I’ve explored the open world for 20 hours and have only found: -Shrines with mediocre puzzles and boring rewards. -Korok Seeds, which are all aquired in the same 4 “””””””puzzles””””””” over and over in different locations. -Tons of materials, turning the combat into a joke. -The same fucking braindead and boring monsters. -A few bosses extremely easy to cheese.
It’s not that the combat is bad, it’s that there really is nothing to do, the world map is completely empty. I have over 300 Bobokin Horns and i’m alreasy sick of playing it. Also the music is... there isn’t? There’s no fucking music.
How the fuck did this get a 97 on metacritic? It’s like the reviewers didn’t play any open world game before, it’s the kind of reaction you expect of a kid playing a game for the first time, BoTW has nothing special or interesting in it.
I play Gary's mod for that. I'm used to Zelda having a bit more substance to it. I think people took the ff13 too linear meme to heart, and now devs are scared to have anything but an open world game with little direction.
Landon Gutierrez
This is bait.
Until you rub up against a barrier imposed by the fact that the devs didn't put enough effort into that specific part of the game. How many different ways can I infiltrate the Gerudo village for instance? BotW is only capable of being "Freedom: the game" when the challenge is born from using the interactions of systems to attain a simple goal.
Zachary James
Not bait, the world map is literally empty.
Ayden Nelson
seething
Jeremiah Thomas
Ironically BOTW is at its best when it limits freedom like the stretch of combat and neat level design leading to the Zora place or the Yiga Hideout
Jaxson Edwards
Best game ever made
Camden Reed
>this guy again
You need a trip so we can filter you
Jason Allen
As someone who considers it one of the greatest games of all time, even better than OOT or ALTTP, it's the freedom. I value the game letting me do whatever I want after the tutorial, while providing plenty of content both handcrafted and by simple environment interactions. Feels like a real adventure like the first Zelda, not an "experience" like many of the other games I've played.
For example it's the difference between Dark Souls and DMC. Dark Souls is about the experience and the mechanics are the supplement, whereas DMC 90% of the fun is the mechanics. That's BoTW
>not an "experience" like many of the other games I've played.
What even defines an "experience" video game? I've seen so many people say they wish they could forget BOTW in order to "experience" it again.
A game that emphasizes "discovery" where people made such a big fuss on not spoiling it for yourself, seems like exactly the kind of thing I'd call an "experience". Which is why I don't think the game lends itself well to replays.
You can't discover something twice.
Ayden Hill
I think I need to start a third playthrough of this game after stopping midway through two so far. At first I just played kind of aimlessly; second I put a little more thought in charting exactly which part of "anywhere" I felt like going at a given time--but then found that there's definitely an intended order, albeit loose, for clearing the game's major objectives and fell off again. So now I'm thinking about doing a third where I structure my play around figuring out how the game wants me to play it within its vast scope.
I'm still pissed that after such stress and care was put into making this game so much different from the other 3D Zeldas and reinvent it based on the roots of the series' basic premise, the 3D movement and targeting engine is still just fucking Ocarina of Time.
Carson Jones
Todd liked this
Sebastian Garcia
It's literally the most dumbshit easy game I've ever played, you can fucking pause the game and eat a banquet every time you get hit.
Nathaniel Russell
Because gamers are stupid and easy to control through shilling.
Christian Morgan
we tried a criticism thread earlier today and it was quickly swarmed by fanboys who just repsonded with things like >its not for you >you just didnt get it >this doesnt count etc. You cannot criticise this game on Yea Forums.
Yes, its hugely overrated and was a real letdown for anyone who wanted a proper Zelda game with more than just an empty field and a couple of gimmicks to play out the same encounter over and over again. But don't try to say this on Yea Forums
Ayden Jones
>basically a mix of mgsv and dark souls with zelda elements, but actually finished >anderson loves it >vinny loves it >matthewmatosis loves it >fags here still spam about how much they hate it I just don't get it.
I don't even like the game, but these threads are just getting old. Everything anyone could say about the game has already been said a million times already.
it's comfy. If you play a game and look at it critically, yeah it's flaws are going to be glaring. But if you ever tried to play a game just to enjoy it, it can charm you. But some games just don't work for some people. I really enjoyed kh games, but kh3 really rubbed me the wrong way that I just didn't even bother finishing it.
An "experience" is something that you have approach it in one or some cases a few ways. OOT is the perfect example. Besides two dungeons you can go out of order, everything is aligned exactly how nintendo wanted you to approach it, with certain equipment, etc. and you play within the confines of their design. Obviously OOT is a great game, so this approach isn't wrong or even bad, but a lot of games follow that formula and give you little freedom. Most modern open world games gate content like that. In the new Spiderman you get like 4 types of side content you can do besides hidden stuff. You have to progress the story, more side content unlocks, and so on and so on till game over. It's just a stretched out version of that same "experience" design
BoTW is much more about playing with mechanics, see what happens, do whatever you want and when you're done, beat the game and end it. I agree discovery isn't a great model for replay, but not every game can be good at everything. Breath of the Wild lost a lot in terms of combat depth, themeing, story, and replay value just to go all in on exploration. It's a breath of fresh air. I would hate it if every game did what it does, but on it's own I love it If you're really worried about difficulty, just limit yourself. Having easy combat is necessary for the world design though, if every situation was a full on endeavor it would feel like a slog. I do think they sacrificed too much and should have made some encounters a lot harder, like Lynels and the Bosses
After spending the first few hours of the game on the Great Plateau (probably the best tutorial area in any game ever) here's what I did:
Found the 2nd tower Climbed the Duelling Peaks and completed the shrines there. Encountered my first fully functioning Guardian. Found Kakario and Hateno Villages, each with their own unique culture, lore and side quests to spend hours in. Caught and tamed a horse and found my first stable Fought a Dragon on a mountaintop Travelled to an Island which became an amazing survival challenge all on it's own. Fighting 3 giant ogre brothers Ran a gauntlet of enemy camps on the way to Zora City Zora City itself A pant-shitting stealth mission on a mountain top to collect arrows from a centaur monster Using those arrows in a one-on-one battle with a giant mechanical beast in a lake while riding on the back of a merman Conquering inside of the mechanical beast and subsequent boss battle
While all this is going on I'm constantly engaged with the world around me: weather and climate forces me to adapt to how I travel. The topography and verticality makes getting to destinations fun and engaging. I'm finding subterranean shrines with their own unique challenges and obstacle courses, I'm finding various types of korok puzzles, I'm stumbling into boss battles with huge Rock Monsters, Ogres, Centuars and Skeletal Giants, I'm finding myself ambushed on the road by assassins disguised as NPCs, I'm racing against time to catch falling stars before the sun rises, I'm battling enemy camps, saving local NPCs from danger, and fending off bears and wolves.
All of this happened to me in ONE FUCKING CORNER OF THE MAP.
This "no-content" meme seems to only exist in place of people having a genuine argument against the game.
I'm sure shitters will try their best to convince nobody but themselves that it "doesn't count!"
Because nintodlers are a decade behind everyone else. This games open world is assassin creed tier but because they’ve literally never played a game like that they think it’s the greatest thing in the world
Landon Peterson
Finding Zora's Domain by going south from Akkala is pretty damn amazing though. Especially if you don't even have a clue of Zora's Domain being there.
Luis Hernandez
>nintodlers are a decade behind everyone else.
Yawn. Its actually boring listening to your two-year long meltdown because you can't handle reality.
Nintendo are known for making genre-defining classics. They will keep on making many more. Cry all the way home little piggie.
I 100%ed this game because I'm a neet who loves Zelda. Only two things stood out to me the entire game, the entire zora area excluding the dungeon itself and the final boss. Everything else just felt shallow and boring, but the world looked very pretty even though it had nothing in it.
Gabriel Flores

