing to fetishes or archetypes that are often turned into fetishes (doctor/punk/S&M/legs, teacher, NEET, etc), that the others fall behind.

I can one up that. I got to the beginning of the Mementos dungeon and stopped playing for like half a year because I found myself having no real desire to see the game through to the end. The combat is boring as fuck after 100 hours and I didn't give a shit about any of the characters

Weird the vast majority of the PT members confront people who directly have a hand in making their lives hell, but this dude isn't even responsible for the death of Makoto's dad. It wouldn't even have been personal if Makoto didn't get herself and the whole team blackmailed. Call it a good or bad change of pace, but it meant Makoto didn't have the same vengeful fervor the others had, as Kaneshiro was more an ugly face that she could punch that represented what she hated, rather than a distinct individual. Sae could have been her shitty adult but she is sympathetic.

I hate Makoto as a character, but as a party member she's basically essential the moment she shows up.
