They had 6 games, they already did everything interesting that could be done with it.

>tfw shanghai cancelled right before the end

One step from eden looks promising.

Basically the whole game is a MMBN endurance match where you deckbuild on the fly

gamejolt.com/games/OSFE/366092

Well sure reviewers thought so, and that's enough for capcom.

Personally would hope for a different game with a similar battle system. Definitely wouldn't want another Battle Network game though, it had a good run, 4 aside, and ended on a high note.

The hell even happened with that? That was a pretty sudden cancellation iirc.

>Roguelite

Literally just play Star Force

I did.

>The hell even happened with that?

The Navi customization is patented and the author can't do shti about it

I did. 1 was alright, 2 sucked, 3 was amazing. I kinda want to replay 3 at some point though.

I mean the final game pretty definitively ended with showing where all the main characters went after they grew up. That sounds like a planned stopping point to me, not a cancellation because of bad reviews.

>can only move left and right
>can only see the back of your gay head and have some retard staring you down
great game

Starforce is rather different, and you should know that.

The only problem I see there being was that Capcom milked the series to dry rather quick (What with the almost yearly releases and so)

Allowing game mechanics to be patented was a mistake. In any case, can't you just change the tetris aspect, and have a loophole there?

Remember that time capcom got a studio known primarily for fan service anime to anime their long running game series?
Sounds pretty cunnypilled to me

play yokai watch 3

>patented
These fucking patent and copyright laws need an overhaul. This shit's been getting ridiculous for a long time.
>You don't have the rights to your own shit because some old man living in a trailer or some mega-corporation patented it and you can't do a damn thing about it

I never said I was mocking capcom.

The fuck is navi customization?

Star force is the best game.

The series never should have even gone past 3, since 3 wrapped up the ongoing plot, 4 and 5 were gimmicky and sucked, and 6's only saving grace is that the PvP was balanced.

Xebec is dead now.

>The hell even happened with that? That was a pretty sudden cancellation iirc.
Capcom'd

Last I heard, it was about some ripped sprites blacked used as postgame shadow fights against BN characters

You know, this mechanic

Attached: MBN4_NaviCust02.png (240x160, 2K)

Wait... there's a patent on that shit? Dear god.

2 was shit and really only notable in that you noticed ludicrously overpowered the second you had access to the pause menu.

3 was amazing though

Didn't Kid Icarus Uprising do this?

Yeah, it seems that Capcom has it patented.

I've never played KI:U, so I can't say

played this at magfest last year. was pretty good, tho could see it getting pretty boring unless they add in more then 3 characters.

Attached: 1517882826801.png (350x400, 550K)

It kind of did, but it didn't have any interactions based on color or a line going through the middle or anything like that, it was just fitting blocks in a grid. I have no idea how strict the actual patent is.

There was no official statement other than he told people who were working on it that Capcom stepped in. It was most likely because Zero is on a few chips and the bosses from Battle Network were in the game (but shadowed) as Program Advances. After all, the NaviCust in Shanghai is nothing like the one in BN.

You got Revolution 60, get over it

Couldn't he just have removed Zero and the Program Advances, then?

Get over what? It's merely a remark not a lamentation.

>Patent
That didn't stop square from stealing it and putting it in Kingdom Hearts

Forgot Pic

>Try doing something new with a spinoff series
>It's pretty rough but it has potential
>Refine it and iron out some flaws
>People love it but it still has some minor problems
>Fix it up a bit more and release something really good that most people thoroughly enjoy
>Turn everything upside down and release a pile of shit
>People hate it
>Decide to try to fix it instead of just going back to the previous thing people wanted more of
>People start to get tired
>Do it again
>People just want more of the third
>"lol okay guys this series is done now people clearly don't want more of it and we couldn't possibly do anything else"

I fucking hate the japs.

If you're implying that 5 and 6 aren't the tightest shit, you can get fuck out

Oh yeah, that was a thing... Though how does it differ from NavCust?

Probably not, at least not without them continuing to threaten legal action. Once you get that sort of takedown notice they're watching you like a hawk and continued development made public would've got them on his ass. He could've theoretically killed his donations page, finished it himself and released it under the radar after everything blew over but he decided to cut the demos at the final boss and he says he's going to make other projects and try to get them on Steam. Honestly I still think it's worth playing, even if it'll never be done and fully translated.

See the yellow outlines making Tetris shapes around some blocks? They're hollow. You fill them in with corresponding block, like fire blocks in double cast outlines. There's no command bar or color limit, but only like commands can fit into the outlines. Its also base state, passive buffs, and abilities too, not just MMBN's buffs

That is probably different enough in Capcom's eyes, since you don't have the color limits and whatnot.