TOP KEK. You have to wake up everyday in a world where BotW is considered one of the greatest games of all time and there's nothing you can do. How do you even cope?
Nintodlers looove game journalists because they are fellow estronauts who worship companies
Connor Foster
>>reviews don't count when the conflict with my narrative >>awards don't count when the conflict with my narrative >>rival developer opinions don't count when the conflict with my narrative >>your personal opinion does't count when the conflict with my narrative LMAO are you arguing against yourself?
Jackson Roberts
I cope by not sucking IGN’s dick, yikes dude.
Luke Fisher
Normally I'd tell you to not be lazy and look it up yourself but I'm feeling generous
Hated OOT as a kid (yet, ironically, fucking loved Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon and Beyond Good & Evil), thought MM was alright but never finished it, literally sold my Gamecube because I got to the Triforce part (and got two peices of it) in WW because of how fucking bad it was, didn't play TP, started SS and barely got anywhere because it was so fucking boring, didn't play any of the DS spinoffs, absolutely fucking loved LOZ, AOL, LA, LTTP, OOS/OOA, never played Minish Cap, and yet managed to get nearly 95 hours of enjoyment out of BOTW.
I'm not giving it a positive nor negative review, I'm just stating my experiences with the franchise and what BOTW gave me.
the devs mentioned in are indies, yes. No where in that article is ubisoft, bethesda, or the witcher mentioned, nor did I imply that they were. You're making up arguments at this point
So this explains why BoTW can’t be criticized here, it’s literally 2 or 3 Erics who live only to defend their ubishit garrys mode garbage game on 4chins.
Chase Stewart
SEETHING E E T H I N G

i have all the consoles and a computer.
how many hours do you have on botw? Getting to zora's domain and giving up doesnt count snoy
Eric is the anti-Nintendo spammer, we need a new name for this autist
Chase Russell
I already beat the game cuck, the towns are the definition of soulless and the vistas are a joke when the game looks like an early PS3 game like assassin’s creed 2 but with even more grass removed.
I get why they did that tho, the game drops to 15 fps docked when fighting more than 2 enemies on the jungle area with the floating dragon.
Yikes, 15 fps, they really went for the cinematic feel.
Julian Smith
Been playing games for 25years. BotW is my favorite game. So you are just a faggot or something I guess.
Robert Miller
Yes they are you stupid fuck.
Joshua Thomas
Do you always form your opinion on what big review sites say?
Noah Clark
it really doesnt drop to 15 fps. Not even in handheld
nowhere in the game does framerate drop to 15 fps
stop over exaggerating
Parker Ramirez
>Been playing games for 25years. And you stupid fucking cunt?
Gabriel Cox
post screenshot of your playtime from your switch thanks
Ethan Cruz
they aren't, check the article if you don't believe me, it's indies all the way down
Kayden Foster
It does when there’s more than 2 enemies and the floor actually has grass and doesn’t look like a PS2 game.
If it rains it drops lower than that.
Wyatt Harris
LOL
MEANWHILE...
BOTW IS ONE OF THE GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME.
AND THERE'S NOTHIMG YOU CAN DO.
PLEASE CRY FOR TWO MORE YEARS BECAUSE THAT'S YOUR ONLY OPTION.

