This game fucking sucks. Are any of the "New" games worth my time or are they all just as shit?

Play them all. One of them's good. I wont tell you which.
That was by far the best and most interesting one so if you don't like it you'll abhor all the others.
Just play NSMB and then figure out which of the ones between Wii and U you prefer, because once you've played any of the ones after the original, you've played all of the ones after the original.
NSMBU was still pretty boring as far as aesthetics go, but the levels were pretty good and multiplayer was a fun clusterfuck. The Switch version has the Luigi U expansion too, and some of those levels can be a real motherfucker to beat if you're looking for a challenge.
Only the console entries are worth playing.
I can't understand how the fuck people can say this when Wii improves on DS in every single possible way.
Those games are literally soulless
Because of Shigeru Miyamoto's self-serving plan to completely disrespect the hard work of the Super Mario Bros. 3 developers for making a beloved classic game that he personally didn't like by taking away the ONE thing that made the Koopalings remotely interesting saturating them until we become numb to his passive-aggressive bullshit. That's why. But other than that little detail, yeah.
All of new Mario 2d games are more or less the same with slight twists and changes. I've only played the DS and Wii U versions, and I just think they are alright games. Good, but nothing noteworthy.
Why the fuck do all of these games look and play exactly the same and why are there so many of them?
only the switch port is good
No its pure shit and literally the same game as the wii u version. Better get Mario odyssey.
They look and play the exact same because it's easy and cheap to do and makes a good profit for nintendo. At least the games have some standard of quality, unlike other franchises (ex: Sonic)
>the ONE thing
Uh... What one thing? I don't remember.
Are they fun to coop?
I wish I had friends to play with
>Implying a fantastic 2D Sonic platformer as good as if not better than the originals didn't just come out.
Must be referring to the Bowser's kids -> Bowser's minions retcon, although that technically didn't start with Wii. It happened closer around 2 or U.
Sonic Mania is a phenomenal game, and I personally had more fun with that than any 2D Mario game. That being said, look at the lineup of shitty games before and after Mania. Lost World, Boom, and Forces. While Sonic has the occasional great game, his entire franchise is a mixed bag.
Portable, brand New 2D mario since the SNES, interesting Aesthetics, dared to do its own thing rather than ride on the success of 3 or world. Wii just expanded what this one did.
They're splitting the franchise into two: one for the continuation of Modern Sonic, and the other for the return of Classic Sonic; Sonic Mania is considered in its own branching universe where Sonic 4, Sonic Adventure etc. didn't happen due to a Zelda-esque post-Generations split.
Sonic has a timeline?
I heard of the franchise splitting, but I thought that Mania and Forces was connected?
Yes. It usually goes in release order, with some mild shuffling (Shadow the Hedgehog takes place between Sonic Heroes and Sonic Battle, etc.)
The connection is that Classic Sonic shows up in Forces directly after Mania, but by that point they are a split timeline, so despite Classic Sonic being Modern Sonic's younger self in Generations, the same Classic Sonic is now an dimensional counterpart of Modern Sonic.
If you think that's confusing, people have made theories about how Sonic 06 is a self-contained timeline to explain the inconsistencies. Even though it's represented in Generations. And characters legit comment on it there like nothing got erased. Possibly because Time Eater is a surviving remnant of Solaris. Don't think about it too much, it's only a game.
Luigi U is the best even though its not nearly as hard as people say it is
Wait, classic Sonic is a Younger Sonic? I always thought they were different Sonics.
How is it any different from the heavily praised DK returns and Tropical Freeze though? The first game was a different experience, the sequels, like most game sequels, were very similar with small changes.
NSMBU changed a lot except the story and bosses. The meme that these games are bad because they don't chane enough is absurd because everyone here bitches either way
Sonic Mania is a pixelshit rehash of classic sonic, the only difference between that and 4 are graphics and the cool factor of it being made by a fan.
Overrated as shit
U wot m8?
Long story short, the events of Sonic Generations split the timeline, so Classic Sonic is both Modern Sonic's younger self AND an alternate version of him. The chronology was relatively unified up until presumably the last classic game. Sonic Mania is the first game that takes place in the new classic-only dimension, which shares history with the classic era but not modern era (Dreamcast and up). Hope that's helpful.
it really does. i bought it when it came out because i still had nostalgia for super mario bros. what a piece of shit game
I'm playing it right now. It's not spectacular or anything but its decent
>cool factor
You mean the traitor factor of being soulless sellout shit
If you want a better 2D platformer experience then just play the last 2 Donkey Kong Country games
i played this one till the end, but didnt bother going for side content/secrets.
there's just too many poorly made scenarios, and even has some of the typical cheap game design moments, like leaps of faith (which lead to a death) and other cheap death BS>
its no where near as bad as Super Princess Peach in cheap deaths, but i cant help but find little fun in the game.
(not to say it has none)
I did get the Wii one, and will eventually try it.
Even if games revisit mechanics/levels aesthetics, what matters to me, is how the course flows, how clunky it is, and if designs are poorly implemented.
I think the 3d world/land games are clunky, but have enough variety, and "easy" difficulty, the clunkiness is negated. (Lacks cheap deaths)
Mario3, and Mario world imo have some of the best of all categories (more so leaning towards mario world)
Galaxy2 has some nice mechanics, but then u get to motion control levels, and the clunkiness, and cheapness ruined the game for me. (never tried galaxy 1)
Mario64 is a bit harder for me to label, for comparison sake.
Sunshine feels like a "lesser" Mario64, with more punishing clunkiness and cheap deaths.
I doubt every one of the "new" series is bad, but I do strongly suggest people avoid it, unless they lack any better alternatives, or like just about anything skinned mario. (If you get it for free, then there's nothing wrong with playing it, since its not garbage. just subpar.)
>Bowser Jr. really was the eighth child.
>Bowser Jr. was the favorite of the bunch and promoted as heir due to looking like Baby Bowser.
>The Koopalings didn't like that and got sick of their father's shit, even betraying him by working for Bowletta in Mario & Luigi.
>Years later, the estranged children make up with their father and agree to go along with one last scheme to capture Princess Peach.
>Bowser was a terrible father. Because he's a bad guy. Which makes sense.
Well it's a more interesting scenario than the current alternative. They even changed the Koopalings in Bowser's Minions so they're no longer working for Bowletta. I wonder why they retconned it well after New Super Mario Bros. Wii? The minions version is boring.
