Do you think we'll ever get another Deus Ex game?
Do you think we'll ever get another Deus Ex game?
No because they're shit.
probably
maybe
0451 games are too niche and will never make a return
dead genre
No because Angry Alejandro Told everyone it was FOURE HOURS, and pre order stuff killed it.
bethesda games sell perfectly well
I really wanted one after finishing MD, but it doesn't seem like we'll get anything in the next few years
wait for postal 4
Beth games are empty openworld shit
>BioShock
>Not Prey
Into the trash it goes
Bioshock 1 shits on Prey and nu-prey though.
>Bethesda
>0451
If you mean the Arkane ones, they all sold terribly
no I mean bethesda games like the elder scrolls
they're basically immersive sims
>Bioshock 1 shits on Prey and nu-prey though.
Bioshock 1 is not even an immersive sim, it's a corridor console FPS (with movement and gunplay that feels awful, to boot).
what do you even call this kind of game?
immersive sim is the coined term.
Action adventure? I can't think of a great descriptor. Hub worlds instead of open world, mission zones outside of the hub worlds sometimes/often, some degree of branching dialogue and a focus on player choice with a relatively fixed ending, varied skill trees and customizations.
Some descriptor with RPG tacked onto it for sure but I can't find a good one. I want to say "character RPG"
>Hub worlds instead of open world, mission zones outside of the hub worlds sometimes/often
Hub world/mission zones is not a requirement for immersive sim at all.
>Some descriptor with RPG tacked onto it for sure
Thief isn't an RPG. Neither is System Shocj.
HR was kino
MD was garbage
what changed
worse story? worse missions? what?
Gameplay and story
and soul
-One third shorter than HR
-Underwhelming story. It ends right where it starts to pick up.
-The leitmotif of "Mechanical Apartheid" is very weak and on-the-nose. Like HR it focused too much on only one subject matter (and even that not very well). Deus Ex is speculative fiction, its themes doesn't only resort to Cyborgs and "le evolushon of mankind, blah"
-Only 1 main hub, Prague. Compared to other Deus Ex'es hardly a globetrotting adventure
Oops, meant for
hopefully not, the new ones are cinematic shit, maybe if some fresh blood makes a game similar to Deus Ex as another IP, because by MD I was very tired of Press A for Awesome garbage
Hub based first person exploration with lots of interactivity with the environments.
HR was garbage as well, everything in HR is muh transhumanism, Deus Ex explores a lot of different topics and transhumanism is just one out of the many things the first game discusses.
I got this game for free (kinda) and I've still yet to play.
Shit sucks ass.
>leitmotif
user don't use words you don't understand, you look silly
unironically end your life my man
>HR was garbage
Take that back
>-One third shorter than HR
Borth are 25 hours
My mistake. Meant to say "main subject matter".
>HR was kino
A common misconception not supported by facts.
thanks for reminding me, I gotta buy HR and replay it with MD
>Main story only
yeah if you're a autistic journo or youtuber thats all you'd do.
Absolute lies.
I played through both once, and ended up spending 50 hours on MD, and only 25 on HR.
>MD improved on every aspect of HR except the story
>retards hate it
Proof that you fags don't actually play video games. It's just your means of social distinction.
"Immersive sim" is kind of a shit term to be honest.
>Thief isn't an RPG. Neither is System Shocj.
Fair enough
Stale bait
Sure. Took a while before prequel DX came after IW's failure. It's a great setting, the brand is generally well liked and has preestablished lore
the hub and artstyle and music of MD was pure kino
everything else sucked
don't really care. I wouldn't mind them being more creative and make something of their own instead of something from the past.
You faggots meme'd me into playing one of the worst games ever made. Deux Ex 1 is the only great one, even though HR is still fun from time to time.
I only played HR and that was like 10 years ago.. I don't think I'm interested.
>Dishonored
SHIT taste
Like already said, the story was cut short. HR had a beginning, middle and end. It ended with a world shattering event, jeopardizing the future of augmented people as a whole. In MD you merely stop an eastern european aug terrorist from killing an entrepreneur and a few people, that's it. Nothing of importance happened.
Warren Spector didn't intend for "immersive sim" to be a genre descriptor. He came up with the term to describe the simulationist aspects of Deus Ex's game design. He also called it an RPG and an FPS.
>except the story
The story was a great build up. Honestly if they'd made it double the length i'd doubt they'd be able to sell it at 60 dollaroos and make a profit. It would literally be one of the most ambitious games ever made. Better 2 fully detailed games than one with the first half 10/10 and the rest rushed and out of budget.
At least All the villain set up in MD were dealt with in the end.
It was more Dense and detailed than HR. But with the sacrifice of them having to deliver one act at a time for having such detail at each step of the game.
So I wouldn't say it was worse, but who can tell when we didn't even get the whole package, they obviously had confidence in the brand which backfired and now we're fucked.
I don't want one unless it's another fucking soft reboot with a new writer at this point.
HR's story was okay, but the narrative and the themes were really uninteresting.
MD's story was just fucking boring.
I've had enough of Jensen.
There's been one DE game per gen (save for the PS2 era, which had both the original and IW, maybe three if you add The Conspiracy) and all signs are pointing to Edios' Avengers game being built for the ninth gen. it's probably going to be a 2023 release.
To this day i will never understand the hatred towards IW. I loved DX, and bought IW the day it came out and have no regrets.
Only like a decade later when HR came along and i saw everyone whining over IW did i notice the flaws, but it still didn't "destroy" my opinion of IW
Who the fuck thought playing in some shitty balkan town was a good idea? Nobody gives a fuck about that region besides balks who apparently hate each other with a passion and goes to war every half century.
Immersive sim
I hated the setting of Prague, I wish it was the in the us or china or somewhere more bustling.
Although I liked MD and hope for more Deus Ex games.
I sure hope so my dude. MD wasn't perfect, I liked HR more but still, them's some fine ass games, both of them.
SE would be a fucking idiot to actually shelves the series. And why would that be? Because the DE fanbase wasn't as gullible as they predicted and didn't fall for their preorder schemes and shitty overpriced DLC?
Only if Eidos Montreal somehow gets a new publisher. Square Enix has gone full retard. They bought a truckload of Western studios, funded their games, but set absurd sales goals so even though games like Tomb Raider and Deus Ex made profit, they DIDN'T MAKE ENOUGH. Then Square meddled with the developing process, mandated shit like microtransactions or tight deadlines. Practically through every Square Enix published Western game there's been a sharp decline in quality because of this. Word got around, sales reflected that. Square being Square, they put the blame on the studios entirely. They decided publishing Western games wasn't profitable anymore so they axed a couple of studios. Some of them bailed and found another publisher, like IO Interactive. All while pumping a neverending stream of money into their homemade turds, namely FFXIV, FFXV and KH3. Somewhere in the middle of this, Square decided to cut Deus Ex sequels and forced the devs to work on a fucking Marvel game.
I will never stop being mad at Squenix, and thankfully it looks like they're struggling.