Jaxon Perry
OK, NOW THIS... is... EPIC
I was really on the fence about this game
But now that I know theses based game companies love this game I too now love this game!
Gavin Ramirez
can you back up that statement with proof?
Brayden Ramirez
>Let's me do whatever I want But what is there actually to do? This is the issue. There's nothing to find. The core thesis of the game is great and I'm glad they were so unapologetically focused on freedom but they did nothing with it.
Tyler Wood
Post your moms tits first Jamal, i’m not at my house and i don’t take my Switch with me because i’m not pathetic like you.
Owen Sanchez
False
Alexander Ward
How about you stop posting? Your IQ is too low.
Bentley Moore
You okay there champ?
Ethan Green
Easy explanation: >Switch was the last console Nintendo had to really become relevant again (and partly succeeded) by merging both of their markets >Heavy advertising associated with the Switch launch, hundreds of millions spent with this game as a poster child for the console >Game was given free with Switch consoles to review outlets and literallywho youtubers >A massive about of time and ad revenue was dumped into the game for almost a year
It's just a meme game that Switch fanboys use nowadays to pretend they have games. It honestly bored me to sleep multiple times, unironically. Even Subnautica is a better open world game and its indie.
Charles Barnes
Matthewmatosis put it best, even though he likes the game a lot more than I did. The mechanics are fleshed out and a lot of fun to play with, but at the expense of not having extrinsic motivations to use them, or level designs that make the most of them. If playing around with the mechanics and exploring the world just because you want to see it is something you can have fun with, you'll like the game. I didn't like it that much. Theres too many ways to cheese the game once you have enough resources, so you can only make it more difficult by purposefully gimping yourself, and there wasn't enough in the game world to keep me interested in explorarion.
Jack Martinez
If we rank games purely based on how many pros and cons they may have, then: Tetris is a 10/10 game. BotW is a 8.5/10 game. But that 8.5 is far, far more valuable than Tetris' 10. See what I'm getting at?
Kevin Fisher
Paid reviews.
James Brooks
What is there to do that doesn't boil down to the equivalent of an MMO quest?
Bentley Bennett
why are people so upset? It's funny there's more time wasted on trying to argue the appeal of this game than just playing what you like.
>But that 8.5 is far, far more valuable than Tetris' 10. in your opinion
Lincoln Cooper
Oh you have none. How surprising LOL
Sebastian Lee
THIS
SO MUCH FUCKING THIS
THIS PROVES SKYRIM IS THE BEST GAME EVER!
Julian Perez
No ones upset, why can't people criticize a game? The fact that you need people to be upset to dislike something is extremely insecure.
Isaac Cook
Then screenshot it when you get home. Not that hard :)
Hudson Wright
Are you upset about my 97-rated game and best selling console champ?
Alexander Wood
Ummm uhhh placing a rock in a circle 100 times and uhhh landing on a circle of flowers in the water 80 times and uhh moving a square into a group of squares 60 times and uhh...
Oh oh!! And you’ll also fight the same retarded looking goblins 600 times plus skeletons at night!
Robert Diaz
holy fuking mother of based
Jason Ortiz
You expect me to buy a capture card or something nigger? Just play the game lmao, it’s a slideshow.
John Diaz
No, it is. Just like how getting 100% on a kindergarten test is a lot different to an 80% on a rocket-surgeon 6-month-long project in university. There's plenty of fallacies and nitpicks you could use to argue that the uni project kid is dumber than the kindergarten kid but anyone will see right through you because they're not dumb. BotW's scope is massive and it actually does live up to it, something very little (if any up until this point) open-world games do.
Nah I've played it myself, it was pretty good. Doesn't change the fact that you're a severely autistic fanboy spamming every time you see criticism
Jose Lee
that's a different article from , which is what I was saying the entire time. Is English your second language?
Nathaniel Cook
>literally years after release >no one gives a shit and keep making better games
Huh? I guess devs value content and competent combat over gimmicky tech demos.
Ethan Kelly
why not show benchmarks from youtubers or something? Snoys seethe so hard when they have to back up their claims to not look like retards
Julian Lopez
Dang. You fags still mad that BotW got GOTY and Horizon didn't even get an award. BotW is a salt mine.
Aiden Hill
Forgot to add The game got so popular because it's essentially a casual game. Moving around the world is easy, combat is almost always avoidable, and because it isn't linear, theres no bottlenecks to keep you from going forward. In another zelda game, you would pick it up and get through whatever part you had to get through before moving on (even though the other games weren't 100 percent linear) BotW is like minecraft or nintendogs. It's much more suited for picking up and bumming around until you turn it off. That's why the intrinsic vs extrinsic distinction is important. Casual players are a huge audience, and most of them dont need a lot of extrinsic motivators like gear and content hidden behind difficulty spikes. If the game looks good, sounds good, and is fun on a basic mechanical level, casual players will be satisfied. That's why I can't call the game a failure even though I didn't like it. Every decision made ended up making BotW the perfect game for casuals.
Jonathan Anderson
why are you comparing a puzzle game to an open world game in the first place when Tetris is by and large the de facto puzzle game
Adam Johnson
insecure about what? I'm just posting screenshots whilst in between each post I make there's like 5+ posts going "U HAVENT PLAYED IT" and replied with "YES I HAVE STICK A DICK UP YO MOM"
nothing is criticism in this thread. Nothing hasn't been said before. It's literally just people crying over why it's a bad game to the people who think it's a master piece.
Brandon Cooper
What is there to do in any video game? All it is is pushing buttons on a controller. So boring