But would there be anything else that Capcom could get on his ass for, if he did remove the copyright materials, that is? I mean, I don't think that making a BN-style game itself should be illegal... Right?

Reviewers aren't going to be happy if they just rerelease 3 again and again.

I dunno, I think there might be a Megaman poster somewhere as a reference, and I'm sure there are other such references (like the StarForce AddOns). Well that and the part where he called them Net Navis wholesale. I don't know how the case would go over in Japan admittedly but he ultimately just took the safe option and ducked when the game was pretty much done sans postgame elements. I don't blame him myself, it's just unfortunate.

Hmm, pretty unfortunate. The demo was fun enough (Fuck Yorihime, though, that took some tries), sad that we will never get the full version.

What about 1?

Not him but I personally hate 5 more than 4 and 1

never 4get

jacking in from afar was more improbable.

one step from eden is kinda fun, even if it does mix in deckbuilding roguelite shit. there's a demo with a decent amount of hidden stuff if you want to give it a spin too tmkang.itch.io/osfe

Attached: 93YTK6[1].gif (540x404, 2.94M)

oh whoops someone already mentioned it

the kickstarter was for "8+ characters and bosses," whatever that means (beat a boss to unlock their playable version maybe?). also got a stretch goal for pet summons and whatnot so it seems like there's a decent amount of stuff to mix it up

This children's cartoon would get censored by Nintendo Treehouse today.

>tfw GETTING +800%

Attached: uiSherman.jpg (512x512, 58K)

i hate capcom so goddamn much

Attached: 1400973020727.jpg (500x738, 52K)

Given where it aired it probably got censored in America back then too.

Starforce literally sucks the soul out of what made MMBN charming

What is that exactly?

Sengoku Rance...

Goddamn i'd love another game with that playstyle without all the anime and hentai shit in it

Then... just get rid of it? I forgot that was even a mechanic in this series

Gets rid of the fast-paced gameplay and replaced it with an awful first-person system. I knew it was a bad idea a decade ago and I still do.

"Make a substitute that doesn't break the stupid patent" would be better, I think

Kind of hurts

Attached: 8745A505-D8E8-46A4-91D2-0E6F91F93001.jpg (256x384, 53K)

Wow, that... actually looks aweso-
>Kickstarter game
No thanks

It was still fast paced, and they had to throw a new spin on it somehow.

At least that's being considered to get a sequel in the next 2-4 years thanks to kingdom hearts and the switch port. MMBN hasn't even been mentioned by Capcom in 13 years.

I was more so talking about the dual screen style. Shit was great.

it got on wii u VC with the event chips added
which is something i guess

it was shit m8. There's a reason why people more foundly remember BN over SF even though SF's story and characterizations kick the shit out of BN and the battle system is a huge part of it . You won't be seeing any SF clones popping up anytime soon

I don't really care about clones, all I know is capcom would probably come up with another sequel series with an new gameplay to style to starforce if they ever brought it back.

Why? The series was dead.

Battle Network collection for Switch with working multiplayer when? If they had multiplayer working, I'd buy it, even when they'd still just be roms

not user, but it died due to capcom over-saturated it with releasing a game every year like they did with the other games, if they made a new one now it'll be a guaranteed hit

Over-saturation plus 4 being a thing, I'd wager. 5 and 6 were great, but 4 left a mark regardless

It had concluded its arc for that series and that era of technology.

>The Navi customization is patented and the author can't do shit about it
no it wasn't you retards

the shanghai exe author tried to monetize his megaman fangame via japanese patreon (something like Enty.JP) and capcom had to step in

Kingdom Hearts already has something very similar to that

The kingdom hearts system is different enough from navcust

Probably been done already.

bump

Capcom always runs things into the ground though.

See THIS makes a lot more sense, considering that there are a few other BN fangames in development that have been around longer than shanghai without getting slapped with a C&D

no

...yes?

If fitting blocks in a grid can be patented there would be a lot more litigation.

Which is why the patent is probably a bit more specific, so only a BN-like game would run into this issue, or something. Someone ought to look over the patents Capcom has and see if anything is found, though the problem here is that they have a lot of patents...

Yeah I doubt it's that general.

1 was fine. It was a good start to the series, but not a good as 3 imo

>its real
Ultrajew move on capcoms part, this is like bandai taking a patent out on loading screen minigames and then doing nothing with them

Attached: IMG_20190308_185228.jpg (360x249, 21K)

Nothing to use it for.

Yeah, when you beat the boss, you unlock them as a playable character, at least thats what the devs said. good know that there's gonna be a bunch of em. i love rougeshits so its right up my taste

I have fond memories of the way the Medabots GBA RPGs handled party members and JRPG battle mechanics.
