If you are a real storyfag, you need to play the first two. If you are a casual or a tastelet, just play the third. The Witcher 1 is pure kino once you get used to the jank, The Witcher 2 is also kino as fuck and it's only like 25 hours long anyway.

Not really. You might feel slightly lost at the beginning, but it's pretty easy to catch up and understand what's up. TW3 was my first game in the series, so that was my experience.

To be able to avoid burn out requires to learn to not give a fuck about everything. That's probably why BotW felt so good for many open world gamers. Not getting pushed anywhere, but pulled, is exactly what they needed.

This game is littered with loot bags. You find shitton of swords and armor. Saddest thing, you find a unique, legendary sword that's dope as fuck, but by the time you meet the requirements to equip it, random drops start getting better.

you mostly sell loot and gear you find in 3 as the witcher armor-sets are clearly superior. so exploration is still just about exp and money and possible a neat story or quest. you have to do side-quests for witcher sets and they can also be upgraded so you can the set you prefer throughout your entire playthrough.

I don't think they pushed Yen (as obviously many found her insufferable), but Triss was definitely laying low during the entire game, and it's pretty understandable. She was friend with Yen but didn't care she basically disappeared after dying trying to save Geralt, and worse than that fucked Geralt everytime she could like an horny rabbit while keeping him in the dark about his past and everything he lost (Ciri and Yen being the most important part). Then in TW3 Yen comes back, Ciri as well, and she honestly looks like a piece of shit who did nothing for the people she pretended to care for.

I think that Yennefer is very dignified in the way she handled the situation, yes, she is very angry and hurt, but teams up with Triss anyway to fight the Wild Hunt, and doesn't even make her feel bad by saying anything to her. That's when i realized Yennefer is the only viable choice, she is emotionally mature and unlike what every butthurt hater says, won't stay angry at Geralt forever.

As someone who beat it multiple times it’s a flawed game. The story doesn’t hold up to the first and second games, while the gameplay is improved from the second game(mostly, alchemy was better in the second) it’s still not great, only two love interest kind of sucks, the graphics got dated quickly and honestly it looks worse than two, etc.

It’s not some miracle game and honest The Witcher 2 was better because it had two separate story routes and way more replayability. Hearts of stone is kino though

The only thing I really hold against it is the gameplay being merely serviceable. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly good. Combat became a chore after the 50% mark. Great game beyond that though, with tons of memorable characters.

Banter is something that should go both ways in a relationship. The main story is the worst in the series. The original game was tacky as fuck, but at least it was compelling. The quest design also sucks. It is cool that each quest has a bit of dialogue and story behind it, but that does not make up for the "follow the mark" type of gameplay. Some side quests really stand out, but most are really boring.
Also, the game was harmed by the open world fever. The chapter structure worked well in the previous games, I don't know what an open world is supposed to do in a game like this. It isn't immersive experience like the Elder Scrolls game, it is more story-focused. Who the hell likes raiding bandit camps and hunting for chests?

I hadn't read the books or played any of the games when I played Witcher 3.

It does a great job of character interactions and personality. So even though I didn't know the past of Geralt and Yen, by playing for a short while I got an insight of their relationship and personality and I didn't need the past context. Just to name one example.

It also does well to establish that Geralt is a worldly weirdo with a bunch of weird friends who he has pasts with, which you don't really need to know. Each relationship is clearly shown, all little details included.

You know Dandelion is a bumbling haughty fool who annoys Geralt, but is incredibly close despite this.

You know Zoltan is a simple man with a good heart, not too disimilar to Geralt, forming that friendship

They're are people (I'm one of them) that never got used to wasd control, everything about is just so wrong. As a cursor user I always bind actions onto the 6 keys above cursors and the number pad, this way everything is instantly to hand (to pun intended). Witcher 3 will unbind a key that you try to assign more than one function too, even if that key is ONLY used under certain conditions, such as during combat. the way I got around it was with ctrl and shift modifiers, but I had to use AHK to do it.

Console ports are very often lazy in their control schemes, SFV was an absolutely god awful example, you had to use wasd and the keys around the b button the the 6 attacks, granted they eventually fixed it but at first you couldn't define your own keys. Cursor key users are a forgotten people in games. And the patriarchy is to blame

I haven't met a single person in real life who has played both Breath of the Wild and Witcher 3. I'm biased in that manner as well and I assert that Breath of the Wild isn't worth my time. That being said, I find it impossible to imagine how a person who has only played Breath of the Wild can assert the same.

I've also met people who played Fallout and Skyrim to death who refuse to pick up Witcher 3. And those I did play for a while.

I played the game on the highest difficutly. Just like most lazy devs all they do is up the damage and hp of monsters, and with already boring gameplay it's not worth it.

more damage done, more hp, improved enemy AI. so you arent just rolling your face over your keyboard or game pad and winning fights.

i had to use quen a lot and fight smart to win, much more satisfying that light attacking everything 1/2 times and winning.