Cameron Reed
Keep seething lmao.
Justin Ward
Why did you chose to be mad for two consecutive years?
Mason Stewart
That’s a good question, you’ve been seething for 2 years Zelda-Kun, isn’t it time you let it go?
Ryan Russell
So there's no answer to my question. Cool :)
Samuel Ross
Yes user, BotW has the exact same audience as Nintendogs and Minecraft because you can take the long route to Zora's Domain. Try not to think too hard about Hyrule Castle, any of the 4 dungeons and any of the 120 shrines. Very thought-provoking, you have truly established BotW as a shit game by TRUE GAMER standards.
Nathaniel Anderson
i still see no proof that the game drops to 15 fps
It wasn't rhetorical at all I genuinely wanted to know what they experienced. It's clearly not what I experienced but that doesn't mean I can't learn and change my mind.
Christopher Green
>pick up rock >find item Uh, yeah? You have played a zelda game before...right?
Henry Perry
They experienced a 97 GOTY. How hard is that to understand?
You will still be seething over BotW in March 2020. Lol
Jaxon Jenkins
I started playing it recently. It's pretty good but I see where the criticism comes from. The world is indeed really empty, and while Zelda games never had the thoughest puzzles, the sanctuaries are way to simple. Also the weapon duration is annoying.
Samuel Brown
I played it and sold it almost full price. Game is shit. Mechanics are great. Game is shit though. Also super mario oddessy sucked dick too.
Caleb Moore
It’s funny because there are like 100 seeds you find the same way but the retarded game still plays the song and acts as if it was a puzzle.
Maybe Anouma is legitimately braindead.
Noah Gray
Not him but there's plenty of well fleshed-out shrines, quests and areas in the game. Here's just a smidgen of them: >Eventide Island >The three labyrinths >Typhlo Ruins >Finding the Korok Forest >Finding Lurelin Village >The quest where you have to cast lightning using a metal weapon to blow up a giant boulder >The Stolen Heirloom: Tailing the three suspects and finding out the guard's backstory >Pretty much all the Gerudo Town quests, like trailing the source of all the melon rinds, the forggoten sword, eavesdropping to get the secret shop's password, etc. >Finding The Lord of the Mountain >Freeing the dragon covered in malice >Kass' questline and discovering his backstory
Isaac Martinez
It drops in grassy areas and shit all the time you fuck
Oliver Rodriguez
still no proof of that claim
i never had fps problems on my system
Anthony Miller
The very lowest the game is capable of going is 20FPS, and that's in pre-patch Korok Forest and that one specific spot in Great Plateau.
Carter Parker
OK so you didn't go to the korok forest
Brandon Wright
A non-game cannot be one of the greatest games of all time. Play GTA3.
Then GTA4.
Then GTA5.
Then Morrowind.
Then Oblivion.
Then Skyrim.
Then realize this retarded game came out after all of these.
Brody Morales
I've played all of those though and BotW is substantially better.
Christian Richardson
i've been on Yea Forums for 12 years and your bait is obvious.
Christian Roberts
>Ubisoft, EA, Rockstar, etc. have been making open world games for a decade or even longer >genre is stagnating >Nintendo shows up >having no background in AAA 3D open world development, they decide on a whim "Here, let me try that" >right off the bat, Nintendo make the best open world game ever made on their very first attempt using a fucking toaster.
This will never not be hilarious. Jelly shitters still absolutely fucking seething over two years later. Why can't anyone compete with Nintendo?
Its because its success is directly tied to the success of the Switch.
You see, a lot of the tweens on this board joined during the Wii U days. They were used to seeing Nintendo being the butt of everyone's jokes - a failed console, a dead CEO etc.
It was good times for shitposting and many of these deluded moronic children honestly believed that Nintendo would soon be out of business.
When Nintendo unveiled their new console - bizarre handheld hybrid, and the new Zelda looked visually simple compared to Horizon - they definitely thought this was it, Nintendo would be looking at another colossal failure and bankruptcy. They were honestly rubbing their hands with glee in anticipation.
When BotW hit, and it turned out to be one of most acclaimed games of all time, and the Switch turned into a smash juggernaut hit overnight, it catastrophically damaged their psyche. They couldn't believe it and refused to accept. This was not how it was supposed to be. Nintendo should be dead. But instead they get heralded as the greatest developer on the planet and their new consolen is a massive success.
Even two years later they're still trying to rationalise the whole affair in their minds and deny it all ever happened. It was all a mistake and a conspiracy!
i wish it could be confidently ascertained that you are trolling, but this dumpster fire of a game did indeed get 97 so posts like yours just come off as some weird hivemind shared delusion. Its like this game suddenly flipped a switch in peoples heads that telling lies is a-okay and to do it all the time. Its tranny hillary-voter mentality desu.
Tell me, what does it do for you to believe BotW is a good game?
What does it do for (You)?
Matthew Hall
Why? You don't care what I think.
And I don't give two fucks about your worthless opinion.
All I know is that you have to wake up every day in a world where BotW is one of the greatest games ever made and there's nothing you can do. Nothing but CRY.
you post this in every BOTW thread and every time it's blatantly false, Monolith Soft's involvement means it wasn't a blind attempt and the fact that they pulled a majority of the staff means they had years of experience going in
Leo Howard
actually I'm on the fence about buying a switch for animal crossing but ok be that way you corroded cunt
lol you're wanting to be right so fucking bad you didn't even read the whole post did you
Bentley Bennett
You have a feel a little sorry for them too. They have their heads so far up their ass they can't enjoy BotW. It is a fantastic game and they are trying so hard to hate it that they ruin their own experience. Although missing out on such a great game seems suitable punishment for their foolishness.
