Replaying 1, I never thought about how they took out farming plots inside dungeons. It's a neat concept but it's annoying to only have 100 stamina. Also nothing stops you from unlocking the boss room, then leaving and coming back the next day, making camping pointless. Though compared to 4 I prefer it to having seasonal fields because they're protected from typhoons.
Despite how weak the farming was, I think Oceans did fields best by separating them on islands and actually making it take days to go from one to another. It's better than crossing a screen and entering a different climate.

No. RF4 is the most customizable, although it sucks because furniture doesn't snap to a grid. RF3 puts important things like the kitchen and crafting stations in fixed places, but lets you decorate with things like tables and stuffed animals the same way RF4 does. The others don't have house customization.

Unpopular opinion but I hope RF5 is 3D. People complain about the console releases having wonky design issues, but they were ultimately spin-offs, and the original Rune Factories had their own issues as well. The devs have shown they know how to refine things with each successive release, so a new RF in 3D could combine the best aspects of the console and handheld RFs.

People only complain about Oceans. Frontier was great

Oceans feels god tier to run around in. Open world RF5 with improved Oceans control and 3's pacing/characters would be amazing.

I've been in most of these threads and literally nobody has ever said that. Farming in Frontier is the same as it is in the top down games and there's plenty of 3D Harvest Moon games, why would anyone think being fully 3D would effect the farming in any way?

The 3D HMs do farming perfectly fine. It's a little dumbed-down, but it still controls the same. Just include a "snap-to-grid" button and you're golden.

It would definitely affect the speed. When you have a grid system and item stacking, it tends to be really efficient. For 5 I'd like to see something different, especially if it's 3D.

No "dating" mechanic that impedes your ability to court every candidate before marriage.
Rival pairs with their own rival events and kids.
More story/character events specifically for post-marriage.
I hate it when the character events and development come to a screeching halt the moment you get married in any RF or Bokumono game.

Ideally, events would be given priorities depending on FP so you can game the system a little but you're not forced to SR.

One of my favorite things about these games is seeing the different characters forming cliques and hanging out with each other, like Sofia, Raven and Karina in RF3. Or how all the girls in town will have dinner together in the evening in RF4. It really goes a long way into making these towns feel alive.

The boys will also dine together in RF4. I agree that the interpersonal relationships between NPCs are really valuable to making the town feel "alive". I wish every game with a major social aspect would make a stronger effort in that regard. Persona 5 is a good example of how lame it is when a large cast revolves almost entirely around the MC.

3 did a better job of that than 4 since they even have unique dialogue for when they get together.

I hope 5's story places more emphasis on the town as a thriving community rather than as a backdrop for whatever Sechs conflict will be cooked up this time around. 4 had some great dynamics but could be pretty tangential to the overall plot at times. If you didn't seek them out you could've completely missed most the stuff.

All this is what made Story of Seasons 2 really disappointing for me, like you have all this detail for the people in the town and how they all have unique relationships yet in SoS they just set about doing their fixed schedules, I think the only characters that actually interact with each other outside of events are Komari and Kasumi

All they need to do is add some sort of player trigger for rival marriages then. Make it so the rivals don't court or marry until after the player is married.
That said, I don't think there's any problem with rivals being able to marry before the player, without player approval. If you drag your ass, you lose your girl. Seems like a normal thing for a life sim.
