Just finished playing through "Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru" (The Frog for Whom the Bell Tolls) and I have to say it was a masterpiece. I absolutely love the gameboy, and my childhood nights before bed were filled with Links Awakening. It's probably one of the games I spent the most time on as a kid due to the the accessibility.

Anyone else like this game? There are fan translations, but the game was only released in Japan. I really hate how it's not seen a reboot.

No one? Well, I highly recommend it to anyone who has access to roms, or has a gameboy and can buy a translated cart online. It is so damn good. Nintendo RnD team 1 made this game before making Links Awakening. It's the same engine. It's so damn good, and the story is really cute :D

haven't heard of it but I'm liking stuff with great story more and more over anything else recently. I'll give it a go if there are good translations.

There is a really good translation out there that's found pretty much all of the rom sites. It has the great humor you expect from those early nintendo games, but not really censored so you drink wine to heal yourself. lol. It has an amazing soundtrack that plays well with the gameplay. It's basically an amazing peace of art.

I really wished Nintendo had just released it outside of Japan. It would have done well. Swords and princes. At that time in my life after playing Link to the Past, those were the games I wanted to play the most.

At least Richard will be in the Link's Awakening reboot again, so more people would be aware of it. I hope that this could also lead to a remake since they shared the same engine on GameBoy.

And the gameplay, overworld, puzzles were all so nicely laid out. I had a some issues with a block puzzle, but other then that they weren't too difficult. I wish I had more art from the series to post. :(

No confirmation.
They could easily remove him

It would be cool. Japan really missed out not marketing to the west with this game (and some others).

I can't wait to see Richard in Links Awakening! That game is going to be so cool!

> Removing a character that plays a big role in the game

Kanelet Castle added bells as the banner as a refence to the game, Richard is not going anywhere.

Oh man, never expect to see a thread about this game

Absolutely agree with you OP, loved every moment of this one. Might grab a Gameboy flashcart to play it on actual hardware sometime

That's terrifying to think of, but you're right. They could.

I pretty much lost my shit during the ending. I'm tearing up right now thinking about it. It's such a sweet ending to such a perfect game.

Here is some more art OP, it may be small since it's from the manual.

Jam is so damn cool

It's a very cute game yes, very charming. I stopped caring towards the end though.
There's another Zelda related game called marvelous for the snes, same engine as lttp. Haven't played it but I think there's also a fan translation.

Great game, I'm gonna replay it again when the Color hack is done

It's one of my favorites.

I had a tough time through the Jungle, but once I got past it I really enjoyed the rest of the game. But going back to that jungle monster over and over again cause I wasn't stong enough was rough.

Marvelous looks cool though! I'll have to check it out some more.

I love that animation. They animated Prince Richards speech is so amazing. And just how the music picks up when he explains why he conceded the dual. Just so beautiful. I want to see more shit for this game! I want more dammit! It's so good.