Anthony Roberts
>Literally seething, lmao.
Yes I'm seething about my 97-rated GOTY lmao
You don't even understand how little you matter. As do I. But at least I know BotW isn't going to stop being one of the most acclaimed games ever made just because of jealousy.
Jordan Foster
>He has an entire collection of big review sites quotes with wojak and posts the same autismo pasta in every thread.
Oof, poor Zelda-Kun.
Nathaniel Flores
Fun fact, I played all those games plus red dead redemption and AC and dropped them all like a week later. Breath of the Wild made me realize all those games were prototypes for the first good and fun open world game. Like several reviewers pointed out, BotW's main differences to other open world games is the fact that it actually REWARDS you for going to unexpected places and the sidequests are completely optional instead of being forced to finish the game.
Ryan Hernandez
This thread is fun. It's like fucking with FFXV-kun.
You don't know jack shit about game design son. Monolith were there executing Nintendo's design brief and doing the donkey work. Thats why Monolith have never made open world game as good as BotW. Keep seething and trying to find some new angle to stop that evil Nintendo Corp. getting any recognition.
Lincoln Brooks
I’m playing through it for the first time through and I like it a lot but honestly the eastern side of the map is so much more fleshed out than the western. The west is really empty, the bird beast has no quests leading up to it and is easy and even the desert is quick to finish and empty. Zora area was the high light
>if FF15 was a success this is what final fantasy threads would've turned into maybe it's for the best
where did I say I hated Nintendo
Aaron Scott
you want to argue about relevancy but keep some sort of egotist view for your goofy shit thinking a game means more than the activity of life in general. I'm not even arguing it's a shit game but here you are forcing the shit down my throat like my friend tried to do me with mass effect. you're the plague here, shill. you're just mad [you?] got caught because someone posted your archived spam posts.
People have known this game was shit even before it was released.
There is no point to saying "LOL UR SEETHING FOR 2 YEARS" cause there is equally no point to even posting about BotW every goddamn day.
Anyone who thinks hate on this game was developed over time is a delusional retard. People knew it was empty bullshit garbage since day-1. Other people also insisted it was GOTY since day-1. The point is that the game in actuality is simply POLARIZING and cocksucking faggoty vidya journalism did not reflect this FACT in the least.
Brody Phillips
Daggerfall is better than morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.
Can you at least try? This is embarrassing. BotW isn't going to stop being one of the most acclaimed games of all time unless you TRY! Believe in yourself! You can make it happen lol!
Daniel Thompson
I can't name a single aspect of this game that requires an ounce of thought. Even exploring is as dumbed down as it can get. I don't know how climbing gets so much praise.
Usually when you want to get from point A to point B, you have to think about how to accomplish that. Big mountain in your way? You think about how to navigate around or through it to overcome the obstacle. Here, you just point at destination and go forward. Hit mountain? Me climb mountain. Me glide toward point B. Me climb thing again towards point B. Me glide towards point B.
The map in a gameplay sense is as flat as a map can be. A lot like Just Cause. What does any terrain, finely crafted or not, matter if it is never an obstacle to overcome?
Some of it is genuine sadness/disbelief at what Zelda has become.
Michael Carter
I finished BotW over two years ago. Amazing game. Why are you still upset by it?
Blake Morgan
So glad i didn’t buy a Shitch for this, emulated it on PC, 2K at 60 frames, it was okay, nothing special.
Adam Stewart
Reviews were paid. Awards were based on metacritic, which were the paid reviews. The only relevant bigger name devs that praised it either made shitty games or saw BotW as a bigdick masturbatory effory for copying elements from their own games, like asscreed and skyrim devs.
>jew
Jacob Cook
LOL shitpost harder crybaby.
Jordan Ortiz
It’s okay though, Nintendofags made the decision, they’ll praise this game even if it means the death of Zelda.
Get ready for more ubisoft tower climbing simulators, we are never getting a linear Zelda again.
Charles Nguyen
Look at this fucking DELUSION. Shitters have to invent a quasi-sinister alternative reality to live in rather than just admit Nintendo made good game.
Why didn’t they just make another Ocarina of Time? It’s literally the perfect game, timeless graphics, the greatest soundtrack, the most intellectual fights, challenging puzzles, excellently crafted lore, and every move and item is always relevant to the game. There’s just never going to be another 10/10 Zelda until they put that effort in again.
Gavin Jackson
>Why didn’t they just make another Ocarina of Time?
They did. 4 times already. Why would you want them to keep making the same thing over and over? Zelda isn't CoD or FIFA. Nintendo at least try to bring something new to table.
>There’s just never going to be another 10/10 Zelda until they put that effort in again.
He doesn't know.
Landon Thomas
pretty sure the BOTW guy is just Gladium posting without his tripcode on
Camden Jones
Makes sense since both seem constantly angry and post with the same low IQ reddit spacing style.
It’s cute that he uses the tripcode to act moderate though, lol.
morrowind has better exploration, and that is 28 years old
Jonathan Bennett
>How the fuck did this get a 97 on metacritic? It’s like the reviewers didn’t play any open world game before
Are you serious? BotW is so well-designed it made nearly every other open world game seem unplayable overnight. If you can't understand why then god help you.
Fuck off zoomer. The biggest shock factor of NES Zelda in '86 was the fact it WASN'T linear. That was the point.
Jordan Gonzalez
>MM and WW were the only OoT-like Zelda games.
Twilight Princess is almost a straight fucking remake dude.

I love how much butt frustration this game has caused Yea Forums. It's fucking beautiful. So many of you guys just cant COPE with the fact that botw is one of the best games ever made. Think of this in 5 years when you're still making threads about it, only by then you'll be trying to get on the nostalgia bandwagon.
Liam Moore
far more fun in what way? it has fuck all in terms of story, so that isnt a draw. the combat is terrible and there is no developing your character to create a fun playstyle.
Ayden Foster
lmao i’m going to start doing the same.
Cooper Fisher
that's a 3DS
Luke Cruz
>the combat is terrible Yeah MW had such awesome combat by comparison. Have you ever even played a video game, you fucking retard?

thats literally every game. but i bet you still complained when diablo 3 put a timer on healing potions

I don’t know how you can enjoy portable Shitch with that right stick placement, makes the console unplayable.

'fun' is subjective, BotW is boring.
Thomas Reed

Juan Young
>far more fun in what way?
As in, I was enjoying myself a lot more when I played it. In fact, I was enjoying playing BotW than most video games I've ever played.
It controls beautifully, even just aimlessly wandering around feels good.
But I guess I'm in a minority. Oh no, wait, I'm not.
Dominic Wood
Almost everything introduced in LoZ1 was carried forward into the other Miyamoto zeldas. Dungeon order, gated overworld progression based on dungeon items, magical instruments, among others.
You're the actual zoomer cause you obviously never completed LoZ1. The game was structured, as most Zeldas have been, as BotW isn't.
Michael Hughes
'boring' is subjective, BotW is fun.

BotW isn't a ONE-TO-ONE remake of NES Zelda. But its a deliberate attempt to strip back 30 years of over-familiarity and bring the series right back to its core design concept - the player goes off on their own adventure, making their own choices and the story unfolds according to them. s >BUT-BUT-BUT-BUT
But fuck all. This is obvious to anyone who has played both games and Nintendo have spoken at great lengths about it.
There exists this pathetic stance amongst haters who refuse to accept that BotW is a blatant homage to the original NES Zelda because they can't stand the idea of legitimsing the game.
Brandon Nguyen
>Change my mind.
Nobody gives a fuck what you think.
BotW is one of the most acclaimed games of all time.
Change reality.
Josiah Roberts
Third. Imagine being an americunt and thinking speaking more languages is an insult xD
Ian Butler
Zelda NES was kinda shit, stop trying to force that meme, it doesn’t fit and even if it did it wouldn’t make your ubishit tower climbing simulator any better.
Hunter Hill
I'm so fucking sick of seeing people not even being able to take a single criticism of BOTW. The game is not perfect and has some significant flaws when compared to previous Zelda entries. The dungeons suck ass and had no personality that really set them apart, a good amount of shrines are just not fun, and there's no actual likable character that's there for more than 5 minutes. The game' an 8/10, a good game but an average Zelda game
TP was an entirely brand new game sharing almost no similarities beyond a few facade skin-deep references, chock full of shitty experimental ideas like wolfshit and half-baked exclusions of staple concepts like magic and instruments. It was the first memegame from aonuma where he thought je could make a Zelda game by just slapping OoT assets all over it, like the Hylian Shield, Epona, and Gorons. The gameplay is very much dissimilar though.
MM and WW are the only two 3D Zeldas which play like OoT, and desu neither were better. MM was polarizing for its edgy themes and time limit, while WW was polarizing for its artstyle. In full effect, OoT remains unique in its style of play AND universal enjoyment, and Nintendo are actually shitters who merely got lucky once and can't seem to do anything anymore but make callbacks to it.

Best at what, exactly? Electing mongoloids and going bankrupt from simple medical procedures?
GTA4 is a multiplat and doesn't cause as much butthurt.
See, most shitters don't hate BotW.
They hate Nintendo.

lol bitch please, america invented those medical procedures and bankruptcy and those mongoloids may be our worst but they're still better than your best don't forget all the other shit america has invented: democracy, freedom, tits, electric cars, electricity, gravity. fucking europoors can't compete anymore because all of their best people left to join the A team.

almost every game is better when a narrative is present. sandbox shit gets stale unless the core gameplay is extremely solid and non-repetitive while giving the player adequate freedom. BotW gives you the freedom but nothing actually worthwhile to keep you going. Playing through fucking Skyrim for the xth time is more interesting than open-meme zelda
Daniel Perry
No, GTA4 is still amazing. It is legitimately a better game than BotW even in 2019.
Metacritic agrees.

Is there any reason why the only people who praise nintendo games are the ones i think dont play games?
Gabriel Kelly

Joshua Moore
lmao the desperation is real.

BotW got more praise with more critics. Do the maths.
Also, BotW has a higher userscore (and that's AFTER getting review-bombed to hell by seething sonyfags)
Jayden Reyes
And here you are, TWO YEARS later.
lmao you'll get over it will you? Between BotW, Mario Odyssey and the juggernaut smash hit the switch has become, I'm amazed you haven't committed suicide yet. How do you cope?

And there we have it: the mating call of the faggot.
The hard reality for you cocksuckers I’d this:
All your caterwauling fades into nothing; achieves nothing; produces nothing while BotW continues to exist. Honestly I hope your cynicism and apathy numb the pain and that comes from a place of genuine compassion. Best of luck in your horrible, horrible life.
Henry Campbell
I think the real question is, why are you so threatened by this game's existence you make these kind of threads for 2 years straight?
Evan Thomas
>N-Nothing counts!
Ok faggot, tell us all about those low rated metacritic games you enjoy. KYS
Juan Morris
Overrated? Really, overrated? Do you know what's overrated? Talking about this game every single day and complaining about it. We just can't do it can we Yea Forums? Not a day. Not a single fucking day can we just go by and enjoy talking about other games without someone making a thread complaining about a game that came out two years ago for a console they don't even care about and a company they want to see dead in the water.
Why? I don't fucking get it, can't we just stop talking about Breath of the Wild for one fucking measly day? That's all I ask and it's all I want. Maybe then, if we let one simple day go by then maybe, just fucking maybe it'll slip people's minds and eventually we can get past this game and argue, laugh, joke, mock or whatever the fuck about another game that other people enjoy. Can we just fucking stop talking about this game already, please?
>lmao you'll get over it will you? Between BotW, Mario Odyssey and the juggernaut smash hit the switch has become, I'm amazed you haven't committed suicide yet. How do you cope? i've only come into threads like these because of you. the only people i've ever seen praise nintendo products beyond "yeah its alright" are journalists and mega autistics like you
literally caring more about MEANINGLESS (yes read it very clearly) numbers assigned to a game more than gameplay features try asking people what games they enjoy, rather than what metacritic approved(tm) games they enjoy, maybe people will want to talk to you
Jack Walker
They're still in denial. BotW was supposed to bomb. The Switch was supposed to fail.
They can't cope and they keep trying to find a reason, some way of convincing themselves its not true. Its pretty sad. Funny, but sad.
Kayden Myers
>try asking people what games they enjoy
I enjoyed BotW. I'be spoken at great length as to why i think its great. But shitters can't handle that either.
Metacritic deleted pretty much all negative reviews for BotW, so the game actually has an inordinate amount of counter-0's and free 10's, as if most 10/10 user scores literally weren't already retarded with such reviews as random mexican laughing and words, asdfghjk, and 1 sentence nothings like "GOTY".
Its a shitty website and you ultimately make yourself look retarded for referencing it, like citing wikipedia articles when doing original research.
Gabriel James

Just because you don't like something doesn't make it true either.
All I care about is what *I* think. And *I* thought BotW was an amazing gaming experience. I have explained why *I* think that at length.
It just so happens that the vast majority of Planet Earth agrees with me.

But when you wake up tomorrow BotW will STILL be one of the most acclaimed games ever made. Just move on with your life and stop crying about it. Nintendo will make plenty more great games to get upset about.
James Campbell
Please guys, stop talking bad about zelda, if you continue i will call my Wife´s boyfriend to take to the movies and watch capitan marvel to feel a bit better
every game always gets docked points for inconsistent framerates and visual glitches. except BotW. 97. there are actually people who think BotW reviews weren't paid. Thats how deep nintendo's deception runs. There are actually people who think the numerous positive reviews for BotW are indicative of truth.
Fucking sad, yo.
Landon Rogers
Hang on, let me just check Googl-
Nope! BotW is STILL one of the most acclaimed games of all time. What now?
Benjamin Evans
>Still Posting Day One memes >Nintendo will make plenty more great games Its been years and you are still playing their release game. Explain?
Alexander Carter
If you did that early-game, then I take my hat off to you. I was shitting myself the whole time.
Zachary Johnson
Lol the only defense they have is "muh metacritic score" but then say reviews don't matter for Sony exclusives
Owen Rivera
>he thinks shills actually play video games
haha yes i love metacritic and rottentomatos too :)
Nicholas Garcia
Do you know that other things are acclaimed and very popular? superhero moviesand these are good movies? No . But they are backed by fans of BRANDS and normies so loyal that they are not able to see how generic and empty they are, not only that, there is tons of you, allways swallowing everything that your favorite brand throws at you. Cuz Nintendo is my childhood !!!
Adam Miller
Pretty early on, second beast but only had 6 hearts at that point. was still shitting my pants throughout. >the lynel shoots a fire arrow letting you fly into the air using the burning grass and approach it with shock arrows Also I just found out that my bomb arrows weren't glitching and they just won't explode while it's raining. Took me a while
Aiden Brown
Nintendo released another 97-rated game just a few months later.
But you haven't gotten to that game yet. You're still stuck on BotW and trying to make sense of it all. Surely it must be a mistake! The reviews must have been paid! P-P-People just haven't played other games!! It-its all lies!!!!
I look forward to laughing at you losing your shit over Mario Odyssey in 2024.
Jason Lewis
you spend your entire life defending the honor of a multi-billion-dollar corporation and their product on a message board 24/7. you are the *biggest* loser.

you type like a 16 year old, and quite embarrasingly the first thing you said was "the ratings lul", which makes me think you are actually 16 and have no clue how journalism and loyalists works
mario odessey is by all accounts a game for children by the way

>if its bright and colourful that means its for kids and is SHIT!
What an infantile opinion.
I had so much fun with Mario Odyssey let me tell you. Pure gaming bliss.
I can tell you one thing; If BotW had gotten negative reviews I bet those scores would matter to you then.
J E A L O U S Y
James Young
reminder shills are not paid to think and only have to say keywords X amount of times
for instance see how this shill completely forgets that oddesey is LITERALLY nintendo's own self-admitted attempt at introducing the new generation of kids into N64 style games (mario 64, OOT, open world stories etc) rather than saying this and seeming intelligent, he would prefer to just call you a retard and act autistic because he knows people will reply, so then he will get paid more
Noah Reyes
>oddesey is LITERALLY nintendo's own self-admitted attempt at introducing the new generation of kids into N64 style games
Source?
Robert Gomez
>Pure gaming bliss. Why did you enjoy doing the same 10 tasks over and over again for the same shit reward? or do you mean bliss as in it made you feel like you were in a coma?
OP explained why he thinks the game is shit with valid criticisms of its obvious flaws, no one cares if it has a 97 when they already wasted money on it
Daniel Powell
>Why did you enjoy doing the same 10 tasks over and over
Hmmm.... you must be thinking of some other game.
Kayden Taylor
It’s like the third thread in 2 days. Stop trying.
It feels like a game made for kids. Nothing wrong with it, just didn't feel like its supposed to reach me as an adult. Everything, from world design to how easy the korok puzzles were down to difficulty and progression just felt like its aimed at kids, say 9-13 or something.
Nathan Parker
Oh look, its another why do people like this more than me thread? Because they do, you retarded narcissistic faggot. 90+ plus game? It was great sure. But id have given it maybe 89/100. I'm enjoying xenoblade chronicles 2 more. But if you look up the word meta in the dictionary it might clear things up for you a little, you fricking mongoloid. You are not the universe. Know and accept your place in the greater scheme of things, pig.
Michael Miller
Whatever you feel you need to do
Logan Nelson
>You are not the universe. Know and accept your place in the greater scheme of things, pig. go to bed Shodan
>OP explained why he thinks the game is shit with valid criticisms of its obvious flaws
KEK thats it, its over! Nintendo stocks crashing as well speak. Aonuma is holding a press conference in 30 mins time to hand back all the awards. The Switch is finished. Nintendo going 3rd party.
This is what did it for me, just wandering the lands on my horse and being able to climb and travel wherever I wanted was a brand new experience which had never been done on that scale. There was cool stuff to find as well, even if Yea Forums memes it just being shrines and koroks.
It had its flaws like any game, but the open air element to the wilderness was really just phenomenal, especially when coupled with the sound design. When you say it felt like an adventure, you hit the mark just right. I mean a lot of people might shit on this music, but it fit the setting so good. youtube.com/watch?v=7d1DQWqTgBc
For the future, I am very interested to see how they could expand it. Personally I would like a return to themed dungeons, a real hard mode, more enemy variety, and more tools to find along the way like the hookshot for example. And despite loving the open atmosphere, I would like to see how they could introduce more linear segments akin to the original 3d titles while still staying mostly true to the new style.
As a side note, they should really stick to the green tunic, made the experience better for me in a way.
>It feels like a game made for kids. Nothing wrong with it, just didn't feel like its supposed to reach me as an adult.
But BotW treats players with more respect and intelligence than most games and is ultimately far more sophisticated in its game design than most of its peers.
Crazy how so many shills in that thread were straight up lying about the plot and features even in the face of the pastebin code dump. You'd think more people than not would have ended up let down by what the game turned out to be compared to their hopes.
>TFW everyone either buys into a game's hype and sets themselves up for disappointment or is desperate to be contrarian
I just don't get it. Go into everything with low expectations. That's not the same as going into a game with the intention to hate it. And for the contrarians, just remember that plenty of people are trying to be contrarian just like you, so whether you're following the popular opinion or going against it, you're still a moron. You can't win, so just don't play that game, just enjoy what you enjoy.
Dylan Robinson
>But BotW treats players with more respect and intelligence than most games >Put the ball in the hole
>satire someone elses post >"rent free" learn to read psycho also i know for a fact you dont know what YTD means and just clicked tabs until one looked good and screenshotted it tl; dr YTD is not an argument still you called a game designed for 12 year olds "gaming bliss", didnt know it was a sequel and dont care about reading posts so i dont expect you to learn that information

Great game. I wish I had grown up with it as a kid so I could have that sense of wonder of seeing a big 3D adventure world for the first time.

I actually don't remember what I thought of Hyrule field at the time, but I remember thinking that graphics were getting "very realistic".
Sebastian Barnes
As someone who played it as an adult, I didn't think anything too big of it, but it didn't matter to me since it was just a hub used to get from point a to point b.
I always knew the game's real content was waiting elsewhere.
